International GWJ Day - Oct 15 - San Francisco Chapter

Oh - we WILL be doing something. The question is what and where. But I guarantee we will be getting together for food, drinks, and probably games. And listening to the podcast.

I blame moggy!

(well he's a convenient scape goat because he wont be there!)

I am still in for whatever as well. And if we get a place with no booze, I'm not a big drinker so no biggie for me.

I am so in.

s'kay, I always get blamed in the end

I'm actually pretty bummed about missing the event, but my track weekend has been on the calendar for 5 months. The supercharger is being installed this week, so check rides at the next event!

This has been on the calendar for 6 months! No excuse!

Do you have a good headcount yet? It might be better to just find a restaurant or a game store that's cool with X number of people loitering, eating and drinking. Hotels generally will trade room nights for free space but insist on you ordering food through them (which is ridiculously expensive).

Find a restaurant for dinner, get a party room and stay as long as you can. It's a plus if the place serves drinks. Then move the party to your friendly local game store. They might just be happy to have that many potential customers and may allow you to bring food.

Other than that, there's the possibility of finding a party center as well but that could also get pricey. The upside of that is that those places expect you to bring your own food.

Don't listen to him! He's the enemy! He just wants us to be sad and crying while we are trying to play Catan at Chuck-e Cheese...bastard!

On a more serious note, I vote for a restaurant as an alternative. The board game group out here frequently rents out the Crepeville on Tuesday nights, but you may want to call ahead.

Actually while typing this I just realized that most Round Table restaurants have seperate rooms that are frequently available for parties. You might want to call around for that.

Damn bird....

We have a few things in the works (that won't cost much, if at all) and I'll let folks know as soon as we nail it down. But we WILL do something.

Given the responses, we're gonna have quite a number fewer than last year, but that's fine too.

I can assure you that I take virtually no joy in seeing Hedge scramble for a last minute venue. Nope. Virtually none.

If by scramble you mean go on vacation and not worry about it, then yeah. I am scrambling. Like a mofo.

Hey everyone - I talked to Hedge and made arrangements with the Hacker Dojo in Mountain View. They've officially okayed the request and event info is now posted on their website. So, we have plenty of space and a set venue. I'll be there early to set up the room and put up some signs. Bring games, refreshments, friends and computers if you like, wifi is available.

For directions and special parking instructions:
http://wiki.hackerdojo.com/w/page/25...
If you are driving, please do pay attention to the parking instructions, Dojo only has the spots bordering the lot. Should still be plenty of room.

Questions? Shout it from the rooftops (and into this forum).

Thanks a million Mad!

What sort of beverages/snacks are in play? I am available to help set up. I probably won't bring all of my games down, so I might create a form for people to ask for specific ones.

I just wanted to stick my head in to say I'm a big "maybe". With our new baby, I just haven't been committing to any plans of any kind until we're really settled in and back on track. Hopefully, I'll be able to get away and I'll see you all next weekend!

Hey! I intend to attend, but I'll be on a boat that weekend and thus almost certainly late.

Any and all drinks and snacks people want to bring. I'll get some basic snacks and supplies and will bring my cucumber vodka as well. People are welcome to bring their own treats or just come and enjoy.

I'm booked for a bunch of different things on the 15th but I'm going to try and make it to this late afternoon or evening.

You say you'll be there a bit early, but if we wanted to be there on time, when would that be, generally?

The calendar booking says 1pm:

http://events.hackerdojo.com/event/1110004-international-gwj-day

That's what I am basing everything off of.

Also I would like to know if I should bring a screen and projector?

I'll be there for sure.

I am moving to the bay area in the next month and have to head over to find a place to live. Might try to come down that weekend and join you guys (since my city doesn't have anything planned).

I'mma be there! Will bring some snacks, some drinks and some board games! Are we planning on having video game setups? I'd love to play a little fighting games if anyone is interesting. I promise I still suck at Street Fighter.

So this is BYOE? (bring your own everything)

Booze, food, games? Does the place allow food, booze or even unleaded drinks?

Welcome!! When you're settled let us know and we'll have a "hello and welcome party"!

I will come. Where is it going to be again?

What do you need me to bring?

Hookers and blow,

Obviously!

Ok. Done. A shipment just arrived from Columbia, so perfect timing. Good price at just $25 per gram!

Stupid work might make me late. I'm mapping what the new Caldecott tunnel mining exposes. Hopefully, I'll be done by noon, absolute worst case scenario is 6pm but that probably won't happen. See everyone soon!

Ok, I am confirming that I will be in the bay area this weekend (Actually, I am moving to Mountain View so I should be close to the event) but since I am really up there looking for a place, I will probably be showing up later then 1pm.

That's an expensive hooker!
