The first two I understand, but the third? You must see it through, Little Mac — Don't give up!
Do you have any idea how many times I've played that game? I can make it to Super Macho Man in my sleep. I have the world worst mental block when it comes to Tyson (Dream) and Macho Man keeps messing with my head too. It's drove me nuts for years, and I even have played it a bunch on the Wii VC.
Yet I stil love the game, moreso than any other game that I cannot defeat.
Forgive me, for I have sinned, I bought the THQ Greatest Hits Bundle on Steam today. I think this is the third time I've bought Dawn of War II.
Oh, I don't know about clearing the entire pile, but maybe next year? Hmmm.
Do it.
Oh, the JRPG thread is not helping me in this thread -- it's given me such a hankering for some Megami Tensei. Not only am I probably going to play the Personas again once I get them back, I just picked up Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2 on ebay for a grand total of $44. And I'm watching Nocturne.
Did you play Devil Survivor yet? It's pretty rad, too.
I'm playing New Vegas right now and it's a good time. Plus, you already own it!
No, nor either of the Devil Summoners (though I hear they aren't quite as good). Plus I still have Suikoden 3, Drakengard, and KH re: CoM from the last Gamefly sale.
I think I'm going to aim for 90% at TA, then reward myself with a total binge of PS2 JRPG goodness. It'll be like eating two bags of Oreos right after finishing a 90-day run of P90X. I've been seriously jonesing for some JRPG goodness, and all the action/adventure games I've been hammering away at on the 360 don't slake that thirst.
EDIT:...and apparently I just want to get my ass beat with crazy-hard games. Just found this ranking of the top ten hardest bonus bosses in RPGs, and SMT games hold 3 of the top four spots. And many are arguing that Satan from DDS2 should be #3 on that list instead of the band from FFX.

Ditto. All the talk about the awesome sounding Persona series has me simultaneously annoyed (because I want to play them) and glad (because the pile is too big already) that I passed my PS2 along to Clocky. Although, I know at some point I will break down and grab Resonance of Fate, or Tales of Vesperia.

Those games should not even be in the same genre, they are so different.
I had Elder Scrolls fatigue earlier this year with playing Oblivion to completion. I still have Shivering Isles to play through, and I also Have Fallout 3, and New Vegas on my pile. Skyrim, although lovely, may be more of the same, but with updated graphics/environments.
In the Skyrim thread, that kind of talk is the equivalent of lathering up in meat juice and going to a swim with Bruce from Jaws.

Welcome to the fine world of defining genre by region and art style. It makes me want to insist that Mass Effect and Halo Wars are in the same genre.

Fair enough. I don't know much about them other than that they are both "JRPGs" and both look sweet.
Nice.

I know
That catch all is currently sitting at 308 'unread' posts. I know if I go in there again, it will make the decision to delay it's purchase even harder.
EDIT

It is done. Sorry Skyrim, I know you will be awesome, but you will sit in the 2012 list 'at the right price' list for next year.
I made the grievous error of expressing some fatigue with the Bethesda Game, and was promptly shredded. That said, participation there has implanted the suggestion to purchase the game on release day, so I suppose it's fair to say that they won.
Or that they beat me.
You made the right choice. I've seen nothing yet from Skyrim that leads me to believe Bethesda has mended their wayward tendencies and returned to good RPG-making.
As I've been telling friends about not just Skyrim but Fallout and Dead Island and a bunch of other stuff... even if a game is EXCELLENT, well, I've got a dozen excellent games in shrinkwrap sitting on a shelf at home already. And if the game is merely REALLY GOOD, I have another 80 or 90 of those already on the pile.

If you have unplayed games in cellophane, you might have a backlog.
jeff-foxworthy off
The moment you have an un-played game in cellophane for more than 6 months, you have a problem.
I must admit, I have at least 1 problem, and it's name is FF13. Bought it some time ago on sale for $20, and I even have the guide to it, too!

Sell the game and the guide. Save yourself the pain.
If it's still in shrinkwrap after that long, are you really going to get to it?

Heh, that's funny. Just earlier this week I was regretting getting rid of that game on Goozex and thinking I'd really like to play it again and have it on the shelf. Maybe we can talk....

How's that different than any other game I've bought because of the price and or interest that didn't make it to the console and fell to the wayside?

Feel free to PM - I really would like to play it sometime, just no idea if/when that will happen.

Good question. Why do you have those games, again?

Are you sure you're in the right thread? Darksiders isn't on my list...
I don't understand the still wrapped game thing. I play every game I get for at least a half hour to an hour with in a day or two of getting it in my hands. Even a goozex game gets a test spin immediately. Maybe the kid will change this, but I doubt it. I feel like I tell myself "If I don't want to play it right now, I'm not buying it."
$20 for a then $60 game was a steal. I wanted to play it (still do), but wasn't passing up the price.
I do have a problem, I've come to realize. I will buy things because they are on sale, or limited edition; but I'm in the middle of something else, so I never bother taking off the cellophane. That's why I'm trying to get rid of some of these games and stop buying so many new ones, even if they are on sale or whatever! ClockworkHouse, you are right: if I haven't played it 6 months after purchase, chances are pretty low that I ever will.
I will buy things because they are on sale, or limited edition; but I'm in the middle of something else, so I never bother taking off the cellophane.
That's my big problem. I'll buy something because it's on sale, and I've been interested in it. But when I get it, I'm in the middle of something else, so I leave it unwrapped. When I finish what I was playing, either something else has caught my eye, or I'm not really in the mood for the game that I bought and didn't unwrap.
I've slowly learned, thanks in large part to this thread, that I really don't need to buy those games. I've watched so many of the games I bought at Such a Low Price! fall below that price before I had even gotten them out of the shrinkwrap. It's funny to think you got a great deal on something only to find out that, if you'd have waited until you were actually ready to play it, you'd have paid less.
The only games that still get me are ones that I think are rare or are going to be rare. To be fair, though, that paid off for me with Devil Survivor Overclocked, which is now $70 new or $50 used. Although, also to be fair, I'm actually playing that one.
