"Orcs Must Die!" Catch-All

Does anyone know if the pre-order armour and hammer do anything special? Or are they just reskins of the existing stuff.

They make you look awesome, that's all.

I'm stuck on "lunchbreak." Failed 5 times so far. Each attempt I get a little bit closer. Just need to strategize a little more. Loving it otherwise.

EDIT: LOVE LOVE LOVE THE MUSIC.

I got the demo, but I can't play it because I can't select "New Profile". My mouse doesn't work, and pressing A on the controller does nothing. The mouse is going crazy all over the screen--never seen anything like it.

TB mentioned having problems with mouse acceleration in his video and having to fiddle with his mouse settings in windows, but not sure if that's the same issue.

Giantbomb's Quick Look pretty much sold me on it. If I can find the time (and the pocket cash) between now and Skyrim, I'll probably grab it.

I don't understand why the menus force you to use the mouse acceleration function. It's a function I hate and have never willingly used in any game.

On a positive note, I really liked the demo and can't wait for the game to unlock in a couple days.

Checked out the demo this weekend - a pass for me. It's just another tower defense game, albeit in 3D, and I find the genre maddeningly boring.

This game is fricken awesome. It's lots of fun and has just the right amount of unlockable stuff. Almost to the last level now, though I had to drop to "apprentice" difficulty in order to get by a couple of them. Having since gained a couple of key traps/guardians, I'm thinking I could go back and 5-skull some of the ones that were giving me fits.

Before the monsters started eagerly knocking down barricades, my favorite tactic was to use them to create a single column lined with wall traps with archers in the protected, barricaded area. Then line the whole route with tar, sit back, and watch the fully automated defense system go to work.

Yeah, this game gets hard. I have about 5 levels left and I'm failing a lot. I think to get the best scores you have to get good with head shots. I've never tried using the sword, is it worth trying?

I'd like to know if I'm missing much with the sword (blade staff ) too. I used its secondary to blow orcs away until I got the wind belt and since then I've completely dropped it from use.

Seems more like trap-defence to me, something akin to the Dungeon Keeper trap system blown out to full size. I guess it pushes similar buttons however.

The giant bomb quicklook sold me on this. Just preordered

The game has released a day early on Steam. Go get it!

Awesome! Installing right now!

Damn it! Paypal money isn't real money... right?

Sweeet... I finally was able to try out the demo (after a few times restarting the game, the mouse just started working. Weird.) After trying the demo this game instantly shot to the top of my list.

I just hope the full game isn't TOO hard!

The demo was nicer to my system. Not sure why, but I cannot go for the max detail. Weird, it's a laptop that I am using. But the specs aren't that old yet
Still good fun though. You have to select your shiny armor if you pre-ordered the game.

There is an easy mode. This game is hard though. I'm in the last third with like six levels to go and it's kicking my ass. The good thing about it though is I rarely get frustrated. It's so much fun and there a good amount a variety that I'm more eager to want to retry with a new strategy than give up in frustration. I'm glad more people here are picking it up so we can discuss strategies. This seems to the type of game were the goals can be accomplished in many ways, so hearing about how others did things would be great.

Tower defense/action is the emerging genre of the last year and a half, don't you think?

Rock of Ages and Toy Soldiers aside, what else is there? I ask because I'll BLOODY PLAY THEM ALL.

There is also Sanctum and Dungeon Defenders.

and Monday Night Combat, I'd argue.

How could I forget MNC?! Me = FAIL.

Loved that game for the couple weeks I played it. Might have to give their F2P MMO version a try when it releases.

I hadn't heard of Dungeon Defenders, and Sanctum/MNC slipped my mind! I tried playing MNC again for the first time in ages at the weekend. Turns out I'm still terrible and die within 10 seconds every time I walk out of the base.

edit: I should also definitely mention Lock's Quest on DS. It's probably less of a departure from "traditional" tower defence as we're discussing in here, but it's still great. As everything's kicking off, the character you control can join in in beating up the monsters, as well as run around repairing and rebuilding. It's always a delicate balance and feels like you just barely win a fight every time.

Rock on! I really dug that game. The only reason I stopped playing was the fights were getting pretty hard and new mechanics stopped being introduced. Definitely have to finish that one day.

It's not going to be an MMO, it'll be a free to play version of Monday Night Combat with more DOTA/MOBA elements.

I just past Act 1. The game continues to get more difficult but what I'm noticing, and loving, is that when I manage to stumble upon the "correct" solution to a level, it becomes progressively easier to handle. It's never obnoxiously difficult; it forces me to play smart, and I like that. I feel like I've already gotten my $15 back.

and the music STILL rocks.

Picked this up on a whim and am enjoying it so far. It is indeed challenging after the first few levels. I've yet to fail a level but I have restarted several of them as I let multiple orcs through the rift and only got a couple of skulls for reward. Each time I thought hard about my strategy and have always been able to come up with a better setup to herd and kill orcs faster than the time before. This is as much a thinking mans game as it is an action shooter. I think I'm on the 7th or 8th level now.

How do I tell when I change from act 1 to act 2? I got a cutscene, was that is?

I'm having tons of fun with the game. I have barely 25% of the unlocks and I'm already finding some pretty deep strategy. Surviving a level isn't super difficult but getting a high score and eking out as much efficiency as possible requires a lot of planning.

Couple things I've discovered:

1. The Wind Belt, Crossbow and Bladestaff have an alternate attack. I didn't discover them until level 11. Makes me feel dumb... I won't spoil the effects though.
2. Archers shoot arrows that can get blocked by other archers and the player, try not to stand in front of em.

I'm enjoying this tremendously as a puzzle game. Very satisfying when approached that way. What's even better is that my son plays too, and we solve levels entirely differently.

Minor spoiler:

Spoiler:

I'm a big fan of blowing orcs back over the traps they've just struggled over. Very useful in thinning the ranks.
