Maybe it's more not paying attention to why you died. When I get killed, I tend to go back through things (Recount first, generally) and figure out what exactly killed me. Then I start doing research to figure out where it came from and what can be done about it.

I don't look at that stuff... I blame our healers. Keep me alive damn it. That fire feels good.

Don't ever change.

In the case of the Drakonids in BWD, you're getting facepunched by their cleave ...

That's one of the one's I'm thinking of. I can wait a beat. Those dragons that patrol the circle above Nef have the same attack. My only warning seems to be my health bar dropping from 100 to 0 like *snap* that. Stupid cleave *mutters*

The other one is the Ascendent Council. The fire/water phase is pretty easy - get hot, cool down; get wet, dry off. Got it. It's the air/earth phase that gets me. I'm either running through things I shouldn't (which I did last night) or not running through things I should (which I would have done had I not run though things I shouldn't have right off the bat). Those things are harder to find than a light well.

Anyway, it's all good. A lot of this is just doing it a few times till it works.

I had a lot of fun last night. I think we need to do more alt-new people runs.

Unfortunately, pencon messes up next week pretty badly since 6 of us will be there but if you guys are free Friday or Saturday nights, post in next week's thread. Assuming we have a decent connection, we'll only need a few people to run.

A semi-related question: I've got three of my four T11 pieces (chest, pants and gloves). That gives me a 2/4 Tier 11 set bonus.

By next week, I should have enough VPs to get my T12 chest piece. That still leaves me with the 2/4 Tier 11 bonus because I'll be swapping out the Tier 11 chest for the Tier 12 chest.

At some point (theoretically, at least) I'll have enough VP to buy a second piece of Tier 12 armor that could (assuming I buy pants or gloves) get me a 2/4 Tier 12 set bonus.

Is it worth giving up the Tier 11 bonus (+10 percent damage for Temp's Verdict) for the Tier 12 bonus (+15 percent damage on Crusader Strike as a 4-second fire DoT)? Or should I stick with the Tier 11 bonus and build around that?

Can I have both the Tier 11 bonus and the Tier 12 bonus active at the same time? (That's assuming the T11 hat or shoulders drop -- it's a longshot.)

Or should I just delete my toons and stick with something with fewer cleaves and less death, such as Farmville?

T12 stats basic stats are far greater than the T11 ones. You should get 2t12. Str is main stat for ret paly and you will see an increased dps by shear stats alone.

Thanks, everyone, for putting up with my general noobishness last night. While I've done plenty of raiding in the long distant past (40-man Onyxia, Molten Core, and BWL), this was a great refresher. I think I just need some time to get familiar with these instances -- including learning where the f*cking entrance is!

As far as my deaths last night go... I got instakilled twice in 2 separate bosses by Frost Lance (I think that's what it's called). I don't know what I did to provoke that, nor how to avoid it.

Also, this:

It is about seeing the fight and actually being a part of it's movement. That fight is an awareness fight that is challenging. I think it is more difficult than the end boss in that dungeon. Glad we have some folks willing to join us. Always hoping you have a good time along the way, as that's what we are all about.

This was probably the problem. The water boss tosses a debuff on you, called Waterlogged. Then he tosses an attack that will instagib you if you haven't removed the Waterlogged debuff by running through the fire trail left by the other boss. Note, through, don't stop in the fire. Leave that to the moonkins.

I died on that first attempt during phase 2 because I ran to get the grounding buff, turned around, ran right through the swirling winds (which overwrote the grounding buff) and didn't notice in time to replace the grounding buff. Bleh. Die and learn.

I doubt anyone got logs last night because I still have yet to set that up, but from the week before when you filled in for TK, Crusader Strike is coming in at 11-14% of your overall damage, whereas TV is closer to 8%. A large part of this is just because you use CS more - you need to use it to generate the Holy Power that you need to have to even use TV. That means, even barring the greater stats on the T12 gear (as Grinds pointed out), an increase in damage to your Crusader Strike is going to do a lot more to your DPS than an increase to your TV, because it's a higher portion of your damage anyway.

TL;DR: Switch.

Can I have both the Tier 11 bonus and the Tier 12 bonus active at the same time? (That's assuming the T11 hat or shoulders drop -- it's a longshot.)

Yes. Carg had both the 2-piece T11 (helm and gloves) and 2-piece T12 (legs and chest) Prot bonuses for quite some time. Bonuses from different sets do stack. In general you'll still want to upgrade out of them once you get pieces with better stats, but it gives you more options (e.g. I held off on buying the T12 gloves and spent VP on a few other upgrades first).

Thanks, Carg. Grinds, too. That helped a lot.

All of the end-game stuff is pretty new to me, and I'm still trying to get my head some of it.

Btw....just wanted to say sorry for not being able to attend raid yesterday....not that I'd have been able to anyhow with our internet issues. Youko and I spent the last two days looking for her a new car and I was really pissing off the car salesman for the better part of the day yesterday. I must have been having fun with it cuz the day just flew by....lol...and before I knew it I was hauling butt trying to get cars swapped out last night but eventually traded old and busted for new and pretty

And as an update for our internet....seems to be pretty smooth all day so far....hopefully it stays that way so I can raid at least a few times before going back to Africa....lol
