Forza 4: Catch-All

You will love the wheel if you can get it setup right. The mount on that thing sucks though, so you may want to get their big metal clamp or plan on hard-mounting it.

Well, I do have the wheel stand I ordered from them, currently with the MSWW mounted on it. I'm afraid I might have lost the extra nuts and bolts that came with it when I moved a year ago, bit I'm hoping I'll be able to find anything I might need at the local hardware store.

My GT2 came with the bolts. Maybe the CSR will be the same. If not, like you said, it would be easy to find at the hardware store. The dimensions are easy to get a hold of.

Got my pre-order bonus Mazda tonight via the F3 in-game mail!

Guess I should finish the Usagi Yojimbo design I've been working on to have it ready for import into Forza 4 on release day...

I thought the F4 demo was due for tomorrow, but it's out now. Go, go, go!

[Edit] Boooo. A comment on Major Nelson's announcement says that Kinect isn't implemented in the demo.

Booo. Forza's what convinced me to bite on the $100 off 360 S. Excited to try that out.

Damn, I was hoping to have a chance to get everything set up and tuned in for head tracking before the game's release next week.

I'm also reading that there might be a problem with the new simulation steering mode in the demo, at least when used with 900 degree wheels, which is also a bummer since I was hoping to have a chance to get used to that before the game's release as well (assuming Fanatec fulfills their pre-orders before next Tuesday).

Demo has Quick Race and Rivals. QR: '70 Cougar Eliminator, '11 WRX STi, '10 458 Italia. Rivals is the Zonda C.

That actually makes me nervous. By all means don't include the big new Kinect feature so people can see if it's revolutionary or buggy in the demo. This means it will, by definition, be buggy and useless.

That video was bloody awesome.

It was. It's amazing the impact Clarkson's voice has on the auto-loving me.

That is, by far, the most heart-swelling video game advertisement I've ever watched.

It makes me want to get into my crappy little 10 year-old Jetta and drive the ever-living sh*t out of it.

Well, as is often the case it sounds like the demo is based on a relatively old build of the game (hence the problem with sim steering and 900 degree wheels). I'd be willing to bet that the Kinect stuff wasn't fully baked in the older build so they figured it was best to exclude it. That said, I'm expecting it to be about the same as every other Kinect game; that is, it will work amazingly about 85% to 90% of the time, and be bullsh*t outside of that.

EDIT:

Also, they released this new ad today. I'll embed it, but you should really click through and watch it hi-res and widescreen.

Beautiful ad.

Microsoft can do some great ads for it's exclusives, can't they?

I played through the SP of Forza 3 and liked it just fine. But this year I've moved to a city that doesn't get BBC America, and there's a good chance I'm going to get Forza 4 at least partly to get my Top Gear fix.

I'm not sure how to feel about that.

Not going to suggest what link you might want to click, or what you might want to do after that, but you may find a new way to watch Top Gear UK through this prominent fan site:

Don't worry, you'll have other forms of entertainment.

It's Gainesville, FL. Plenty of entertaining things to watch here.

I dunno, that guy seemed kind of a psychotic dickhead.

Exactly.

As soon as Xbox Live gets their sh@t together, I will test this 900 degree issue with my Fanatec.

Well, folks with the preview copies of the retail version are saying that the problem being described in the demo doesn't exist in the full game, so I'm not too worried -- just bummed that I won't have a chance to start getting used to the sim steering before the game comes out.

So do the "long-travel" wheels give finer control? Meaning is 15º on my 270º lock-to-lock MS wheel more like ~50º of rotation on a 900º wheel?

I can't wait until the new Fanatecs are out. The center slop on my MS wheel is really annoying.

Aw crap. I just saw you can adapt the MS pedals for the Fanatec CSR. I was planning on holding out for the CSR-E and Clubsport v2 pedals but won't happen for at least a couple of months according the Fanatec. I'm on the verge of getting the CSR and the pedal adapter as something to hold me over.

[Edit] Scratch the adapter, just saw they have $30 pedals that work with the CSR.

Not to be a snob, but those are horrible pedals. You can modify with a heavy spring though. I put the specs for the spring somewhere in the Forza 3 thread.

Yeah, that is just silly then.

No argument, but it's either use them with the MS wheel as I do now or get the temp upgrade and use them with the CSR. The cheap Fanatec pedals are only a few dollars more though so I'd probably go that route.

Is there a new version of the ClubSport pedals coming?

I've been doing a lot of reading about it (since I just put together an order myself), and the general consensus seems to be that the cheap pedals really aren't worth buying -- biting the bullet and buying one of the more expensive sets seems to be the way to go.

I ended up ordering the new CSR Elites -- as tempting as the force feedback in the CSPs were, I decided to save the $50. Also, the promise of "improved ergonomics" in the CSR-E pedals sounded appealing. As with all the gear I ordered, I realize I'm taking a bit of a gamble buying brand new products, but at some point I had consider my desired budget for the extravagance of a new setup.

EDIT: the base (plastic) Fanatec pedals are crap.

The FFB in the pedal is a minimal effect. You made a good choice to go cheaper. My only criteria would be the load cell.

I just tried the demo with my Fanatec GT2. It worked beautifully at 900 in sim mode with all 4 cars in the demo. I wonder what problems are reported?... especially since the only wheel with 900 degrees for an Xbox is Fanatec. The CSR basic is really just a re-costumed GT2 so anyone with that should not have a problem with the demo...I would think.

First impressions are that I very much prefer the new tire model, I like it a lot.

The CSP FFB doesn't work on consoles right now anyway. Sounds like the CSPs come with Hall effect sensors though, assuming that's what they mean by "contactless". Either way they should last longer and be smoother than pots.
