GWJ OOTP League Thread

What am I suppose to do with a player on the DL who ran out of the 15-/60- DL days and still need more days to recover? Currently he's kind of in limbo. Am I suppose to move him back on the active roster before he's healed?

Also, what is the purpose of the rehab assignment after coming off DL in OOTP? 20- or 30- day rehab assignment seem like a long time when I just need to plug someone back in the starting lineup.

Baltimore, I had to do something similar for you. Your guy refused the demotion however, so I released him for you. Everyone, please remember, if the dude has a Major League contract, HE MUST BE ON THE 40-MAN ROSTER. Such is the way of things. So you may hate him, you may want to demote him, but unless you wanna release him, he's gotta be on the 40-man.

Pred, I really need a name here. The only movement down I made was to put someone on the DL. I have no idea who you are talking about.

Thanks for the budget adjustment Pred (you said 'Seattle', but I'm sure you mean't San Diego). The added cash really comes in handy. I'll keep more of a steady eye on the scouting finances.

I've been doing the 'duffle-shuffle' with my minor leagues and MLB starting rotation, which frankly sucks. I realized, just on the verge of a Billy Beane type ouster of my scouts that they are doing fine, just didn't have much to work with at the start. ( I don't know who the GM was before myself, but if I find him in a dark alley, I may set up a batting cage with his noggin':).

I had a good time against some top teams. Sweeped those Miama Frogies, oh, sorry, mean't Prodigys (* cough) who are in 1st place in the Easter division of the South League. Plus went 2-3 against the Phoenix Henchies who are in first in the West of the Southern League. So good showing against the top of both division's of my league. I've been struggling, but slowly my win percentage with rising. Aberration, or just good happy juice mixed into the gatorade. Who's to say.

My draft was a bit of a disaster with some of my top picks. Upon closer inspection I'm wondering if the scouting boys where burning the night oil with same mentioned happy juice. But it's early in the realm of things and we'll see how things go.

I'm at the point where I may play next season without a scouting director at all. I've got guys with 1 star ratings that have absolutely torn the cover off the ball all season (1.000+ OPS) and others with high ratings who have extremely poor performance, or horrible L/R splits. I've started platooning practically every position because of how bad the splits are.

Excited to join your league. I might be looking to move some talent to build for the future. If anyone has a player that they are dying to trade for on my team let me know.

Welcome to the league.

So, I'm sorry to say this, but I think I'm going to have to drop out. I just don't seem to have the time to dedicate to the league, and the game, really. Thus, it's not fair to the rest of you guys.

It's been fun, and maybe I'll be back next year if things are a bit less crazy.

Sorry to hear this, but I know how it goes. Take care.

Quick! Let's make some trades that will cripple your team for the next 5 seasons!

Sorry to see you go. Come back when there's time.

Sad to you see you go, Counselor. But it's sadder that your Buffalo is 9 games above .500 while I'm trying hard managing my Pierogies and I'm 2-games under. Maybe I should try a more laissez-faire approach.

Hi, new manager of the Denver Atoms here. We are horrible (8 games under .500, 14.5 games back) but we are fun. We have Jacuzzi nights and free margaritas in the clubhouse. Our theme song is by Adam Ant and our mascot is Atom Ant:

IMAGE(http://www.toonopedia.com/atomant.jpg)

While our current ML lineup has a few (read lots) of holes and our pitching makes a Greenland winter look blazing hot, we have some good prospects in AAA and AA, so if any one wants to deal, give me a call! We also have money to spend if we cancel the "I <3 Disco" night or the Ratt after game concert we have planned.

Welcome...and please give address and forward clubhouse key so I may partake of 'J&M's'

Counselor, i'm sorry to see you go. There'll always be space for you in the league if you'd like to return.

Denver, New Orleans, your files uploaded just fine. Welcome to the GWJBL!

New file and reports are up! We are officially (for the most part) halfway through the season. Vancouver just completed a blistering June, and while, clearly, noone's ever won a title by July, we're very pleased with our position. Currently, it looks like us and Baltimore are pulling away in our respective divisions, and with half the season gone now, it's a good place to be. The tightest race is currently in the SL East, where 4 1/2 games separates 1st from last.

With that in mind, rather than a review of games, here's my Mid-Season Awards list:

NL MVP - Nate Bradley, Baltimore: He's tearing the cover off the ball, batting .379 and is on pace for a 40+ HR, 150+ RBI season. His OPS+ is 200, he's got a .455 OBP, he has an almost 30-base lead in Total Bases, and he's been solid at defense at first base. Legitimately terrifying and a huge reason Baltimore is on a nine-game winning streak.

SL MVP - Luis Rivera, Phoenix: If you think this is just some slap-hitter leading the entire league in batting average thanks to some bloops and dribbling singles, the .464 wOBA oughtta set you right. The only flaw in Rivera's game is his inability to draw walks (he's struck out twice as much as he's walked) and he's still on pace for 200 hits. Earning every penny of his contract.

NL Pitcher of the Half-Season - Derek McCoy, Baltimore: This could easily go to Vancouver's Miguel Angel Cortez, , who is in the top 5 in ERA, Wins, Strikeouts, WHIP and FIP, but credit to McCoy, who has put together a 9-2 record with some great, top 5 numbers while getting less than 3.5 runs in support every game. Three legitimate bad starts this year. Filthy.

SL Pitcher of the Half-Season - Clayton Green, Charlotte: If Green is taking the mound against you, assume that you're going to have to win 3-2. Green's ERA is 1.63. His WHIP is .97. Opposing teams are batting .198 off him, and his ERA+ is an astronomic 260 (for comparison, if he finished at 260 he'd have the 6th best single-season ERA+ all time). He'll almost certainly come up during the second half of the year, but this is a half-season award, and in half a season, he's only allowed more than 3 runs once in 16 starts, and has twice pitched less than 6 innings (once was due to injury).

Pitching Performance of the Half-Season - Boyd Vaughn, Charlotte: Vaughn's not great, and Vaugh's 39, meaning his current two-year deal may not be the best investment, but on June 4th, Vaughn proved he's still got something, throwing a 1-hit complete game shutout, K'ing 10 and walking no one. Atlanta got one single in the top of the 7th, and that was it.

Hitting Performance of the Half-Season - Antonio Rosando, Boston: Sure, it was a 20-4 whipping of Buffalo, but it's still saying something to have a 5-5 day with 4 RBIs and a homer. This has been a year for pitcher though, as this is the year's best batting performance, despite Rosado's only extra-base hit having been the HR.

So, keep an eye out during the second half of the season. Can New Orleans keep up their hitting? Can Vancouver continue pitching the lights out? Feel free to share your favorite moments/stories/predictions thus far.

I like the awards, Pred. I really don't know why Bradley is on such a tear as I didn't think he'd be this good. I hope McCoy continues to be a good pitcher for the next few years as I'm paying him a TON of money to stay. My starting pitching rotation was so crappy at the beginning of the season that I decided I had to re-sign him to stay competitive.

Now all I need to do is round out my top heavy hitting rotation and I'll be happy.

Sandwiches' CF Michael Bell out for 2-3 months with post-concussion symptoms. Can't compete with this payroll if my actual, good outfielders are constantly sidelined, long-term.

If anyone's looking for a solid SP to help them down the stretch, Keith McAndeoir is on the block. He's got a fairly solid 3.50 FIP and 3.7 K/BB, but I'm not willing to commit the cash to keep him long-term. He's making $15M this season and seems content to sign a contract in the 4-5 year range at around $17M a year (some of those years being club option) from my messing around negotiating with him. I'm looking for some solid prospects (biggest needs are 3B, OF, and SP) in return.

EDIT: 3B Julian Rivas is also up for grabs, as I'm not going to resign him. Sounds like most folks need outfield help, though, but I thought I'd throw him out there just in case :).

There's always an discussion going on over in OOTP forums about injuries and their frequency. Many think there are too many, but consensus is not and I believe someone even laid out a statistical answer that proves it. I for one think they are too frequent, especially mid-season. But have been proven wrong. Still...

Can he play either of the corner OF positions?

So the margarita machine in the clubhouse has been a big "hit" (get it?) as the Atoms win eight in a row to climb to 2 games below .500 and are only 13 games back. Watch out Vancouver, here come the Atoms!

Sadly, ace closer Guillermo "Millionaire" Hernandez had to be put on the 60 day disabled list after suffering a herniated disc performing "The Hustle" during "I <3 Disco" night. Starting SS Will Foxx joined Millionaire on the DL after fracturing his hand in a freak Jacuzzi incident. Fortunately both should be back in time for "Rad 'Stache" night and the playoff run.

Go Atoms!

I'm still trying to figure out all my players. Those who have indicated some interested in prospects/players, please be patient a little longer; I'm still getting my manager legs under me. I should be squared away over the weekend, then we can get down to some horse trading.

If someone has a solid MR they wouldn't mind giving up for one of the prospects in our minors, i'm up for conversation.

I'm having trouble getting my awesome MRs enough innings. We shall be talking.

New quick patch for some rare crashes, that was posted this morning. I imagine will wait to the upload tonight before we patch it:

12.5.36

'...

It fixes the following compared to version 12.5.34:
- Fixed rare crash bugs when simulating
- Fixed crash bug when offering certain player minor league contracts
- Fixed other rare crash bugs
- Fixed several problems with database exports (MySQL dumps)
- Added feature to write data dumps directly into a MySQL database
- Added support for use of "extended INSERT" when creating data dumps for MySQL

...'

Let's all grab that say... Sunday?

Alright, new file! No league news update from me today, as i'm in and out of the house a lot today, but anyway, new league file hooray!

III. Player Trades

A. General Limitations on Trades
(a) Trades which are deemed significantly unbalanced, in violation of the league rules, or would damage the integrity of the league can be voided at the Commissioner's discretion. (b) Trades cannot be made after the trade deadline unless all players involved with the deal are passed through waivers. (c) Players signed as free agents cannot be dealt until June 1st of the following season.

I'd like to bring this up, seeing that I'm looking to more or less rebuild at 17 games back. As it currently stands, I can't access the player trade or shop a player tabs- I get a message saying that I am not the commish. I understand the desire to keep people from making unbalanced trades, but with AI teams in the mix, it's useful to have both options available to figure out who is interested in what player.

Is there any way we can execute trades on our own, with the commish to have the ability to revoke anything that he deems unbalanced? I haven't been a commish of an online league before, so I'm not sure how easy it would be. As it is, a large part of the game (for me, at least) is missing without the ability to shop players around and see what teams think is fair.

As I understand it, you deal with Pred in Trades. I.e. if you and someone else want's to trade, you both do your thing here for Pred to see the arrangement, or both text him your deal and he takes care of it. (I do miss seeing that cool trade screen when you play soli'. )

Unfortunately, I believe that's hard-coded in. I'll do a little sniffing, but because a good player can completely take advantage of the AI in some circumstances, I think they put that limit in.

Also, Donan, your proposed trade will be put in for the next sim.

New files and reports! It's All-Star Week, which translates into three days of rest for your players and a chance to really take a look at your season so far. Congrats to Boston's Antonio Rosado who won All-Star MVP honors with a 1-run triple and a 2-run homer that helped drive the Northern League to a 7-4 victory.

More detail later, i'm absolutely gassed tonight. But hey, we'll be done with the season before Thanksgiving at this rate.

Quite bummed to note that no Atoms made the AllStar team. An outrage!

I was surprised to find out the Pierogies had 2 starters on the AS team, including my 17 yr old star right fielder. He promptly celebrated his fine performance (2-for-4, R, 2B, 4 TB) by sipping on a juice box. "Next year I'mma buy myself a pack of cigarette," said Peterson.

I am disappointed we dropped 3 out of 4 to the mighty Vancouver team. Looking to bounce back against division rivals Boston and Baltimore this week.

Well after two weeks of positive w/l weeks, I took a noise dive again. Just can't seem to get going. Got most of my draft picks signed. But again, injuries keep me from having the line-up I need...and want.

I had one All-Star, which was my closer. 7th in saves overall in the league, but yet did not get to play. I could of used something positive for our fans, players and front office. Who was the manager for the SL All-Stars? I'd like to send him a note on courtesy of participants and their team, AND the fans in their area. (yes, I'm saying it again)

Good luck all in the 2nd half of the season.
