Dark Souls Catch-All

On topic, really looking forward to this. Always wanted to play DS, but couldn't really justify getting a PS3 with the limited stuff on it that was exclusive and I wanted to play. Glad the new one is on 360. I will be monitoring this thread while I'm away so I can live die vicariously through the anguish of everyone here. :D

FTFY.

Pre-ordered the PS3 version today, see if I can get that metal case! Just to confirm, the coop is still random people, right? No specific friend invites?

Yeah still random. Dunno if you'll be able to force a meet up by being in the same spot like before or not. Without individual levels, it's probably going to be a little harder to pull off.

Also, a couple topics at gamefaqs are popping up with success stories of buying the game at Walmart tonight. Granted, it doesn't normally ring up, it will say there's a sell by date, but if you can get a helpful manager to manually type in the price and whatever... well, good luck, if you can't wait 3 more days.

Yeah. And then you get your copy before the release date, get into the game and suddenly: lvl 100 monsters EVERYWHERE

Yeah, this isn't the game you want to be playing early.

I bought both, so friend me up. I am 'Wabu' on both systems.

Still not getting a release day deliver option from Amazon. Anyone else having better luck?

Sold. Like, damn, that just sounds like the best thing ever.

I forget that you haven't played Demon's Souls.

Yeah, when I pre-ordered about 12 days ago. Although that was specifically the colletor's edition page that Amazon has. Theoretically the regular pre-order should be that too, but I'm not so sure how things are working now, this close to Tues.

The shipping should still be available, since they never ship it until late Monday.

Release day delivery is there for me for the PS3 version. Free for Prime, dunno about non-Prime.

I have the PS3 collector's edition pre-ordered, not a Prime member though. I guess I'll try to give them a call and see what's up.

Ah, release day is only showing up for the non-Collector's Edition.

Yeah, it looks like it. Oh well, I convinced them to give me one day shipping for free, so I'll survive. I just have to endure one agonizing day of not playing while the rest of you are.

Anybody who doesn't already have me friended on PSN, link/name is in my sig. Assuming we figure out a way to force coop after it releases, that might be fun.

Standing in corners of out the way places usually works.

The giant bomb quicklook made me even more excited about getting the game on Tuesday. I chortled when he ran out onto the bridge without looking, and laughed out loud when he went up the stairs and saw the large knight with the winged helmet.

The last minute or so, where he's running like hell between enemies, looking for a bonfire? That was freaking hysterical. His survival in that part was remarkably unexpected.

Yeah but with it all being one big world instead of distinctly broken into stages might make it more difficult. We'll find out in a couple days!

I don't think this is spoilery, as even they didn't seem sure, but after viewing some of IGN's 24 hour marathon highlights it seems like there's still no direct MP connection. There are a lot more online systems, like the bells and item morph, but a 'handshake' connection doesn't look likely.

FWIW, some folks who have the game on the 360 already are confirming that you can party chat, but it puts the game into offline mode; however, you can utilize private chat and keep the game in online mode.

Not sure if really matters much since I doubt you'll be able to schedule co-op, but the chat options are there. Seems a decent compromise.

I could see myself getting really deep into this game. I'd prefer if there were a PC version, but I'll probably settle on getting the PS3 version late this year once I get settled after a big move. I just don't have the time that I need to invest into something like this.

Looks like I will be being a console for this game, but which to choose … <.<

Are you a Transformer?

If you're really buying it just for this game, the clear answer is a PS3 so you can also play Demon's Souls

I'd agree. You might want to hold off and see if there's any real difference between the two. I imagine the PS3 was the lead platform considering DS didn't come out on the 360.

I haven't seen any reviews really delve into it, but pre-release buzz indicates that the 360 version has some performance hitches that the PS3 version doesn't. Disappointing to me, but hey, at least I get to play it. That's better than nothing!

I'm just glad I won't be a lone voice in the wilderness playing this like I was when I imported Demon's Souls. Everyone thought I was mad I tell you, MAD!

Paid off my pre-order today, probably picking it up Tuesday.

Looks like the wiki is starting to get updated.

Browsing character classes and stats today, just trying to decide what to start with tomorrow.

Despite the limitations on magic, I'm still thinking Sorcerer with Soul Arrow might be fun and familiar.

Not much information up about Miracles yet, so not sure if the Cleric is viable besides having the basic heal. It lists a couple of attack miracles but no info on charges or what the deal is.

I'm so glad they did that. Magic spam was a poor way to learn the DS.

100% agreed. It was also much less satisfying. Beat the tower knight with soul arrow spam. Now try beating him by hacking at his ankles and bringing him to his knees while dodging his spear thrusts, shield slams, and boot stomps. The true Demon's Souls starts here
