Fallout: New Vegas - Fall 2010

How do you guys take out Deathclaws? I setup mine traps that I lure them in. Even if they spot me first I run away dropping mines in front of me where I know the deathclaw will run. I usually do this in stealth mod which I can move faster in. Once I see the danger change to caution I turn around and target the deathclaw and start firing.

Stealth and headshots with the Anti-Material rifle. If that doesn't work, run backwards while letting a companion take the brunt of their attack and blasting away with something like the matter modulator or the LAER.

I think I'm about halfway through Lonesome Road so far (yeah, I'm slow) and am a bit annoyed at how linear the thing is. Feels more like a corridor shooter than one of Bethesda's open-world games.

Yeah LR was pretty point A to point B. I see that they were trying to do a the gunslinger or the road type of thing. Always stay on the road until you get to the end. Just didn't pan out very well.

Its really a shame they didnt flesh out the story and the levels better.

Between this thread and the time I spent between completing FONV (HH, DM, and OWB included) and the last DLC being released I find myself waiting for a deep sale on Lonesome Road. It's a shame it doesn't seem to be up to snuff in comparison to OWB which I thought was really well produced and worth the $$.

So, if Lonesome Road full of Deathclaws? If that's the case I might just give it a pass unless I can find a Chinese Stealth Suit mod that actually works.

3 headshots from 12.7 submachine gun in VATS take down a full HP deathclaw. But yeah. If you can get a drop on them with Anti-Mat. rifle, they generally go down in a single headshot.

Saturnite Fist Superheated sneak attack critical. One shot kill.

Anti-Material Rifle with incendiary ammo or Christine's COS silencer rifle.

I have so many perks to +crits that I can usually head shot them with one kill in iron sights with any .308 rifle (Pinpoint, Battle rifle, Gobi Campaign Sniper Rifle).

If for some reason that doesn't work Miss Fortune and Mysterious Stranger will usually finish them off.

I think my first Deathclaw kill was with a Gauss Rifle at a great distance, but after I maxed out Energy Weapons, I found that three shots to the head with an ordinary laser rifle sufficed.

Mod? What's wrong the stealth suit that's in vanilla NV? It's solved all of my problems.

Speaking of the mine/provoke trick, I pulled that on Lanius, but wanted to make sure I did it right. Since it was the end of the game anyway, I made sure to load up the pathway toward me with all of the satchel charges I had left. That came out to 28.

Robear, who was looking over my shoulder at the time, commented "Good gods, man. What do you want to kill with that?".

After that, I retreated to a safe distance, lined up my headshot with the YCS gauss rifle, and issued my challenge from extreme distance. The shot crippled his face, but it didn't stop him from barreling ass down the hill faster than a deathclaw. When he hit the stack of piled up satchel charges, however, the entire screen shook and his body simply disappeared.

I dealt with the two praetorians with my Saturnite First Superheated in 3 VATS uppercuts. The first I hit in the chest twice and the force of the second blow ripped his right arm off. The second one I uppercutted in the ballsack and the resultant pressure popped his head off like a ripe pimple.

Afterwards, I walked around trying to find Lanius' body without any success. Robear and I postulated that it was launched into low earth orbit and is currently presenting a navigation hazard to the Bright Followers.

Has anyone else been using the Lonesome Road demo charges as much as I have?

Yes, I love those things. Of course, I'm a huge mine fan and use them every chance I get. They're great for slowing down a hungry deathclaw on your tail. I've had good luck seeding them with grenades & missiles to take down some of the big boys as well.

Has anyone taken the plunge on the new Gun Runners Arsenal?
Sadly it looks like the kind of thing I dislike; powerful weapons added to vendors with exorbitant prices, not found out in the Mojave/used by enemies, no adventure/quest/notes/associated with any of them, etc. Can anyone who has it confirm this so far if any enemies show up with the weapons, or if it's just a caps-a-thon to acquire them? The only thing that gives me hope is this bit from the description:

Trek far and wide throughout the Mojave Wasteland in search of this elite class of weapons that range from the outrageously potent to the bizarrely impractical.

That sounds like they'll be tucked away/carried by powerful enemies, but it could just mean 'fast travel around to all of the vendors and see if you have enough money, whee!'

So far it sounds like they are just sold from vendors but it's possible that there maybe other ways to find the weaposn, I just don't know though.

I'm considering it. But I may wait till they have a Fallout New vegas sale and grab the Lonesome Road DLC at the same time.

That's what I'm thinking. Since they just came out though, it may be a while til they're on sale.

I expect there'll be a nice discount at the holiday sale, if not sooner. Either way, there are plenty of other games on the pile to keep me busy for a while.

I hope so. I'm kind of disabled on Lonesome Road now, but OWB wasn't on sale during the last sale so I still need to pick that up.

This game is driving me nuts. I have not yet walked into the Vegas proper, yet I'm level 30 with around 60 hours put into the game. Sure hope there isn't much left to do inside Vegas.

Yep, I played through it in a similar way, saving Vegas for the last thing. You still have quite a bit of content left, and there's a fair few sidequests to be had in there.

For those playing Lonesome Road, makes sure to try out the crouch/sneak vision thing on the advanced riot gear helmet. It can make for some cool Silent-Hill esque vistas from time to time.

Finally finished last night. Missed some things, but I just wanted to end it. Probably go back and start a new character and try one of the other endings. Although I'm not too keen on siding with Caesar's Legion, but will probably still do it.

Still have to do Dead Money and Honest Hearts DLC too. But, Battlefield 3 beta tonight... so... may have to wait a week!

Just finished Lonesome Road, with my character getting to to lvl 47 (went in at 43). The thing is I finished the story without ever once entering the Courier's Mile section. Since this DLC is so linear I don't think I ever got a quest to even go to that area, so I went back to check it out:

Spoiler:

Good grief. Constant radiation exposure I can handle. Bands of 3-5 Marked Men? tough, but I can usually handle those as well. The single deathclaw? Sure. But 3 deathclaws at a time? I think I managed to take out one before getting mauled.

Is there any point to this area? Some uber weapon or other item?

Short answer no

Spoiler:

There is a unique knife stuck to a lamp post just as you walk in. Other than 2 nukes to shoot for the achievement and a bunch of ammo there is zero reason for the place

There is a way to get the bips and beeps translated. You either have to do something in OWBs or maybe have a high science score. Whichever it is ED-E was fully translated for me. I'm pretty sure it was from OWBs

Interesting, I had 100 on science when I went in. There must be some sort of perk you can get from OWB then.

Yeah, I'm at Science 95 and only get things like "Excited Beeping". Maybe it's one of the robot-related perks?

I do hear all the audio logs it plays.

Uggh, I was afraid of that. Achievements be damned!

Just finished Dead Money. I enjoyed myself but I have trouble imagining going back on any other play-throughs.

Yea that is also the way I felt. Maybe if I am hard up for caps I might do a run through so I can grab a bunch of those gold bars again.

I will play through it to see what other ways I can end the final encounter.
