Wayne LaPierre - President Obama not banning guns so he can destroy the Second Amendment.

You can't make this stuff up. Well, I actually, I guess the NRA can, after all.

“[The Obama campaign] will say gun owners — they’ll say they left them alone,” LaPierre told an audience at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) Friday. “In public, he’ll remind us that he’s put off calls from his party to renew the Clinton [assault weapons] ban, he hasn’t pushed for new gun control laws… The president will offer the Second Amendment lip service and hit the campaign trail saying he’s actually been good for the Second Amendment.”

“But it’s a big fat stinking lie!” the NRA leader exclaimed. “It’s all part of a massive Obama conspiracy to deceive voters and destroy the Second Amendment in our country.”

Clearly he's only supported the second amendment to lure it into a false sense of security, then WHAMMO! he's gonna rip it to shreds.

I can't tell if he sincerely believes that crap or if he's cognizant of how insignificant of an issue Obama has made gun control and, faced with the inevitable shrinking budgets that come with his lack of relevance, has to make sh1t up.

I suspect it is a bit of both.

I am so done being a Republican after all of this crap. The party has gone off the deep end. Who can actually believe this crap?

Welcome to the wilderness, Ulairi.

I feel your pain. I joined the party during the 1980's when it was about being snide, superior, and good at math (a natural fit for me). Now it just seems to be about being angry, white, and afraid of change (none of which adequately describe me).

Certain.

I'm actually quite hopeful for America's future and think all the crazy talk about "watering the tree of liberty" is distressing. I don't like what the nuts have done to my party, but it certainly doesn't inspire me to want to put a bullet in anyone. I love my guns, but I don't think violence or the threat of violence (implied or otherwise) is an acceptable form of political expression in a civilized society.

Disappointed? Of course. Angry. Not so much.

Now... I'm not American.... but where have i heard this before....?

These guys are crazy... It's like tin-foil hat-wearing zealots have become the dominant force in politics today.

The NRA gets a lot of financial support when there's a lot of push to enact more gun control. So at times when there's not that push, they have to find some way to drum scare up new donations. They keep calling me at home since I let my membership lapse in February.

Ok, I think I just spotted one surefire way to spot a conspiracy thinker: when ABSENCE of evidence is a clear sign that they're plotting against you, you've got a problem.

Even after the Giffords shooting, I don't remember the White House making any noise about gun control. If there was ever a time to jump on that issue, that was it. If they didn't do it then, I don't think they're going to do it at all.

I kinda liked the NRA when I was in my 20s... I was superficially exposed to them via the Scouts, and they always seemed like good guys to me, at the time.

This guy? He's just scary.

As much as I'd like to believe this is a Republican problem, it is sadly an human being problem, or perhaps if I'm being optimistic it is an American problem and there is a place out there where people make sense.

I'm not sure I've ever listened to anyone after they said, "massive ______ conspiracy." Even when I should have.

And y'know, honestly, I've known people in the NRA who are decent folks. In my experience, they are ALL ABOUT responsible ownership and safety. I don't really care about their politics if they're teaching people who own guns how not to accidentally kill themselves or others.

On the other hand, it's hard to tell how 2nd term presidents will change direction. It's plausible that Obama would keep gun control out of his 1st term to bring it up in his 2nd.

Millions of Republicans and likely every Tea Partier.

It also doesn't help when you sneeringly quote Obama talking about people clinging to their guns and religion and then go to wail about a secret government conspiracy to take away your guns

The individual members are mostly reasonable, but all the money they give is used by the NRA leadership to do horrible, horrible things. It's a very dangerous thing to have the leadership of one of the most powerful political lobbying groups claiming sh*t like this.

It's plausible that Obama would keep gun control out of his 1st term to bring it up in his 2nd.

Is there any evidence that he's holding a different position in abeyance? Why would you even suspect this, outside the propaganda? Dude's not exactly a textbook Democrat...

I said it's plausible, not that I suspect it.

It's equally plausible that he is keeping a massive tax cut for the wealthiest .0001% of Americans out of his first term only to bring it up in his 2nd. And by "equally plausible" I mean highly implausible.

What if Obama steals your parking spot?

I box with one of the guys on his personal protection detail and he's a beast. From what I'm told, he's surrounded by guys like that and they have P90's with armor piercing rounds.

So if Obama's parking in my spot, I'll let him as long as he's coming over and bringing the beer.

What if he's honking his horn late at night to let you know he's there and to come out and get your beer?

Hmm. If it's cold, he might still get a pass. But if it's warm and flat, I might end up spending a night in the pokey.

You're probably safe. He doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would show up somewhere with warm beer.

Probably. I'm probably safe anyway. As far as I know, there isn't a jury in the land that would convict me for beating up someone who showed up to my door with warm, flat beer... president or no.

It's plausible that Obama would keep gun control out of his 1st term to bring it up in his 2nd.

Even if he did do that, the man has shown no backbone whatsoever. The Republicans would frown slightly, and he'd promptly give up on the idea.
