Dark Souls Catch-All

I have the PS3 and 360 versions preordered atm. I was waiting to see what system the majority here jumped on before I cancelled one. And yes, collectors edition as a preorder bonus is a fantastic incentive for me. I hope other publishers take notice.

Have seen a couple articles talking about compression to fit on one 360 disc, so by default the PS3 one is better? But also that From Software developed the PS3 version and then a 3rd party ported it to 360. Seems like PS3 is the safest bet.

Do we know if the online is the same as the first where it's more random? Cause I can't see the 360's online features really helping if that's the case.

I ordered PS3, for the record.

I did the opposite. Waiting through the load screens on PS3 got tiresome after 400+ deaths, so the ability to install to the hard drive wins. That and XBL > PSN.

I'm thinking 360 because then at least there's a possibility of playing with friends. My PS3 friends list is really small, and I have no real desire to put in the effort to populate it. Also, I hate the PS3 controller.

Aw, I'll be your PS3 friend, Chaz.

I only own the superior piece of hardware, so I ordered the PS3 version.

But how are you going to play that PS3 copy on your 360?

Oh snap!

Taggage. Watched with envy people's experiences with Demon's Souls, so I'm very excited for this. That game almost got me to buy a PS3.

The same way I watch my blue rays, I guess - by firing up the PS3.

Is there information that states the PS3 version doesn't install like the 360 version? Also, I haven't read any details on Dark Souls online functions, so I'm not sure how much of an advantage better network software will be. I'll probably pre-order it for the PS3, but I hope we get some good pre-release info from the press shortly.

Even if the PS3 version has a data install option, I've yet to see a PS3 game with an install option that even came close to an installed 360 game in terms of load times. Regarding the online, it's not about the network, it's about the friends list. All my friends are on 360, where as only 1 of them is on PS3.

Case in point regarding the load times:

Brilliant.

Kind of. I didn't read carefully. Punishing players because retailers broke street dates is...not great. I get the motivation but they're not doing anything wrong. It's also not much of a punishment.

Ooh! I didn't know the PS3 version was playable on the PC!

On-topic, I preordered mine today with the $20 off credit from Gears 3 via Amazon. 360 edition for me since I have no PS3; thus this will be my first foray into this gaming franchise, and Demon Souls was the game I was most envious of PS3 owners for. Totally stoked to get into this in October! We'll have to try to make sure all of us on the 360 get each other on our friends lists for this game.

I preordered the PS3 version. Amazon gave me a $10 promo credit, and Prime gives me free release-day shipping.

ENABLED!

Did you choose the collector's edition? I didn't get a promo credit...

Or did you mean you used a $10 credit on it?

I also see no promo credits (and it's a good thing, too).

Yeah I went to re-check because sometimes they add those in late. But don't see one anywhere.

If they had the credit and the collector's edition I wouldn't have even thought twice about it. As it was, I had to wait until I had some gift card money to push me over the edge.

I just saw this on joystiq and thought i'd come here to see what you guys thought of this.

Personally, i hope they remove them after the release date... cause otherwise, punishing your paying players directly for playing the game is even worse than DRM, IMO.

Mind you... maybe the types of masochistic players that are attracted to Dark Souls might get some fetishistic pleasure out of it

Damn, Demons Souls was the only game that pushed me slowly towards buying a console.
And now Dark Souls comes around at a time where I don't have the spare money to buy one.

It didn't show up until I was checking out. Not sure where it would have come from, I don't recall buying anything else recently that would have given me any amazon credit... Hm.

[edit]

The invoice just shows "Promotional Credit -$10.00"

Not sure why it doesn't show on the item itself, though.

Nope, no credit here.

PS3 version ordered (no 360) - wish this was a PC game

I wonder if the network features will be friendlist only or if it connects with anyone in general?

I held out for this one over Demon Souls since it was going to be on the 360 but now I'm thinking this would be better played on the PS3 so I'm torn.

Maybe I'm just that special!

Amazon promotional credits are given when the game ships, not when the game is purchased. It looks like you had a credit on your account from a prior purchase that was applied to this one.

I just don't know from what. It doesn't show in my account anywhere, which is odd. You'd think they would attribute it to some past purchase!

The prereview reviews make me want this game a great deal. A tag is in order.
