Red Orchestra: Heroes of Stalingrad (RO2)

I got into a match last night on a map new to me (Spartanovka). Got some capture points, no kills of course, but only three deaths. Then after the map rotated, no sound! I had to reboot to get the sound back online. Then the server browser didn't work, at all. I stopped at that point.

Are you guys meeting up on vent or mumble?

Had a fun time last night too. Definitely took some getting used to, but by the end I felt like I was probably a net contributor to the team. That said, I blame any and all losses on Garion because he is a communist agent that was trying to sow discord in the ranks.

Vent.

1) I don't know what you're talking about, I was a fine contributor to the team ... even if some nonbelievers needed to be executed.

2) I truly thought you did really well last night.

Is there some secret forum where folks announce when they're playing? I don't think I've ever seen more than 2 people in vent playing RO2.

No, we just kind of gather. I'd say evenings are obviously the best time to try and find other people.

Really, how it seems to work is to have friended people in Steam and then in-game use the friends tab and join a game with someone. Then it snowballs from there. That's been my experience.

Most of us i think are east coast, but like last night when we're staying up late you'll see more as the others come online. We had 6-8 at one point last night in vent and a couple more in game not in vent.

Edit:

I'll be playing this today off/on and ready for some drinking/playing shennagins tonight as well.

Definitely play more RO2 in the evenings like 7-8ish central or later.

Actually, you can control the PPsh, you just have to anticipate the barrel rise.

One thing that bugs me - practically the only thing - is that I sometimes saw people continuously firing a MG, with seemingly no effect on the barrel. Now, this was in beta, but does it still happen in the release version? That kind of sucks - but then, they've got to reload afterwards.

I'd rather see it overheat and fail when some bozo does that. Changing barrels in mid-game would be nightmarish. Or maybe they could have a button to let some Landser piss all over the barrel...

Edit - This is totally wrong. I did the single-player tutorial and you *can* ruin barrels, having to replace them in battle. Sierra Hotel!

Well, I was totally wrong in my earlier comments. I did the single player tutorial and you *can* ruin MG barrels by shooting too quickly. They then need to be replaced, which is done with the alternate fire button. Outstanding!

I am in after he family goes to bed. I have been playing off and on this afternoon.

Had a nice little session going. Always a nice feeling when you recognize a name in game as a goodjer. "Hey, is that? It is!" Sad when you're immediately pulled away for some honey do's.

After just logging off, looks like a 200 mb patch has been released.

We've got an update uploaded to Valve that should be released today. The update includes the following changes:

- fixed DDE content being awarded when it should/shouldn't be
- fixed RO1 content being awarded when it should/shouldn't be
- fixed the server browser not responding after disconnecting from a game
- removed MKB/AVT from Squad Leaders/Commanders, only Assault gets it now
And an update released yesterday included an undocumented change:
- improved performance for the Ultra setting

And before anyone asks - no it does not fix/change every other possible thing under the sun It fixes what it says it fixes, nothing more, nothing less. We're chewing through the issues as fast as we can, and you'll probably see another update on Monday.

Just had a great run on a realism PB server. I was a machinegunner on the Sov side. This was a firefight scenario in that little village with the church in the middle.

About halfway through, I discovered that bushes are really excellent concealment at ranges that are useful for MGs. I figured out where my guys were attacking (and later defending, and set up under a bush with a line of sight that intersected the area they were attacking. I used the green flash to suppress people and watched my team advance on either side, then picked up and hit another bush or a trench to do the same. When the Fascists got to the church, I had a view of one side, and noticed that they were running in and out on that side. So I set up under another bush and killed about 7 guys in the next few minutes, as the reinforcements tried to get in and hold the church. They had trouble seeing me, and since they all dropped or took insufficient cover when fired on, I was able to pick them off for quite a while. Finally someone flanked me. I kept getting bonus points, though, and I actually killed the guy who shot me as I bled out. 10 kills total, about 65 points. Fun!

At one point, I set up near my squad leader. Every useful thing I did earned points for protecting him. So it's worth sticking with the leaders.

If a weekly game night starts up, I'll probably pick this game up.

Will be playing this primarily until the new phase in beta starts or BF3 beta in aprox. 2 weeks.

I am glad I purchased this, I'm having a lot of fun with it!

After much lurking and soul-searching, I've purchased this game. Hope it doesn't take all night to download.

Are we still looking at a Monday or Wed night game?

Despite my vocal frustrations with this game. I would be down for that

While I'm not specifically aiming for it, I'm really looking to get that Marksman Silver Achievement(Kill over 175 meters with bolt action). I picked up a 168 m kill on Pavlovs House yesterday. FallenFighters loaded up on my session this morning and I figured this would be my chance to get it. 1 kill at 166 meters, and 2 at 161 meters!

There's something really satisfying about identifying a target at 150 meters out and adjusting the sights to 200 then holding a bit low and getting that headshot.

I'm doing this all with iron sights and the Rifleman class. Is the achievement Rifleman only, or can the Sniper complete as well? Some of the sniper rifles are bolt action.

I've had shots over 200m (212m the longest) with the bolt action sniper rifle and no achievement.

I vote for Wednesday (and couldn't make most Mondays.)

Achievements and stats are totally borked right now. I wouldn't even bother caring about them. I killed someone as rifleman and got a achievement for 100 tank kills. It's really the only major bug I've encountered, however. There are some issues here and there that I would consider minor (clipping issues, etc) but overall the game hasn't been the giant disaster as some make it out to be.

I got my upgraded machine gun perk. No clue what it does.

One of the servers i was on a guy said he was level 17 and was leveld up to level 70 and all his weapons up to level 30.

Being a machine gunner on Pavlov's house (axis side) is quickly becoming one of my favorite game experiences. Shooting fish in a barrel

I'm level 50 something with 3.5k kills. All legit

Yea but did you do it all in one round?

So, does anyone get 60 fps on this game? With the exception of processor (I have a C2D at 3.0 GHz), my specs are all above the recommended, and still the game runs very janky. Even with 1280x720, all medium, no AA, I get something around 28-40 fps.

And previous UE3 games always ran well for me. Unreal III, Batman AA, the Bulletstorm demo, Mass Effect.

So, what's the deal?

I am getting 60 no worries, all settings maxed at 1920x1200.
