NCAA Football 2011 Season Catch-All

I think Miss St will give LSU a run for their money. Miss St has to be a little bit angry about last weeks game and the chance to knock off a top 5 team at home is a good motivator. They'll come ready to play tonight. I expect LSU will come out with the win, but I doubt it's a blowout.

Both Oklahoma and FSU haven't really played anyone yet, so it should be a really good test for both teams.

Dear MSU: Maybe 15 QB draws in a row got a bit predictable.

/slight exaggeration

That said, I was surprised how well they answered with that drive. I still think LSU wins, but their D was less impressive just now.

This battle of field goals is shades of A&M/Nebraska last year. Amazing no one has gotten a TD yet. Looks like it's anyone's game, and MSU could put an end to LSU's MNC hopes in the next 20:26 of game time.

What a game, I was watching during BC2 night and I think LSU is a very beatable team. The score of the Arkansas-LSU game will be 31-24 Hogs. Razorbacks win this fight. LSU might be a tad overrated, but they are probably still a great team. They'll be in the Sugar Bowl for sure. Good fight for MSU, just a couple of plays away from the win on both sides of the ball.

Okay, now you are overdoing the pain meds. No chance Arkansas beats LSU this year, at least not unless Jefferson gets back from suspension and regains the starting role which I can't see happening. Lee played a wonderful game last night except for one errant pass that got picked off.

Bama will be tough for sure, but I really think we have a good shot at running the table and playing in the big dance this year!

I agree with warhawk completely. Either LSU isn't as good as I thought, or MSU is better than I thought. A win is a win, and in no way does LSU's ranking drop, but I was expecting less of a contest.

OU/FSU tomorrow is going to be huge! Love to see these highly ranked teams butting heads! Love the carnage of undefeated teams playing each other!

It'll be late in the year and a lot of things can happen before then. This year we have a much better defense and an offense that will move the ball and score. I just don't see LSU being able to cover our receivers. Couldn't do it last year and I don't see you doing it this year. If we can get a RB to step up, it's a done deal. I'd also like to say that it's going to take a lot more than one TD to beat the Hogs.

Spoiler:

And we beat you last year. ;)

MSU is better than you thought, basically average/middle tier SEC team is > than all but top tier of Big 12 teams. Playing on the road in SEC is brutal over the course of the season.

If the Aggies do join the SEC, you really do need to prepare yourself for the reality that you will be joining Arkansas as a second tier Western Division team and as such, you will lose your fair share of games in Starkvegas and at the Grove.

Historical record of A&M vs SEC. Not good, and even worse in the modern era.

I'll take middle tier, but it's a pretty wide middle. The only top tier team I see this year is Alabama. Everyone else in the West is very beatable, and the East is joke (has been for the last couple of years).

My favorite thing about the SEC is that every week there's a chance that one of these top tier teams will lose. It's the most dynamic conference in college football. Even teams in down years will pull of the upset and any team can be turned around a a year or two. If middle tier means 10+ win seasons and BCS bowl berths I think TAMU fans will be happy.

Spoiler:

And don't worry TAMU fans, as long as Houston Nutt is coaching in Oxford, no team has to worry about losing at the Grove.

Wow, right? If that happens I expect the super-conference feeding frenzy to explode.

ferret - History can be deceiving. A&M foolishly fired RC Slocum and then Dennis Francione absolutely dismantled our program; I don't put much stock in "recent" history for that reason. And football is very cyclical. Do recall that while LSU beat us soundly earlier this year, we beat them 5 times in a row before that, and then they cancelled our yearly series. We used to compete with Arkansas very well, and were dominating the SWC towards the end.

No one, no one, no one is expecting A&M to be the SEC champs in the next couple years. All of these warnings almost sound like someone is saying that. We know we're moving to the hardest division of the hardest conference. And this is the year our team is loaded; we'll lose a bunch of seniors afterwards and next year is a big question mark for me regardless of the conference.

If we do falter next year, I expect the media and Big 12 fans to really harp on how A&M can't hang with the SEC, and to completely ignore that next year is likely a down year for us regardless.

Not from the red dirt state.
90% of fans here of OU and your fellow ag school are behind A&M the whole way.
With the Aggies leaving, it really opened the door for OU to have major negotiating power in terms of football and OSU with a solid basketball program and baseball tradition (go they've sucked lately).
The Aggies are going to fit in very well in an Arkansas type spot in the SEC west. May not win it for 5 or so years, but I expect some great games. Even in the years that the aggies absolutely stunk they always showed up at the start of games when playing OU.

Haha, yes you did. But we had Jefferson as our QB who has always been just terrible. I think you will find us to be much improved, especially in our D-line which, quite frankly, has always been frightening and now is almost unstoppable. I have no doubt they are the best in the country. Right now we are 3-0 with two wins against really solid opponents. Northwestern doesn't even count.

Granted, Arkansas is 2-0, but somehow racking up 50+ points against the likes of Missouri State and New Mexico isn't quite as impressive as Oregon and MSU. And who do they play this week?? Ooooh! Troy!!!!! Is next week Northwest School of the Blind or Girl's High?

And...

Spoiler:

this year, you come to Baton Rouge!

Man, Auburn's Dyer is a beast.

Clemson's coach not looking like a fun guy to play for just there.

Wow, crazy bobbling catch.

It would have been weird for LSU to have won by a field goal in 2009 in 2008, that's all I'm saying.

You guys still play Western Kentucky in November so it's not like LSU doesn't play the pushover schools. We've beat you in Baton Rouge before. And that was with a coach that just lost to Vandy 30-7.

Houston Nutt is a terrible coach, probably the worst coach in college football and we beat you in 2007 in Baton Rouge. In 2009 LSU won by a field goal in OT. Anything can happen. It's the game I look forward to most each year.

Yeah, it's going to be a long conference season for Kansas football. Nothing like giving up 600 yards rushing.

Missed this thread earlier in the month I guess.

Although I thought about it last week until Louisville laid such an egg against Florida International. But figured I didn't want to come in here and talk about how much we sucked.

Anyway, big game against Kentucky going on right now. I figure part of last week was the old "looking ahead" but still, that means they better show up tonight. So far the Cardinals have looked pretty solid. 14-10 lead at half. Starting QB knocked out, but freshman Teddy Bridgewater has led the offense and thrown TD passes.

Lots of hype this spring/summer about Teddy and how he entered school early in the spring, went through spring practice, knows the playbook, and is ready to be on the field. Tonight: trial by fire.

Wow, that was a rough looking game tonight. It's going to be hell this week for our players. Adjustments need to be made. Still, we can score very quickly, but the defense is going to need to step up.

Gonna need to do better in Dallas...

Dallas might as well be four weeks away. We have bigger obstacles to overcome before then.

I would say. Troy lit up for 28 points... not good. Having said that, I didn't see anything that couldn't be corrected in the highlights I saw. But it should have been a shutout as Troy had nowhere near the talent that Arkansas had. I wouldn't have wanted to be in that locker room after the game...

A friend of mine got season tickets for Iowa this year. He invited me to the game, and I was nervous after we lost to ISU. For three quarters we were miserable, but that fourth quarter was magic. I know we aren't winning any championships this year, but too see that kind of comeback live is something that I won't soon forget.

Go Hawks!

Troy only had to work for 14, the other 14 were gimmes. The pick 6 was poor tackling by our offense, but that final TD was unacceptable. The guy was wide open, no coverage. After thinking over the game all night (worked the night shift) I don't see anything that can't be fixed. We didn't have trouble moving the ball, and the running game looked a lot better. You could tell that Petrino was giving the backs a lot of reps. Don't know how much it helped, but our starting RB had some impressive carries early in the game. The defense needs some work. That said our starting middle linebacker was benched to make sure he'll be ready for Bama. The guy is a leader and having him out there will make a big difference.

I think we can still win next week. Coming out and scoring is going to be essential, and the defense is going to need to play a lot better. That said Alabama will capitalize on any mistakes. So we need to tighten up all around.

Well, FSU played tough. Pretty close considering a freshman backup was the QB for the 2nd half

Was also impressed with FSU defense, it has certainly improved over last year!

USF is also looking good!

Apparently it's true. John Swofford's going on the teevee this morning to make it all official and stuff.

And here we thought the SEC was going to everything south of Chapel Hill and then this happens. Huh.

Not sure what I think or where this is going, as it came while everyone is/was watching the A&M to SEC drama.

P.S. Nice to see the ACC not embarrass itself this weekend, even if VT nearly crapped itself against Division IV North Southwest Arkansas A&M University.

That German guy on your d-line? He is awesome.
Good game for OU. That quick strike to Stiles in the second half really is why our offense is so dangerous. Big play to Broyles and then the no huddle into a TD to Stiles.

Absolutely great game between 2 very good teams.

The FSU D was ready for primetime, the offense not quite so much.
