Horrible news stories Catch All

Closest you might get for now is Werner Herzog's Grizzly Man, or at least reading the description of the demise of Grizzly Man. The one problem: that one isn't fiction, either.

Hmm, is it bad that I know I won't have any problems sleeping tonight after reading that?

Not really, I didn't.

We had a black bear walk through camp this summer. He/she got into the cafeteria and shredded the coffee machine then took a huge dump by the showers. There were probably 400 people in camp and no one ever saw him/her.

Nobody else caught this, but I did. You were the bear, weren't you?

This thread will be good for not just man-eating bears, but also for a different kind of horror ...

This is just astounding

Some 'gypsies' were running their usual racket, fortune telling, but this story has an amazing facet: one of the gypsies' "victims" (I use that term loosely here) was a NY Times bestselling author. She gave the gypsies over twenty million dollars. Another person had given them $496,000.

IMO, this is a testament to the destructive power of mystical thinking, and what can happen when we accept the supernatural without using healthy skepticism. The human mind is a strange and wonderful thing.

Absolutely agreed. On the other hand this is a major case which is presumably setting some precedent by pressing charges, maybe it will result in a world where all forms of this result in being charged and punished. . . okay that pipe dream only lasted about 5 seconds

Too bad Colbert's on break.

Coffee machine wasn't working? I've done worse in that situation.

Another horrible news story, the url sums it up.

Due to my particular sensitivity to issues involving kids the parents who do this sort of thing are doing a great job of convincing me to attempt being a real life Dexter, but then the kid would have to suffer their parent's demise - can't win.

At least she got caught though.

Continuing the wtf parenting theme, this toddler beauty pageant mom put her 4-year old in a padded bra and fake butt. You can relax though, the mom has an explanation.

That kid looks, quite literally, like a plastic barbie doll. I'd say that "mother" (using the term loosely here) has some unresolved psychological issues, to put it nicely.

I'm posting this here to hopefully offset some of the thread's horror.

It's a horrible accident (video is NOT graphic at all), car hits motorcycle, big fire, biker up under the car. A group of people decide to help.

MSNBC story/video

Walked past shortly after a scooter hit a bike on my path to work this morning. Man, vehicle accidents still get me cringing.

I live in Daytona and we have Bike Week here in Feb, when 600,000 bikers converge on the city. I've seen some sh*t.

What a cool story. Except for the lazy jerk in the suit who stood around with his thumb up his butt. I hope his family and friends gave him hell for not helping.

I live where all to commuters exit the highway to work in the Loop, and I walk to work. This may not be the best place for me while I'm coalescing.

Not much to say on this one at the moment, between the graphic nature of the event and the sheer "W T F" I'm still processing it and stuck at ". . . . . ."

Short version:

Spoiler:

A lady desperate for baby murders a pregnant woman in rather horrific fashion while attempting to steal one.

Mentally disabled people chained and imprisoned in a boiler room, so 3 scumbags could steal their SS checks.

These perps are among the lowest form of human garbage that I can fathom. I loved this line from the story:

Police have not named the suspects -- two men, ages 51 and 41, and a 50-year-old woman who is believed to have orchestrated the check-stealing scheme.

"They'll be charged with pretty much everything we can find in the crimes code ... from aggravated assault to kidnapping to false imprisonment," Evers said. "You name it, we're going to stick it on them."

Humans are the most horrible creatures.

I know, every time I begin to think they aren't that bad a news story reignites my misanthropy.

Teachers caught on tape bullying special-needs girl

I dare not think of how often this goes uncaught, one case is bad enough.

That is horrible.

I saw this horrifying story this morning:

9 year old girl trapped in crashed vehicle for 2 days - her father next to her, dead.

I can't even imagine how unfathomably hard that must have been, and will be for her for years to come.

That's the most disgusting thing I've heard all week. But how did none of the other students complain? Teachers have been fired from my school for less than that.

Man dies from penis enhancing injection. Woman charged with manslaughter. In an attempt to "enhance" the guy she injected silicone; he died from a silicone embolism.

This story isn't as soul crushing as some of the others because they were consenting -and moronic- adults. The horrible part is, what do people say about him at the funeral?

He constantly sought to improve himself..

To be fair he was under a lot of pressure after she got her new concrete ass.

She's a brick. house.

I'm sorry, I forgot about this thread.

No it wasn't me, I have one golden rule when camping, don't f*ck with my coffee.

I would have choked that bastard to death if I'd caught it messing with the coffee machine.

22 year NYPD veteran dies after being shot in the head while responding to a home invasion robbery.

The take from this robbery? A cheap watch and $70 cash.

What a f*cked up world.
