FF2011: GWJFFL Week 1

I just saw a picture of the injury, and oh sweet jeesus does it look gruesome.

Ouch. I don't think those things are supposed to bend that way.

I missed that play due to getting a new beverage; when I got back to the TV all I saw was him being walked to the locker room and the announcers saying it was too gruesome to replay. I didn't know *anything* was too gruesome for Fox to replay.

Yup, that's pretty messed up looking.

Anyone in GWJFFL2 wanna trade me a comperable RB for Mendenhall? I have no doubt that Mendenhall will do well this season, but I under estimated how bad it would hurt my soul to root for a Steelers player.

Put you out of your misery on the first drive Jolly. Now you can go play TF2.

Awwww, crapmonkey.

The rest of my players did well enough that if I had started Rodgers and Jennings, I would be winning my first matchup. As it is, I need to hope that Grankowski gets 13 points in the next 10 minutes if I want to pull out a win. And given the way that Brady spreads around passes, that is unlikely.

Maybe you should have drafted Welker.

I'm just happy I'm not playing against Tom Brady tonight.

In my other league I went in to tonight with Brady and Welker down 68 points. I am now winning.

Rabbit got Welker.

Holy crap - 36.2 points for Welker tonight, and it might be more if the Patriots get the ball back tonight.

Well, I am playing against him and I'm not happy about it.

I, for one, fully expect Tom Brady to play like this the whole year and pass for over 8,000 yards. It's just what the NFL is about these days.

Ugh, I may have won the first week matchup but I think I'm in big trouble.

Aw, lost my high scorer in both leagues... silly Brady. :p

I was looking forward to that extra dollar of free agent money or whatever.

And my other league gives out the little ESPN trophies for the high scorer each week. Oh well, I'll still get the high team one over there.

Congrats on the win against me, *Legion*. I'm just glad to see that not starting Devery Henderson instead of Brandon Gibson didn't cost me the game. (I thought very long and very hard about starting him this week)

Someone said the following better than I could (emphasis mine)...

I am going to file this away for future use. 8-)

I'd sig it if I had room.

Post-championship slump? Team Grumpicus comes crashing back to earth in GWJFFLK. Sure, I won all three of my games in those "other" leagues but who cares, right?

Both Brady and Welker had career high fantasy games according to our point system ... And Zacny whined about it all night. Go figure.

What a great first week!

With Colston out now ...

Bah! You were competitive in the Keeper league. My Stafford to Johnson connection is just too much. Muahahahaa!

Way to celebrate after week 1. We'll see where this goes. (Congratz on the wins, though.)

If by "competitive" you mean "second-lowest points scored."

What is a reasonable amount to bid on a free agent? Every other league I've played in, players on waivers were just first-come first-serve.

There's really no rhyme or reason, but don't expect a first-come-first-served mentality.

Last year the big injury to Ryan Grant caused bids on James Starks in week 2. Since it was a guaranteed starter, he went for between $50-100 in the 3 leagues. Granted I think whoever bid $100 thought that we got $100 each week instead of the whole season. But for a guaranteed starter like that, apparently half or more of your budget is about right.

A lot of other pickups on the season went anywhere from $5-15. Some people got players for free on some weeks. Most everyone only has 1 kicker and will pick one up for a bye week. Probably will be able to get one of those for nothing.

There are also fantasy football advice columns at various sites out there that give recommendations on what to bid, based on our exact system. This $100 per season is actually in use in a lot of leagues.

All correct, except it was Brandon Jackson. Starks didn't become a featured ballcarrier for the Pack until the postseason.

So who is this year's Frisman Jackson?

Shhhh. Don't remind people to be smart with their money. Sheesh.

Yes, yes I did. And I think I only bid $75 or so. I had about $20 for the rest of the year.

Also, you can bid zero??

I would appreciate it if y'all would check my numbers. The site format has changed slightly and so I've had to tweak my scraper script. Thanks.
