NFL 2011 Week 1

Dammit, that's what I get for relying on My Recent Posts so much. I missed getting into the picks. I would have picked GB, but I will take a pass on that one.

Falcons
Steelers
Jets

For the Tie-Breaker I will take the Chiefs.

One nice effect of Manning going down is that the local station seems to have switched from the Colts/Texans game to the Chiefs/Bills game. But I have to admit, I'm a little more interested in seing how the Rams look against Vick and the Eagles.

Well, I do have a rep around here to maintain.

What it really does is validate Ted Thompson's choice to let Favre go when he did.

Beyond validated. I think he's fair game for criticism for waiting too long. But the reality is that he didn't have the luxury of making a pure football move. Obviously, when he drafted Rodgers, it wasn't with the expectation of paying the guy a 1st round contract and having him sit the bench for the majority of it. I don't doubt if he was able to make the call as a pure football decision, Favre would have been let go earlier.

Of course, I also think the absolute world of Ted Thompson, so I may just be making excuses for him.

This also raises a question. How long until we really believe Favre is truly retired? One full season? I think I'll need to see two full Favre-less seasons before I'll believe he's really done.

One full season. His body has taken so much of a beating that, at his age, once he shuts it down for a year, I think it will be impossible to start back up.

Unless the NFL rules committee starts allowing wheelchairs on the field, I think we're done having to watch Favre trot his corpse out there every week.

I'm going to wager that unlike Montana, Favre will not be 100% forgiven by the GB fanbase when Canton comes calling.
I have never rooted so hard against someone than I did in the NFC championship game two years ago. I'm honestly ashamed of myself.

49er fans rooted for Montana in KC. It helped that he was traded to the AFC, but more importantly, he never held the team hostage or did any fake retirements or any of that crap. Montana never did anything to wrong 49er fans. He never wore out his welcome, and he retired once and did so before he deteriorated into a joke.

And so the blackouts begin... and the days of only getting to watch 2 games instead of 3 in the afternoon.

New York fans are already used to that. While the rest of the country got 3 games in the afternoon slots, because the Giants and Jets can't have games opposite them, we would only get 2.

I believe that's an NFL rule. Anybody in a market with a team has to put up with it.

Is it possible for a game to end 75-0? The Texans may help us find out.

The DirecTV forums are full of people screaming about this. I get about 30 seconds of game, then it completely locks up and I have to reboot the receiver. It's apparently something to do with the Scoretracker popup interfering with the receiver. Can't even talk to tech support, I get a busy signal or it hangs on me.

The SD receiver works, but I would kind of prefer watching football on the big TV.

Wow, that is pretty awful for a $50/month service. I'm sure they will get it worked out- DirecTV has some very good customer service.

Sunday Ticket HD working perfectly fine here. Switching between Jaguar game and the one true Red Zone Channel.

Found a temporary fix, for anyone else affected; when you go to the channel, hammer the Exit button and that keeps the Scoretracker thing from coming up. Stay on one channel, it works fine. That being said, I have Sunday Ticket so I can switch between games.

Regardless of what DirecTV is offering, I will be calling up to yell at somebody; after 12 years, I need to burn some Loyal Customer Points and get something out of this.

Their online streaming service was broken for three or four weeks last year. That rather bothered me. So, don't necessarily expect this to be fixed immediately. Oh, and their forums are horrid or at least were last year. Landshrk says their customer service is good, well their online customer service is nonexistent.

Edit: And damn if it doesn't feel good to have football back.

They will make it right- I'd go in asking for your full season of Sunday Ticket to be covered- judging by my experience with them, you will get it if you threaten to switch services over it.

Lions beating up the Bucs offensively (according to Twitter reports anyway)

/blackouts suck

Ravens for 2!

Wow.

Yeah, this is now going poorly for the Steelers. Very poorly.

Edit: Followed by a stupid 4th down run. You take the 3 against the Steelers.

Loving this Bears game so far! Noticed no one else seemes to be mentioning it though.

Wow. The Ravens are really taking it to the Steelers.

Yeah, but the Bucs are still in it. As a life long Lions fan, I'm understandably pessimistic.

Freeman is my fantasy QB though, so I'm torn...

Another turnover for the Steelers. 7.

Hoping for one more before the bell.

This is not going to be a pretty season for the Chiefs. Injuries are piling up, and today was about as easy as their schedule was going to get. Ugh!

Well, with the Saints loss and the ATL loss today, at least the Bucs aren't behind in the NFC South

Let's hope for that Carolina loss later today!
