Glitch

I know nothing about this game other than it has a webpage: http://glitch.com/ and that I have been invited to be in the beta or somesuch. Anyone have any info on this game (I have no idea how I signed up to get email from them) and why a person should want to play it?

The most help I can offer is to bump this.

I've heard of it, but don't remember anything.

I played a couple minutes many months back. Best I could tell (remember) is that it was a resource-driven, item management, online browser, 2d world-building, pretty crazy, Farmville time management, thing-a-ma-bob.

Now find out if I'm right. G'night.

Hi folks,

i just started checking this game out and i think it looks pretty neat. Cyrax basic description is fairly accurate. But it also seems surprising deep especially for a browser game. Ive just played it for about half an hour so far. The art style is nice, VERY low system requirements of course, and its pretty funny i think. It also has a skill training system ala Eve Online.

This is the only post here ive seen mentioning the game. Are there others? I'm not real familiar with the site here, tried searching for it but I don't see much beyond a very basic forum search option. Anyone else try playing this game? I think others might want to check it out. Apparently it is still very much in a real beta. The game is only online for a few days at a time with more downtime in between.

I'm in the beta. They seem to go down every week from Sunday until Wednesday or thereabouts. It doesn't really do it justice, but if I had to sum it up quickly: it's kind of farmville meets little big planet.

Keita Takahashi signed on recently. So it has that going for it.

Pro-tip for anyone starting out: save up and get some bags/toolboxes/containers, otherwise you're going to be super frustrated with the initial inventory size.

edit: oh also, Keita's been blogging his experience at work.

Seeing Takahashi's now involved has certainly raised my interest a hundred-fold.

Wow. This looks quite interesting. Definitely on my radar hereon out.

I can get two people into the beta with invites if you like (pm me). But I also think if you sign up to be in the waiting list, you can just skip the wait and get yourself in right away. Need facebook though.

If y'all are already in/join up, link yer profiles so we can be buddies.
This is me.

Just a heads up. While the beta is still ongoing, the last reset has taken place, so any progress you make gets carried over to the game proper.

I keep meaning to check this out and keep not doing that.

It's down right now, word is it'll be back sometime tomorrow.

I joined the beta a week or so ago but I can't seem to get it to run. There's errors all over and not one second of actual play time...

Official launch today, apparently.

Trailer here. Wondering why the crows attack the screen at the end... then again if Takahashi is involved stuff that doesn't make any sense is par for the course.

There is a lore/overarching plot thing to do with the crows (they're called rooks in-game), but it takes fully leveling up particular skills

Spoiler:

the meditation line

before you get the bit of exposition that fully explains any of that.

I am still interested in this. I'm not that I see why it would be fun, but I do have some interest in peeking around in the world.

Checked it out and it didn't do much for me. It was highly repetitive and I didn't get any sense oft he large picture of why I was doing anything (though I get a sense that there might be some larger picture just from reading about it). Rock Paper Shotgun has an interesting write up about if for any who may be interested.

If anyone's playing, my name is Rathskeller ingame, friend me up. Normally this is not the kind of game that would appeal to me, but for some reason I find it oddly compelling.

Just as a counterpoint to the largely negative RPS article, Jenn Frank is pretty positive.

Odd, I really didn't think RPS was negative. It seemed clear that the impetus of playing on the multiplayer and the last bit was negative (just sitting there looking at screens), but I felt most of the real estate in the RPS actually was positive.

It's cute, the writing is clever, and it's certainly no worse than any of the Facebook game silliness.

The quest system is a little odd, and the game seems to be lacking in mid-level and high-level goals. There are hints of something bigger (offensive/defensive skills), but as far as I can tell, they're just placeholders. The vast majority of play is crafting and exploration, gated on time/energy, in combination with wait-times for learning skills. It feels a little like "game tax."

If you jump in now, there's a 30-day free subscription. I do like that most of the subscriber perks are purely cosmetic.

Oh, and I'm "Itsatrap" in-game, although I'm not on much these days.

Yeah I don't know how it will hold up over the long run, but so far there has been a steady stream of silly little rewards for doing just about anything. They kind of hit that "ding" button in smaller more frequent servings. I just find it kind of relaxing to play, I think if you are a real goal-driven player you will probably burn out quick on this game, or become frustrated with time-to-learn on skills or other things. But it gives you a variety of little things to do, cooking especially is broad and deep and for some reason I find it really enjoyable to just grow crops, gather ingredients, and make food. The aesthetic of the game is just silly and chill and the social aspect is relaxed but intrinsic to the experience. I would almost say in a way it feels like a 2D multiplayer Animal Crossing - it hits those same kind of laid back buttons for me.

Decided to give it a look. Londonderry in the game. I don't know if it's going to stick, but I'll probably explore for a while.

I think I've friended anybody who's mentioned their username. If y'all need anything and see me online don't hesitate to IM as I'm reasonably high level/well-stocked.

This is looking fun in a relaxing way. I've friended some folks. Same name as here.

Been playing for a few weeks now. I found the initial experience very additive. Played pretty heavily for about two weeks.

Now that I have a house and unlocked some of the high level skills there is definitely a lack of next goals to drive me forward. Still it is very worth the time to jump in.

I think it shows that an MMO without combat is totally viable. And the web integration is revolutionary. Being able to select skills, post auctions, etc all from any web browser is very cool. I found myself logging in a lot from my iPhone and it really helped keep me engaged with the game.

Do you still play, if so, what's your username? Search for "sapman" didn't turn up anything.

First, KT, now Robin Hunicke (of thatGameCompany/Journey/Flower). It's like they're playing pokemon with arty game devs.

I'm just waiting for the new home upgrade to roll out.

after going into the game during beta but not doing much I have started playing it more lately.
At first it didn't make any sense to me.
Its very silly.
But I am enjoying it in a low commitment kind of way.
my name in game is:
Idreama

So, Glitch got unbeta'd (again), and I received my invite to the game a couple of hours after signing up, so the wait isn't long if you want to try it. I found it via this reboot announcement post on Boing Boing! My character name is 'Sir Mixolyde' (Sir Mixalot was a suggestion).

The game is interesting, I don't know how long it will hold my attention, with the lack of explosions or spaceships and all. But, it has interesting puzzle mechanics that may surprise me.
