Hard Reset - Coming September 2011 - Catch All

Remoted in to my home machine and started grabbing the demo for when I get home. Lots of stuff to try out tonight!

I thought the exact same thing. It reminded me of an older DVD when they were just learning how to do all the stuff with their menus, and all the transitions were mini-videos in and of themselves.

Finished the demo - I am *SO* flippin' sold on this.

Definitely too long - but you can change everything in-game as well which is much better.

Ironically, the IN-GAME "upgrades" menus are some of the best I've seen

I agree about the menu animations. Needless, and mildly annoying. I don't get why designers think this stuff is cool. That said, if this is my biggest gripe about the game I'll be a happy camper.

Money spent. I got teased with a flurry of achievements but they didn't seem to stick. I guess they were easy enough to get if they don't pop up with the full version.

I never paid much attention to the UI unless it sucks. But this is the first time I went 'Ooo, this in-game menu UI is snazzy, functional and smooth'. I actually looked forward to using it again in the demo! Weird.

Oh and the game or demo is bad-ass. I thought blowing up robots? Again? But the destruction you can cause to individual units is great positive feedback. Also I think I saw one of the littler 'bots duck behind a car to avoid the gunfire. I could have been imagining it though.

Well, that was awesome. If developers ever want to know what PC gamers want that's not strictly gameplay related, they can just go look at that game. Looks fantastic, runs perfectly, and there are lots of options. I will be buying it.

I enjoyed the bit I played. I really liked the in-game interfaces, to upgrade weapons and flip switches. It seemed much more fluid than having separate menus that took you out of the game.

Well the demo looks great. I loved the city design and the two weapons have a nice feel to them. I liked how instead of getting multiple weapons you just get "upgrades" to the two base guns. This one just moved onto my "buy" list.

Seriously considering buying this now that I've played the demo.

Combat was responsive with good feedback, the graphics are pretty but not mind-blowing, I really dug the weapon(s) feel and the destructibility of stuff was surprising. I was caught off guard when I almost blew myself up with a car.

Since I won't be purchasing MW3 and probably not BF3 (no Steam) and a slew of console games (PC is my platform) like Uncharted, etc, I should have some spare money.

I tried the demo too this morning before heading to work, wow, this game plays and looks great! Will probably prepurchase this on Steam and get the 10% discount (it's 25 euro's now).
Tried the ingame benchmark (to be found under 'extras'), for those of you with a somewhat 'older' system, it runs great on my pc:
AMD Phenom x3 2,8GHz, 4GB RAM, 512Mb Radeon 4850 ->
1920x1200, 4x AF, 0xAA, everything on High -> AVG 41fps

MLAA available from the ground up, meaning no quality loss on text (unlike when forced by the Catalyst Control Center).

Big thumbs up. This game definitely grabbed my attention, and I seriously dig the futuristic vibe, smashing down them machines.

Also dug the comic-book narrative thing they got going. Only two weapons (even if with 5 different modes) makes me a bit sad though. I really like it when the shock-rifle, the flak cannon and the toxic rifle are so different (UT example).

Definitely keeping this one on the radar.

Same impressions here. Really amazed with the art direction. Could someone help me pin point possible inspirations they had when creating this world of Hard Reset?
I really dig this sort of climate.

I didn't like the voice over of the main character. Or maybe I was too exposed to Adam Jensen and David Sarif recently.

edit: I just looked a bit more into it and I'm completely sold. Pre ordered just now.

The design is pretty obviously Blade Runner (with the floating billboards and the like). The war with the machines and the millions of human consciousness stored in a computer are a bit Matrix-like with maybe some Terminator thrown in.

Looks really good though.

Gotta work on the pile... gotta work on the pile... gotta work on the pile...

...gotta work on the pile only works if you have a pile.
...if you don't have a pile you can't work on the pile.

Oh yes, these are first things coming to mind.
Those cars remind me of Corvega Atomic V-8 from Fallout universe. Some reminiscent of old Batman illustrations maybe?
General feel of Neuromancer book is there. Mad Max, but more dark? And there is a polish RPG system called Neuroshima.
....
This may be it. (I'm finding this out as I type).
'Neuroshima is a Polish tabletop roleplaying system inspired by such films and games as Mad Max, Fallout, The Matrix, Terminator and Deadlands: Hell on Earth. It is currently available only in Polish. The game's motto is "never trust the machines".'

Speaking of the environment, I loved the booths that advertise to you. There's some hilarious stuff if you sit there and listen.

Smart people get a special discount.

And perched.

They had me at "no crouch keys". Lite customization so you don't spend a ton of time speccing, Insane feels hard enough, and figuring out how to make the level work the hordes for you is a treat. The price feels just right.

I really want to see more of these endeavours.

I was pretty skeptical about this but I too am feeling much more positive having played it for fifteen minutes or so. I'm loving the seamless transition between world and the upgrade/terminal menus, really well done. Also the movement and firing just... works. Enemies seem very generic, and it's a mindless corridor shooter... but I suspect I'll pick it up in a Steam sale or something. It played nice.

I guess I had a different reaction than most of the posters. I was just totally bored with it.

Reminded me of Painkiller.

I liked the demo too and will be purchasing it but definitely later down the road. Either when we know how long is the single player or it is on some discount in the holidays - so many good games, I feel bad for these indie guys pumping out very solid stuff out. Not enough cash for all of them at once.

Paradox

Kidding, to each its own, of course. But running around a horde like you're a shepherd dog, gunning down them bots, like slaughtering cattle during a rave?

Can't find nothing boring in that. I just can't!

"reminded me of Painkiller" is one of the main reasons I'm buying Hard Reset.

For those who are concerned about value per hour, the RPS review this morning said it's apparently really short (like 4 hours or less). For me personally, if it's a really good 4 hours (and the review says it is), that's worth the reduced price they're asking. But if you expected an 8-10 hour game, you apparently won't get it here.

RPS said six or seven hours, look at the section where Walker talks about the story.

But in fact the whole thing is over in about six or seven hours...

From the article, it sounds like a blast of a game, since the grievances pointed out by the author don't detract me one bit.

Checkpoints don't bother me, unless there's something I perceive unfair (1 hit kills). However, quicksave can be added via console commands/macro binding.

Story comes a distant second to me, after gameplay, and I found that one super satisfying.

Quick weapon switch isn't bugged. There's a cooldown, so you can't quick switch between guns.

So far, so good

Released today!

I'm surprised that there's not more activity in this thread. This looks to be a great game at a really great price, we need to spread some awareness people!
