FF2011: Official GWJFFL (non-keeper) signup and discussion thread

In a PPR league Mendenhall doesn't make a ton of sense (to me) because he doesn't catch the ball much.

I took him 4th overall in my non-ppr league. I passed on Chris Johnson for him. I'm not down on him, but was surprised to see him go before other backs, like Forte, who will catch a ton of passes.

FWIW I have Mendenhall ranked #7 on my draft board. I like the Steelers this year for nothing more than playing the porous NFC West.

You could make the same argument about Steven Jackson (#8 on my board) as well, though.

My problem is that to me its just a good time. Personally I am not so into football where i am really all that aware of who would be better in a PPR league or not. I play because its fun to watch games i wouldn't normally be interested because i care about some player that i normally wouldn't. I don't mind losing, its still fun for me. On the off chance i make a good pick its usually accidentally. Its not like i have my own draft list or anything. *shrug*

I imagine i am not the only one who plays this way.

Chris Johnson signs contract, will report to camp w/ 10 days to 1st regular season game.

Vindication! (this was entirely expected, though)

Looks for +1 button.

Andre Johnson and MJD are injuries waiting to happen.

In the 3 years Mendenhall has been in the league, MJD has missed 2 games, Johnson 3, and Mendenhall 12.

There you go, clouding everything up with numbers and facts again.

Part of the fun is needling people and saying, "why did you do that?"

Everyone can use a good needling every now and again

There is a difference between one season ending shoulder injury in 2008 and continuous nagging injuries that MJD has.

I am going to file this away for future use.

I am banking on the Titans losing CJ2K for the year early on. I laugh when players hold out, miss most of the preseason, and their bodies aren't in playing shape, and get hurt for the year (See, Jamal Anderson-RB, Atlanta, Week 2 vs Cowboys, 2001 season). And if that happens, my "bad draft" becomes a very good draft with Javon Ringer.

As long as you file this away, too

But there's not a lot of difference between the two. I don't see any teams that won't be competitive, just teams that will need a little more waiver wire help than others.

I have a large number of rookie/young players on my team. Something like 5 or 6? Hey, odds are I get someone productive out of that group. Arian Foster frowns on you betting people get injured. /scolding

Why was I ranked so high Bill? I felt my draft was average for the group.

Continuous nagging injuries? Some filthy Titan fan revisionist history there. He had a nagging injury last year.

And yet, with the nagging injury and 2 missed games, he still outgained a healthy Mendenhall by 201 yards of total offense.

I had you about even with everyone else for starters, but you've got better depth than most.

I guess it really shouldn't surprise me with the shortened preseason/no offseason, but the bench is where I'm seeing everyone having trouble. So when I see decent players on the bench, players that don't have a lot of question marks even if they aren't solid starters, it makes a team stand out.

Flattery will get you everywhere.

Very excited (and intimidated) for this weeks draft!

I recommend a dart board or shuffle board for picking.

I was at Tilted Kilt Thursday and there was a group there doing an old school draft with board, etc. While I recall (back when I was a drinker) that is a fun thing to do there are a couple of positives about online drafting. 1)No noise to compete with. Seriously, we could barely talk to the people at our table with all the noise, I have no idea how they were doing it! 2)Can play with non locals. A friend has a draft where he has to do it over the phone because he has moved and that league does an in-person draft.

Is Tilted Kilt a chain? I've only seen one in Houston before, and your location shows Columbus, OH.

It would appear so.

Tilted Kilt >> hooters

I just want to be sure... There will still be the ability to pick up players on waivers after Thursday within the week, correct? Mostly for Kicker/Defense reasons.

Yes. It is actually not possible for us to turn this off, without disabling waivers entirely.

Thanks! I remembered the discussion in the keeper thread, but not the result.

Although Saints and Packers will be locked 5 minutes (I think it's 5 minutes) before gametime through the next waiver period.

Copied from the GWJFFLK thread:

I wrote:

Waivers process on Thursday mornings (about 5am central to be precise). I noticed that there was a claim that processed in both GWJFFL1 and GWJFFL2 yesterday morning. If you mouseover the claim button on the website, it says that "claims for this payer will be processed in 6 days." Based on the evidence, I'd say you can put a claim in and have your desired players before the start of week 1.

Just FYI.

Reminder...

Have a gameplan for this draft, Grumps?
