FF2011: Official GWJFFLK-specific discussion thread

Initial thought. I'm thinking a 1-stage process with everybody sending me their list to be revealed all at once.

Makes it more exciting in my mind. It allows for people be overly conservative or overly aggressive. And remember, you really can't get screwed by this process, the two worse case scenarios are you keep most of your team and you get a lousy bench but you love your starters OR you throw back your whole team and re-draft them for cheaper and get a superior bench.

Don't forget that folks are generally going to keep players that they can hold on to for less than "market" value...therefore the auction dollars you have are going to be worth less than they would be otherwise, because of that inflation.

Yes, I agree 100%. That's the way I used to do it in my auction/keeper league, it's the least complicated and fairest system that I can think of. IMHO, we have enough "sophisticated" rules already, let's not needlessly complicate this process.

RE: Draft time

10 people have registered their times so far. Here's the list from Most Flexible to Least Flexible (according to WhenIsGood).

I'll try to be accommodating as possible but there's already no time listed that works for everyone (and there are, as I said, still two more people that we're waiting on). Autodraft may work (if you can call that working) for redraft leagues but if you're at the bottom of that list, you may want to start looking for a proxy.

Last comment on it, then I'll shut up, thanks Landshark.

I'm happy to answer any questions. I'm also happy to consider any feedback and suggestions. Though I'm generally happy with this overall formulation, I'd consider tweaks to the algorithms.

- It's not that I disagree with any algorithms, I just don't know what they are. But perhaps I just didn't look at the spread sheet long enough to figure it out.

*notes your unused injured reserve slot*

- He was never put on the IR, hence I could not use it and he took up a slot. If I had been told he would have been at a keeper price of the drafted one, I would have dropped him in an instant.

Grumpicus wrote:

*notes that Elliottx didn't get any "consideration" (by your definition) for keeping Montario Hardesty on his roster all year (though he did make use of his IR slot)*

- If you want to talk about Hardesty, he is another example of how rule changes after the fact hurt me. I had picked him up in week 2, then you took him from my roster and gave him back to Elliot after creating an IR. And as you mention, he was eligible for the IR so it didn't hurt him at all.

Grumpicus wrote:

*notes the ruling that players cut and claimed by the same team in the same week are treated as though the transaction didn't occur*

- I asked about this last year, as you know, and all the response I got was the pick up price would be used. Then apparently everyone thinks it should be 50/50 which is reasonable, now it's just original draft price. Rules kept changing, obviously not intentionally directed at me, but always to my detriment nonetheless.

Grumpicus wrote:

*notes that while I appreciate how active and participatory you are, systems are defined by their rules and the rules attempt to benefit the greater good, and while I'm not encouraging you to do so, if you would prefer to find a different system, Pigpen would probably be happy to run your team for you*

- It's not the rules, per say, that I am upset with; it is how they always are changing from what they originally were. I remember even the draft last year I went in under the pretense of one set of rules and drafted accordingly, only to have them change a week after it.

Least flexible, really? I picked every day but 2 and from the earliest time until 10pm est on each of those didn't I? I don't really want to be up past midnight on a work night for a draft. If you pick one of the two days I didn't select, I'll try to make it, but no guarantees.

I'll probably talk about the other points later but...

As I said, it's "according to WhenIsGood." I'm pretty sure that it's just a descending count of total number of boxes selected but I'm just speculating. I wasn't looking to shame anyone, just provide context for the sort order.

Ok, just so I'm clear on this, are the scoring rules that we are going to be using the ones that are listed on the flea flicker site?

Yes.

FTFY. I've been having trouble logging on, but you let me know when the draft is and I'll roll with it.

That makes 12. Woo hoo!

The draft will be at 9pm central on one of 4 days that are still good (thanks, Lars, for the edit; that made all the difference). The exact day is TBD based on what happens with the other leagues.

You should thank me, I'm going to have to leave my night class early that night just to attend. Just let me know as soon as you can, as I'd like to give my teacher at least a day's notice that I'm leaving early, so as not to anger him.

Truck Driving school is more intense than I remember.

I posted this in the other thread a couple days ago, but I edited my FFL3 whenisgood to remove one day but add two others. I couldn't find the link to do the same in the FFLK one, but it can be considered the same as my FFL3 now.

Draft is Thursday at 9pm Central. Submit keepers to me by Tuesday at 11:59pm Central. I'll reveal the full list some time on Wednesday.

FYI, the draft will be either Tuesday the 30th or Thursday the 1st.

Edit: If the draft is Tuesday (I'm waiting for one more data-point), keeper lists will be due to me by 11:59pm Central on Monday.

Edit2: Draft is Thursday.

Can do. Thanks, Grumps.

I almost forgot; y'all have until draft time to submit a name for your division if you want it to be something interesting. Otherwise, I'll come up with something; most likely, it will be boring.

Coordinate among yourselves, either here or via PMs, I don't care. Then, when you've settled on a name, have all three members PM me the name so that I know it was agreed upon by all.

Yes, this is a fairly optional exercise but it's just one more thing that makes GWJFFLK unique.

Edit: If you can't get your division-mates to agree on something, I'll consider any "suggestions" that are PM'd to me.

Note: PM'ing me your keeper lists is to keep everything on the up-and-up since no one wants to tip their hand early... but on Wednesday, please log in to ESPN and set your keepers to match what you send me so that I don't have to do it for everyone. Of course, you're welcome to set them at any time if you're not worried about everyone seeing who you've picked. Thanks.

And you don't have to worry about this part, either:

It was just easier for me to do it than to keep track of who had and who hadn't.

A lot of unexpected information there... this should be interesting.

Did Blacksheep fail to get his picks in to you in time?

Jolly Bill wrote:

Agreed. A lot of people not kept that I would have kept if I had their teams.

And here I thought I was crazy to keep Megatron, but I think he may end up as good value. I went with the "you keep special players if you can" philosophy, so I'm not surprised to see Roddy White and Fitz being kept.

Also no surprise that top name RBs weren't kept considering how much they went for. Jamaal Charles looks like good value at less than $40.

I was amazed to see some of these guys kept so high, but looking back at my calculations White and Megatron are about right, and while Fitz was kept high Grumps has enough money to play with he can afford to take a little margin on that one. He'll be hard to beat.

garion333 wrote:

And to think a bunch of people were surprised I paid as much as I did for him last year :).

Yeah, and then a half hour later we were all kicking ourselves for our stupidity as we paid more for less.

I said "we" but I meant "I".

I'm not seeing anyone's keepers but my own. It appears to me that ESPN keeps this confidential until the "Keeper Lock Date." If this is the case, a keeper message to Grumpicus could be unnecessary in the future.

A few surprises on players that weren't kept, which makes me happy, since I essentially have to get a whole new team. Quick question: Was Boogle drunk last year at the auction?

I just went in and set mine again. Can you see them now?
