Dev walkthrough of Savage Coast :

"We're relatively certain that doesn't mean anything important..."

Those walkthroughs look good, but I'm a little disappointed in the mechanics. They feel very WoW-like, and I had hoped that they were going to move away from the Tank/Healer/DPS paradigm that's been in MMOs for what feels like forever. The boss fights also felt just like they do in WoW, or any other MMO. The environments and setting look great though. And the ending was interesting, I hope they throw curveballs like that at players more often. I am still adopting a wait-and-see attitude, though I think my wife will like the setting a lot.

My general thoughts about most MMOs and why I don't post as much as I might in this section. It's also why Guild Wars 2 and TERA are the only games I care about. It's unfortunate that TERA seems to have the same MMO base, but the real-time action and art are enough to make me care.

Was about to say you're not going to find much different with TERA, and while it's different to most people used to WoW playstyle what GW2 is going for isnt that unique either.

The big thing(somewhat new) systems they're implementing here are with the skill systems. Even that isnt that uniqe since it still borrows some from GW.

My biggest worry about this game now is that it seems like you'll not have that full sense of acomplishment if you join up late. All the ARG stuff/puzzles will be solved and public knowledge. That may be cool for some, but i know myself and others enjoy the searching part.

These are the first videos that actually piqued my interest.

I may actually sign up for the beta.

When is this due out? The same time as everything else so that it has to compete with SWTOR, D3, GW2, etc?

The other thing I worry about is the gear. Having a flexible skill system does you know good if the stat system is too limiting or the back pack is too small to carry gear sets. (or that gear sets are required at all...)

Dont know the ETA yet. They've been keeping this very close to their chest unlike what they did for AoC. Which is probably a good thing even though its annoying.

I love the style and art.. just not sure how well this will actually end up being in terms of "different" The mechanics look depressingly similar.

I dunno.. I was hoping for something radically different given the "modern" setting. Whacking crap with a sledgehammer looks just off.

Its the premise that is really cool to me. (all wives tales, superstitions and ghost stories are real)

If they really integrate the premise well and it just doesn't become a backdrop or scenery, I could be very interested in this.

In fact, the way the combat is shaping up, I think I'd prefer it if AoC changed its combat to match. Mind you, that is not taking the combat as it stands. But I like the direction I have seen and I think I can see where they are headed once its polished and I like it. Well to be honest, it reminds me of the GW2 combat...

Been slacking on updates on this. We're supposed to get a lot more info from Gamescon.

dev diary on the world/settings

new trailer

Beta registration is live. I retook the personality test to pick a side and ended up with Illuminati. I think originally I got Dragon. Clearly I have went power mad in the ensuing months.

(or it could be that I'm currently reading a supernatural spy conspiracy novel- oh, and playing Deus Ex.)

No wonder the page was very blank when looking while at work. I thought it was "verrrry secret".

Hooray for non-Facebook sign-up!

New Dev Diary video. Focuses on the societies.

Seems like they are letting people do a lot of hands on previews here is the RPS one:
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011...

Massively.com has their own hands-on with the same Templar build.
http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/11...

They go into more detail about the combat system than Adam from rockpapershotgun. However I will say that Adam's writing does make his hands on a far more interesting read, especially when talking about the puzzles.

My feelings about this have cooled over time since the gameplay videos have not been very encouraging and with SWTOR building up. But these pair of previews has gotten me interested again.

There have been a ton of previews out and they have ALL been really enthusiastic about the game.

They will be until beta time. While i adore Funcom and their games i have to admit that they've learned how to create hype on very little. I'm hoping their experiences with AoC will be remembered, but we wont know till people are able to play the whole game.

True, AoC really fizzled out for me at the middle levels.

I pay no attention to your Negative Nancy talk.

Naw just shooting straight. Check my posts on Funcom. I've been called fanboy by some. I actually liked AoC, but the truth is they fumbled it. Just hope they learned from ALL their mistakes.

That said... I'm excited about this game. I want to see it do well. I'm already invested in it. I spent the first 3 years neck deep in the ARG. So in some ways it feels like i've already been playing it.

The RPS article is really selling me on this one. I had the impression that it was a pretty bog standard MMO. This seems a bit different.
