[last update] All games on Steam for free - Hack your account.....

First of all, I am totally against this. But did want to post about it,
as it is quite something.

You can have all the games that Steam provides for free; by just hacking it.
I looked on youtube and there are plenty of videos about it
Talked to someone and she told me her son actually had done that and it really
works. And that's how I got to know about it and that it isn't a hoax either.

Such a shame, as this will hurt developers. Especially the indies.
I really hope that Valve can clamp down on this and fix whatever loophole that
is being abused.

-------------------

Update
I asked Certis if I was allowed to post the link that showed a way that was actually working.
His response was that piracy and links towards these things are not allowed. And I see
merit in that.
Noticed the thread got closed as well.

Given how they dealt with idlers in TF2 I bet the hackers are in for a nasty surprise. Especially when the hack is so available and therefore easy to figure out the loophole.

Is it extremely easy? Otherwise what's the difference between this and pirating games the "old fashioned" way? By what's the difference I mean, what's the difference in impact to developers/Valve?

Indies have a great platform in Steam. Exposure and ease of pay. Only difference down the line, is that indies really depend
on getting paid for every copy. Large companies/developers can take a hit easier.

And there is no difference in old style piracy of course. Stealing is stealing, one way or the other.

I think you misunderstood my question. Is this easier than torrenting games? Is it just a one time hack and now you have access through Steam to every game? I'm asking not because I'm interested but because if it's not easier then it probably won't have any real impact. If it's simple and provides total access...that's really bad.

Yeah, I can't imagine that this will just be allowed to continue. If we've learned from Valve's previous actions, the reason they haven't done anything yet is that they're trying to figure out the most bizarre and hilariously cruel punishment they can.

I think that's the key to it really. There have been cracks for steam games for years, so it's not as though they weren't available before. I'd imagine the new factor is it's coming down from the steam servers, and you're adding a nice bullseye for valve to track you, rather than just torrenting it. The other thing is that Valve have an incentive to fix this, in the interests of the long term viability of their service.

Pirates gonna pirate.

I'd actually would go for that ....

As easy as installing any game in Steam, and you only need to apply the hack once.

Wow. This is not cool. Looking at the Youtube videos, it looks like a one-time deal. Run the hack, drop the files in place, log back into Steam, voila-- all the games are in your library, ready to install. I really, REALLY hope Valve cracks down on this soon.

Yeah that's bad. On the other hand I can't imagine an easier hack to discover and punish from Valve's point of view. Can't be hard to to query all the users who gained every single game on their account in one day.

It's gotta be a password farm or CC info grabber. Just for S&G I Googled it and watched a video. The kiddy runs a little program puts in his steam username and password and it runs a while and you have to do a couple of other things. The kicker you have to have had the acct 2 months and bought at least one game.

That's exactly what it sounds like to me. I did a quick youtube search and this struck me as more of a scam to get idiots to download and install some rogue program that would be more likely to steal YOUR account than to let you steal games off of steam.

Yes, the "if it's too good to be true it usually is" rule. To be honest, anyone dumb enough to try this on a valuable legitimate account deserves what lesson is inevitably coming down the line.

The kicker you have to have had the acct 2 months and bought at least one game.

Sets off alarm bells.

This is obviously a valve plot to get us to buy a single game.

Yeah I hadn't thought about it because I wasn't interested but you're exactly right. The 2 months is there to entice you into using your legit account instead of creating a new account just for the free games.

Good points indeed. Well, I think they have it coming, wanting to steal all the games.
But both are evil of course.

I'm just waiting for the ban wave, and the swarm of "My brother did it. Can I have my account back plz" spam on the steam forums.

I hope Valve charges all the games to the people's credit cards they have on file. That'd be some shock and awe.

I really really doubt there is anything you can do from hacking the steam client that will get you free games on your account. This is a scam pure and simple.

I would never try that on my real steam account. And I wouldn't want all the games on a dummy steam account. Achievement whoring keeps me from pirating again.

Also probably illegal.

I'll just keep my fingers crossed that all of these morons got their identities stolen good & properly. I have no time for thieves.

So I checked out youtube, this scam has been around in one form or another since at least 2009. There is like a dozen different ones to choose from even.

I think this thread needs a title change.

Might I suggest "PLEASE TO PROVIDE STEAM ACCOUNT INFORMATION FOR ENABLE ALL GAME UNLOCK"?

I like how some of the youtube headers add "not a virus!"

All your games are belonging to me!... oh I mean free complete catalog steam games

It's always a good policy to just be honest in all your doings. I'm with Jeff on this.

Sorry, forgot my massive "not being serious" tags.

I just came to post that. Most of the Youtube videos I saw were from last year. If this were a real hack, I have no doubt that Valve would have taken care of it already.

Well, as long as no urine sample is required, let's do it!

Whoops. Stupid Internet discussions.
