Borderlands (catch all)

The best reason to do it is to allow you to change the field of view setting. Playing this on the 360 I am fine, but without the ini change, I get massively motion sick on the PC. Changing the FOV cleans that right up.

hmm ok. I have no problems, even on a 23" monitor. I'll pass for now.

Posted this in the Borderlands 2 thread:

For those picking it up on PC during the deal this weekend, be sure to download this utility to make editing the .ini easily. It actually is necessary. Also, be sure to backup your save files regularly. I've lost loads of progress before because I didn't back up my save.

So, I'll also bring my discussion here (that I haven't hit post over there on):

First I've heard of any issues with the game. But I just got it in the summer sale. I've in the low / mid 20 levels w/ 2 separate characters. Guess I should do a save game backup.

And why would I need to edit the .ini file? The linked thread doesn't really explain why you would want the editor, either.

Well, they have mouse smoothing on for one thing. There are some additional graphics options that you can enable. The gamespy voice chat is really bad. There is an option to set the mic sensitivity in the .ini file (I don't know if the utility lets you adjust that).

I just checked the link on that forum, and it looks like mediafire took down the utility. This is the proper place to get it: http://forums.steampowered.com/forum...

Here's what it looks like:

Assuming my power doesn't get knocked out, I have a lot of time to play XBox Borderlands this weekend, Mixol on XBL.

I'll be playing on this, this weekend. Have to say even though I never finished it. I really enjoy this game.

Do any goodjers still play Borderlands on the PC? It seems the Xbox version is much more popular for a reason I can't fathom.

I've been feeling like I should play some more on PC. Post in this thread or do an announcement in the Steam group next time you want to play, and we'll see if we can get something going.

Some of the DC folks got the DLC on the steam sale. Ukick and I are working through the Clap Trap Robolution.

Dimmerswitch and I finished(?) the vanilla game tonight - on the PC. During our playthrough, we've had Nuean, MyBrainHz, Psych, 4DSwissChees, Sinkwater, and possibly others I can't remember off the top of my head in and out of the game.

So, yeah. there are Goodjers playing on the PC.

Am also still playing. Need to finish the DLC. But didn't have my old character anymore. So started all over again.
Will finish the game first, then start the DLC part.

I've been getting back into this on xbox. Mainly doing 2nd PT Claptrap grinding but I also need to finish a angelic ruins larger tourney for the achievement. Otherwise, I'd be willing to help someone out if they need it. I'm trying to finish up PT2 so even non DLC would be good. I've been enjoying playing so if anyone sees me on feel free to send a invite or join in my game. Mainly playing a 62ish siren.

Is it possible to hook up for coop without using the ingame friend system?
I uninstalled to reclaim space and that friend list was painful.

I'd reinstall if I could find GWJers to coop with easily.
Edit: PC version.

I don't believe so. What we've been doing is hooking up through Steam chat first, and in-game someone will host and send invites. Need to friend in-game, first, of course. We also use Steam voice chat and turn off the in-game voice.

Kind of clunky to get all set up, but it seems to work well once that is done. We occasionally have problems sending invites; GameSpy sometimes seems to have problems deciding when people are on-line, but other than that, I'm not aware of any problems once we get everyone in the game.

Oh, also, that config file editor doesn't work for me. Not sure why, but most of the options are disabled.
Such a diamond in the rough.

The Xbox version is fine and I always found it much easier to get in a group and play with voice chat than dealing with the PC version/firewalls/port fowarding/voip/

Nice, update adding steamworks and hopefully getting rid of gamespy.

Sweet!

I really wish some company would devise a system that made all that easier.

Edit: Looks like Gearbox just figured out that someone had.

Dammit. I just uninstalled it. /sigh

Edit. Good gravy! Someone needs to teach Stephen Totilo to write in English.

That's more because it is very console-ized and they didn't do that great a job of moving it over.

Awesome.

Maybe I'll finally finish up the last DLC that I never got around to before.

I keep meaning to play Borderlands again but never seem to get around to it. Maybe the addition of Steamworks will help.

I may actually try multi player again once the whole steamworks thing goes through. I could never get voice chat working with gamespy.

So how do you actually fix the FOV? I've tried the INI file edits that Googling has led me to, but no dice. I really, really, REALLY hate the default FOV of 60. It's like trying to play the game through a magnifying glass. Would also be nice to change the right-click zoom to a toggle instead of having to hold it down.

'sup peeps. Looking to start in on this with some others, if anyone wants to roll new characters or help a poor n00b along. 360, unfortunately.

the 360's not so bad.

I'll play along with ya Minarchist. AT1point0 on Live.

That utility I listed higher up on the page will do the ini edits for you. They have to use some trickery by binding it to a key, so I've always just lived with the default. If I remember right, anytime you zoom it goes back to the default.

Yeah, I did that (had bound it to F11), but the key didn't alter the FOV in-game.

I tried out that ini editor yesterday and it did nothing for me as well.

I'm up for it. I think PXA and Sally said they were down also. Just send an invite when you want to play.
