GWJ Online Boardgame Group

Sorry guys, I've been away for a week on blissfully internet-free vacation and just got back!

People seem to be in favor of Pandemic for Game of the Week, so that's what it will be. I'll update the OP. 8PM Start time, as usual - I'll be gone again, but have fun!

I'll also update the OP with the Agricola link. Great find! Looking forward to playing some of that.

I'll handle more Steam Invites tonight when I get home, unless someone else gets there first.

I just started up a game of Wallenstein on SpielByWeb

http://www.spielbyweb.com/games.php?...

Game name is GWJ Wallenstein, password is Dysplastic. The game is basically Shogun but with a different map.

What site is Pandemic on?

I'd be up for a little Agricola; I've only played a couple of times (and I'm pretty sure DanyBoy beat me then, too!), but I've been keen to try it again.

I know it's on Brettspielwelt. Not sure about other sites. I went in and "watched" a game on BSW so I could load up the assets.

The BSW implementation is great. Played a little Agricola today. Unfortunately, its a hit refresh to play game, so its quite slow.

Crap! Sorry about the BBCode.

I'd start another but only really want to be distracted from work by one game at a time. I'm sure you'll get some takers if you start one, though!

I've created 2 games of Through the Ages

Game #1 is Myself, Sway and Dreaded Gazebo - I believe that this is the experienced group.
Game #2 is Myself, mudbunny and karmajay - This is intended to be the learning game.

If you need a copy of the rules or a video overview you can follow the links.

I didn't find a video tutorial, so if anyone knows of one, please toss up a link.

I've friended everyone on Steam, so chat me up with questions, and I'm also happy to get on voice chat and walk through rules or any questions.

The BGO website will email you when it's your turn.

Also, the "How to play" podcast has 2 episodes (29a, 29b) on how to play. I am listening to it right now.

Oh yeah, for those interested in playing Tikal, there is one more spot open in the following game:

Game ID - GWJ-Tikal-4
PW - GWJTikal

If there's still room in the beginner's game, I'd give it a try!

Me too!
Never played before but would like to get in on a beginners game.

I probably can't make it due to a football draft tonight, but I wanted to bump this up to hype everyone else. Pandemic is a super fun game, check it yo.

Any ideas of what tonight's games might be?

Pandemic is the lead. Brettspielwelt.

I'll be on around 9P EST

Fun, but punishing games of Pandemic last night. Three games, three losses. It was a total surprise when we lost the second game. We had the diseases under control. I think one had been eradicated, and we had plans for two more. Then, suddenly, we lost. None of us had been paying attention to the Player Card count and we were robbed of our victory.

Any suggestions for the next game?

That's Pandemic for you. Not only do you have to play very well to keep things from spreading too much, you also have to do so very quickly. Curing the epidemics of the world is definitely a rarity.

As for next week, I'd love to do a game of Imperial. It's a great economy game where you can invest, do hostile take overs, go to war with your neighbors, and generally manipulate the end of the 19th century European powers for your personal gain. Plus it's on brettspielwelt.

Rules Breakdown

Sorry, I can't find any videos explaining the rules ATM. I'll be sure to post if I find one.

Pandemic is my new nemesis. I am 0 for 6 now, and I will save the world one day. I do applaud the game maker though for creating a challenging game that is fun even when you lose.

My table went 0-2 and both games lasted about 15 minutes. At least it was easy to learn, disregarding BSW.

Is that game as "deep end of the pool" as it looks on BGG? I'm all for digging into a crunchier game, but I want to make sure it's likely something we'd be able to finish on a Wednesday night. Our initial games of Stone Age were taking a couple hours.

Yes, I was feeling great about that second game of Pandemic (until we lost). I'd love to see a game in which the players win, just to get a feel for the pace and the decision-making.

Still, lots of fun! I'm glad I finally had the chance to play, and thanks to Sway and Yoreel for walking me through the game mechanics.

It's no more complex than say, something like Powergrid. The roundel system presents your options clearly and the turns move very quickly. That said, the game is a bit longer, taking about two hours for the groups I've played with, which were a mix of experienced players and newbies.

I'm definitely down for Imperial! Love that game. GOTW it is.

Is there any zombie or zombie-themed games online?

Just listened to Idle Thumbs.... er wait. That was just wishful thinking. Just listened to GWJ podcast Gen Con-cast about The Walking Dead beta-board game. Sounds awesome.

The Walking Dead Board Game

Hmmm. ON second thought this game I have posted here looks different than the one discussed and the one found on Board Game Geek. What gives?

IMAGE(http://i866.photobucket.com/albums/ab221/Strangeblades/contents-walking-dead.png)

Link: The (other) Walking Dead Board Game

There are two. The one at GenCon is based on the comic. The other one is based on the TV show.

That's the game based off the TV show, which I didn't know existed until just this moment. On the podcast they were talking about the one based off the comics.

Edit: Tannhausered!

While it's not necessarily more complex rules-wise, I think the game is much harder to get a handle on. Instead of controlling a single nation over the course of the game, you gain and lose control over what they do as you invest in them. It's not a mechanic you see often so it can take awhile for people to really figure out what to do.

That said, if I'm free next week I'd certainly be up for hopping in a game of Imperial. It's not my favorite game by any means but can be fun with the right group and I know it well enough to help walk people through it if need be.

Sorry you guys had to wait a day for my first turn, I kept using the email link to go to the game but couldn't set the tile. Finally I realized it was not auto logging me in! I could see the board but not perform any actions!:o
