Deus Ex: H+ Spoiler thread

Pages

Since Deus Ex is the kind of game that generates stories about how you chose to complete a mission, I think a spoiler thread for the discussion of "you have got to see this" moments is a good idea. To keep these spoilers from being too spoiler-y I propose that, rather than use the tag to turn this thread into a sea of white, each post must begin with a number or mission name to denote to everyone what part of the game you will be discussing. That way if I want to talk about Misson 5: Pica Delivery but don't want to hear about Mission 7: Eyeing up the Pyramid I can skip over those posts. For example:

Mission 5: Pica Delivery
I chose the stealthy approach for this mission so I spent some upgrade points on cyber-grease so I could squeeze through the air ducts . . . silenced rifle . . . hacked terminal in the secretary pool . . . taser dart to the neck! . . . plaque on wall congratulating Dr. Harold Denton on his blue ribbon hogs? . . . with a melon?

I can formalize the mission numbering or naming once I have the freakin' game unlocked.

So, whaddaya say? Got a tale to tell?

Not reading, just tagging now.

Alright!

If cyber-grease does not actually exist in this game then I will be greatly disappointed; though not as disappointed as I would have been if you had said cyber-lube.

So I played through the into on the normal difficulty level.

Died 5 times.

Kinda glad I didn't go with my impulse to try it on the Give Me Deus Ex difficulty.

Patience, grasshopper. Find the path, or let it find you.

Yup. The last FPS game I played was Gears of War 2, which while it has a similar cover/combat system, your character is much, much stronger. I must learn to take my time, otherwise I will quickly hit triple digits in deaths.

I was getting my butt kicked over and over. I finally realized that there just had to be another way. Then I started approaching conflicts differently, and the game really came to life.

Yup. I remembered the gas canister, used it, and went from trying to do a firefight, to simply waiting for them to fall over and die.

Basketball. Do it.

Tagged and already replaying the first level, as I forgot to free the hostages lol

Just finished the intro level (stealthed through it all) and watched the cinematic where some credits are shown and physicians are augmenting Jensen to save him/bring him back to life. So far, soooo good. The look, the feel, and (especially) the music. This game officially has its hooks firmly planted in me.

My plan was to use stealth. It truly was. However, it appears that my Jensen is more interested in killing people. However, he let the bad guy at the end of the first warehouse mission go. He really, really wanted to find out who was behind this, and he thinks that he will get his favour paid back later on.

Sad face.

Mission 10, last part, Barrett boss battle tips.

Minimal help:

Spoiler:

Use the environment.
Break LOS.
Keep him confused as to where you are.

Still need help or want detailed info? Serious spoiler, don't say I didn't warn ya.

Spoiler:

As soon as the cut scene ends, break right, get the pillar to break LOS. Toss an EMP or Concussion Grenade in front of him, and grab the toxic gas canister against the wall. Toss the canister at him (be sure to hit him with it) and it will explode. Grab the second canister, hit him again, run across the room, grab the red barrel and toss it at him.

Each time he starts figuring out where you are (watch the radar, his icon will be pointing toward you), break LOS, toss another grenade in front of him, and while he's stunned/blinded, run away. Learn where the canisters/barrels are, it takes about 6 to 8 direct hits to down him. Frag grenades work well too. If you stay in the same place too long, or let him see you running away, then he's start carpetbombing you, which is pretty painful if you are near a red barrel.

Heh... I killed the guy. But not before he killed the hostage. Whoops!

General: Augmentation Cosmetics

I got a few hours last night so I could only afford one upgrade. Has anyone else seen cosmetic changes to Jensen when augs are installed? I swear he has a new little black tattoo thing over his eye on the hex since I bought the stealth sensor package.

Anyone know if his arms get beefier as you boost strength? The Jensen in trailers looks a little broader in the shoulders than my Jensen. (Or maybe I'm playing at the wrong aspect ratio!)

Question from the very start when you first arrive on the scene post-augmentation (this is where your HUD is flickering):

Boss-man wants me to meet him on the heli-pad to go to a facility that's been broken into, but I can't stop exploring the area, reading logs and talking to people! I'm supposed to go talk to the eye-specialist to fix my hud, but I'm taking my time. I've already been admonished a few times with the last one being the cryptic, "While you were goofing around in the lobby the situation has gotten worse!".

Did I just screw myself up on the plot progression (i.e. did it branch in another direction because I took too long)? Can I keep roaming around at my leisure before going to the heli-pad?

Don't know. Will have to try that the next time I play.

At least go get your eyes fixed! There will be plenty of time to sort through the empty pizza boxes in the break room after you stop that obnoxious crackling in your peripheral vision!

Yeah, I'll likely do that.

Damn my "leave no stone unturned" OCD mindset!

Mental note to self - No matter how quiet I think punching through a wall is, it is not considered stealthy. The bad guys *will* hear you.

In the GB quick look, they do mention things turn out differently if you happen to put off getting to the mission. Though I don't know how long it takes for it to trigger.

Spoiler:

Yes - I did the same thing, and most of the hostages were dead when I got there.

Damn. :(

I kept having Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines flashbacks as I played the first city hub.

In both games:

Spoiler:

* I take orders from a boss sitting in the penthouse of a tower.
* I am reborn as if from the dead, but not by my choice.
* The woman responsible for my being there dies right at the start (VTM: my sire, DXHR: Megan gets David to hire me)
* I get driven around to missions that aren't available except via that method, and only during that mission's time in the story arc, by the same person (cab&driver, VTOL corporate jet&pilot)
* I wander around a city hub, doing side missions, and buying/selling guns&ammo from someone that is obviously a criminal (Fat Larry and his Truckomat, The wrecked gas station)
* I can get in and out of buildings/mission areas using a sewer.
* My special powers drain a limited supply of fuel, that I must take care to resupply (blood, energy - but its lots easier to get blood to refuel, WTH can't I buy a candy bar from the vending machines in DXHR?)
* I have a special attack in melee that takes out any minion class NPC (feeding, takedown)
* Guns are effective, but I'm all but unstoppable in melee, except against bosses
* I can go invisible and take down my targets at range or in melee (Obfuscate, invisibility)
* I can bend a person's mind, to get them to tell me things they might not otherwise be willing to do (The social aug, Presence/Seduction/Dominate/etc)

I dawdled too long in the Sarif building. Everyone's mad at me!

The Hive

Spoiler:

In some preview footage I saw part of the conversation with Tong and in that clip the player failed to convince him, but I played it three times and regardless of what I chose he granted a meeting. A bit disappointing, I wonder if the other conversation 'battles' are like that as well. Has anyone here failed one?

First boss fight:

Spoiler:

Well, as I'm doing it stealthily, I neglected to grab a rocket launcher. I managed to beat him after ten to fifteen tries by throwing 2 grenades, a mine, and then a flashbang. Once I snuck into the back while he was stunned by the flashbang, I picked up the shotgun. This didn't work for a few times, but eventually, the grenades he throws half-hazardly managed to kill him on one of my tries. It was actually pretty hilarious and surprising. So yeah, the boss fights aren't off to a good start. At least now I know I need to stock up on grenades or carry a rocket launcher or something.

Or something. You don't any specific weapon to beat the first boss, see my post on that.
