Red Orchestra: Heroes of Stalingrad (RO2)

Hell hath frozen over, two RO2 updates in the same month. Well, this really isn't an update. Most of you probably saw that RPS has a bunch of new screens from RO2. If not, go here.

One interesting tidbit is that they also showed screens from Rising Storm, a RO2 mod that's in development with some "support" from Tripwire themselves. As Quintin Smith says in the article, "That, gentlemen, is a developer doing it right." Agreed. Very cool.

The game is looking better and better. Love the gritty look and feel. Plus getting help from dev's on a mod for a game not even released is impressive!

Also, check this post on their forums regarding the pricing: http://forums.tripwireinteractive.co...
love those guys.

20% off you say? The regular version is only $40. Between that and how they're not shafting the rest of the world, I'm really happy with this company.

Pre-orders are now available now on Steam, currently with a 10% discount. The discount is bumped up to 20% if you have the original RO, and includes instant access to bayonets and combat badges. There is also a deluxe version for $10 extra, which gives you beta access, instant access to 4 weapons, TF2 hats, and KF skins.

No, must...think of the backlog. I am getting a good laugh about those people who are whining how unlock-able items are an unforgivable sin. It's hard to resist 20% off and knowing that they'll be adding actual units and maps in patches.

Aaaand in for the deluxe edition. Stupid, I know, but I had $40 left on a gift card from work, so I figured why not. Basically, with that 20% off I got the deluxe for free. Not going to complain about that.

Purchased. Been playing Red Orchestra since the early UT2004 mod days.

Am I a disgusting person since I spent the extra $10 for the digital deluxe version just for the TF2 hats?

Nope you aren't alone

Cool! More backlog stuff in the future!

I loved playing Battlefield 2 back in a day, and was so excited to finally have a proper sequel come out, but the more I read about it the more I found it being more of a sequel to Bad Company, with its poor command structure, and linear map design, a feeling that was somewhat validated with the Alpha, which felt more like a Unreal Tournament's assault map then a grand battlefield; where it seemed most players cared about high K/D ratios then actually winning the round (hopefully it was just a crappy level design that forced attackers to do a frontal assault with no room for any flanking). I started thinking instead that maybe RO2 was the game that sounded closer to the experience I wanted, at least in my nostalgic memory of Battlefield.

I do have the first RO that I got not too long ago as a nice surprise when I ordered my headphones, but was only willing to try out the maps against the bots (I'm fearing if I went online now I would not last 10 seconds with all of seasoned players). I found a good game but somewhat unpolished. The sequel does seem intriguing though, so now I'm only hoping that being slightly above the minimum requirements will be enough to play it.

I played RO quite a bit, but the frustration level would be quite severe. However, no other game gave me quite the feeling of WW2 combat like RO. Nowadays i play Day of Defeat and love it, but RO will always be my first love. I'm sure I'll nab it at some point.

Delayed 2 weeks to Sept 13th.

Boooo. Oh well, gives me more of a chance to finish Deus Ex.

Now that's disappointing Bright side is a more polished game!

The horrors of war...

I preordered this before I preordered BF3. I'm not sure what to think about that. Is this a sign that I've matured? Or, is it just me whimpering behind my 3 year old box trying to avoid the inevitable upgrade?

Almost makes me want to stump up the cash for the deluxe version right now.

I do so love the exhausted commentary by the developer.

What are the chances of having a GWJ server?

Is there's going to be a solid group playing? I've held off buying because i knew i'd buy deusx, but i'm in some betas and thtas taking all my time

I'll be playing. Got it from greenman for $27 + $5 credit (for being new) with the regular version. I got a lot of entertainment out of the first one.

I doubt we'll be setting up a server. We're only on page 2 for this game, so I don't know if any of us would want to put the money towards it.

As far as group playing though, I think we still need to see how many of us end up with the game. I'm not buying BF3 at launch, so this'll be my mp game and (assuming I'm not done with it) Deus Ex will be my sp game for the next month or so. So I'll be down for swapping out Thursday night BFBC2 for some RO2.

Yes, thoroughly entertaining. Still debating a purchase. I don't think I'm picking up BF3, at least not at launch, and haven't been putting much time into TF2. TF2's item system has slowly been draining my enthusiasm to play the game.

It's kind of funny, EA would like me to pay £40 for BF3 (although it's cheaper elsewhere) and then whatever addon packs are coming out, and Karkand if you don't get the base game at release, and then there's RO2, which is £20 in three weeks. EA/DICE make some nice trailers, which grabs my interest, but then there's the slight bad smell that surrounds EA, it seems like every second thing EA does makes me say "Really?" (and not in a good way). It's an ebb and flow of interest, or like crazy/hot scale.

Tripwire need to make a great gameplay trailer, although I suspect that cynicalbrit video will be better for their intended audience.

Have you seen their latest trailer? It's a montage cut by music ques, but gameplay nonetheless.

Just watched it, quite nice. I think they've done the best looking ruined city in winter I've seen, quite atmospheric. I still love the way they have their scopes too, that only the view through the scope is magnified leaving the rest of the view normal and unzoomed, I don't think many games do that at all, and they've been doing it since the UT2004 mod.
