Judge Rules Against Partial-Birth Abortion Law

wayback machine (back before I was ever born)

I don''t have a problem puttin'' down one of my slaves if they''re gettin'' a bit uppidy and malcontentious. They''re my property. They''re no more human than a dog is. Better to put ''em down now rather than risk more damage to my property than they''re worth. They''ve got no legal rights. I can do with ''em as I please.

Fictional analogy only, to make a point. We should not think of a person in this manner. This is brutal, dehumanizing and ignorant.

Our assessment of the individual significance of a person and how deserving that person is of life should presume innocence unless proven guilty. Is that not the way of our legal system? In the case of an unborn child, what has this child done that is deserving of death?

I would think that even being the offspring of a rapist and having done nothing of him/herself to play a part in the trauma to the mother other than existing, growing, and putting the mother through childbirth does not constitute a justification for the enforcement of the death penalty.

Ah, but is ""it"" a person, a human being? Be careful not to base your classification on government granted citizenship, legal status, or the supposed protection given by the state.

If you''re talking about an 8 month old fetus that most likely could be born prematurely right then, I''d probably call it a human, if it were indeed developed enough. (I''m by no means a doctor). As I mentioned before, I''ve heard quite a few definitions for ''human'', and I''m not quite sure which one is accurate, so for now I''ll use the ''grown enough to survive premature birth'' standard.

If you''re talking about a 3 week old embryo, then I would have to disagree. It needs more time to cook, as it were.

Sometimes I think this is how pro-choice people justify abortion. They turn the baby into a cake or a roast or something non-human in their mind so they don''t feel so bad about saying it''s ok for them to be murdered. No matter what you call it, it is a human life that will turn into a full grown adult like you and I without intervention or health complications.

Uh, actually, that isn''t statistically possible. Some babies ARE born with health complications, and I know as a human adult I have all kinds of health complications. Maybe you mean the fetus might turn into a full grown adult like you and I.

He''s talking about health problems to the mother or fetus which would endanger the pregnancy. Also, adults with health problems are still ""full grown adults.""

I''m just clarifying.

I''m just clarifying.

No, you missed his point. Tobyus is saying that without harmful outside intervention or medical complications, the unborn child will be born and grow into an an adult. He is stating that a fetus is no more a ""potential life"" than a two yead-old. Fetus, infant, and adult are all the same thing - different stages of human life.

I didn''t miss his point. Thanks for the reading comprehension lesson though, however misplaced.

Haha, I was wondering when someone would notice my new sig

Score! nice sig

Score! nice sig

Thanks! I was wanting to have the date and time stay current, but I don''t know of a simple way to do that unless Pyro could add a date/time tag to the available BBCode

Edit:
And to get back on subject, thanks Ral for clearing up what I was trying to say, and sorry Dr. Ghastly if my wording wasn''t clear enough.

might as in 97% (or at least the statistics show only 3% the possiblity of health issues). If offered a 97% chance of winning the lottery would you take it?

I probably shouldn''t stir the flames around here, but I don''t think Ral was out of line there. I, too, thought you missed the point from the responses you wrote, hence why he was further clarifying, and without being insulting, to boot.
