Bastion Catch-all (now coming to iPad)

Yeah, Pike was the only one I haven't finished, due to pure annoyance.

Got the demo, kept falling off the edge of things. I wish I wasn't such a spaz.

pistols challenge is easy (on 360 at least*) if you

Spoiler:

1) take the tonic that makes you crit when low on health
2) don't take the tonic that gives you health when you deal damage
3) roll yourself off the edge of the world a few times to get your health low before starting the challenge
* 4) start firing when you hear the audio cue instead of looking for the target because you autotarget and don't need to direct your aiming at all.

The challenge confunding me is the damn Machette challenge. There's no way to kill everything in 90 secs!!! They can fly off the damn map and throwing the machette misses moving targets 1/2 the time.

Anyone have any advise?

You did get great advice on hacking up most of them as they spawn right at the beginning, but another bit that helped me: there is a machete upgrade that lets you throw two at a time, and they split slightly when you do, so you are covering a wider area and more likely to hit a distant moving target. That can save you a few precious throws.

For most of the challenges, there is usually some upgrade that helps either a little or a lot. (I'm pretty sure that the final challenge requires that you have the weapon fully upgraded.) And often certain tonics help. (Like with the shield challenge: you want the tonic that upgrades counterattack damage, of course.)

I think it is very safe to say this is probably going to end up being my favorite soundtrack of the year by a long shot.
Especially "Build That Wall (Zia's Theme)" and "Spike in a Rail".

Highly recommend grabbing the soundtrack version.

For sure. I *love* 'Mother, I'm Here (Zulf's Theme)'.

I don't know why but I found the Hammer challenge really easy. Once Understood how to do it the Machete challenge was easy as well. The shield challenge is killing me, though.

Do you have that tonic that doubles your counter damage? It helps a lot.

OOOOOOHHHHH. Good idea. I'm not very far in the game. I'm completing the challenges as I come across them. I've finished the machete, breaker's bow, hammer, and fanged repeater. I have the scrap musket and shield available but not completed.

How is this on the PC?

If you have an Xbox controller, it looks and feels fantastic. I haven't tried the mouse and keyboard control yet.

hmm...?

Saw a Bastion tweet - they just patched the WASD controls for the PC version (obviously). Not sure how it was patched though.

Yeah, you should one-shot everything except the last giant Scumbag. This is a challenge you have to be prepared to lose a few times as you learn the timing, but it's also one of the best for actually usefully developing your skills because you'll get better at blocking/countering in the real game.

You also probably already figured out that in some of the hairier parts with multiple cannons and enemies, you can put your back against a wall, hold the shield up, and let the cannons whittle down some of the foes. And if you are getting near the end and nervous, you can just stand there reflecting bullets and eventually the cannon will wipe itself out.

Hopefully they made it so that you can head diagonally easier. For example, holding down W and A should hopefully make you head to the upper left.

And if there are multiple turrets, you can always try to line them up so one turret shoots the other. One less stream of bullets to worry about.

I asked him on Twitter and he replied "It's one of the secret skills on the PC version for new game+".

Man, I just upgraded my Pike to the maximum level! It's so awesome now that it's almost like cheating. Oh, you've got armor on your face? Too bad (Stab------->Crit! Dead!). Might be time to invoke some gods of peril.

I upgraded the repeater as well and, while pretty powerful, it's just not very satisfying for me. I think that the auto aim and homing bullets just make it a hold the button down and watch what happens weapon that I have no control over, which makes it not as fun. I'll probably try upgrading the Carbine or Mortar next to go with my Spear of Annihilation.

All in all, I'm having a blast with the game. It's my favorite game so far this year from a cost to fun perspective.

Really? Aweseom, because they sucked hard (And it won't autodetect a USB joypad. Xbox controller or nothing)

I tried the demo, loved the contextual narration, the title music is neat, but I think I'll wait, *not* for a Steam sale, but for my pile to be smaller.

I wish more games had this narration tech, and would love to see these guys do a TV season premier style "last time on Bastion" to mitigate the old RPG problem of picking a game back up after a while away.

11:32Bastion Update Released
Product Update - Valve
Updated the default "Slinger-style" WASD controls to make the character move relative to the isometric perspective.
Note: In the previous update, this required using a commandline parameter "-isomovement", which is no longer necessary. To restore the original setting, use the new commandline parameter "-orthomovement".
In-game menus now respond to right-clicking as well as left-clicking.
Added support for resolutions greater than 1920x1080, at which visual issues with the background visuals could occur.
Fixed several issues that were causing the game to crash for some players.
Fixed an issue in Burstone Quarry that could cause players to get locked out of the level's final area.
Fixed an issue in Mt. Zand that could cause players to get locked out of the level's final area.
Fixed an issue in Zulten's Hollow that caused the level's weapon pickup animation not to play.
Fixed an issue in the Bullhead Trial where the text stated that the Gold Prize requirement involved completing the trial having taken less than two hits instead of three.
Fixed an issue causing the opening splash screens to overlap when running the game using the "-nofixedstep" commandline parameter, which unlocks the frame rate.
Fixed a rare issue where weapon slots at the Arsenal could become unselectable.

Just finished my first playthrough. Definitely warrants a second playthrough. I've got to try other weapons as I ended up almost always using

Spoiler:

dual pistols and the flame thing

For the entire last portion of the game.

Use X360CE to fake one.

The easter egg...

...is pretty damn cool.

Making me want to double dip.

That is so cool!

Whoa, that is awesome.

So, I haven't finished quite yet, but I have a couple of comments. Now that they've fixed the keyboard controls so that you can walk diagonally, the mouse/keyboard setup is awesome. I don't think I have a reason to go back to the 360 controller now. I sorta cheated with the dual pistols and setup a hold down button macro for right mouse button... cheap yes, but soooo satisfying.

Ta! I had completely forgotten about that.

I wish I loved this game as much as some other people did.... There was nothing in particular I didn't like about it, it just didn't suck me in in any way. :/ I still finished it and enjoyed it though.

Happened by accident, but when playing my soundtrack in iTunes, I looked it up for someone on Youtube.
Bastion Soundtrack - Build That Wall (Zia's Theme), this song was being played at the same time on iTunes and
Youtube and it really sounded great!
