So Terrell Pryor has been suspended...before the supplemental draft...for things he did at Ohio State. The Commish is back, baby.

He's trying to run from his problems. I'm glad he got hit with a suspension. If the leagues doesn't do something, then that just opens the door for more people to do it

That's what the supplemental draft is for; people who leave college for odd reasons. Frankly, if they're going to suspend Pryor based on NCAA rule violations, make it consistent. I can only imagine every U of Miami alumnus will be suspended for multiple games, right? I mean, if you think a player should be disciplined for college rule violations, shouldn't it be consistent across the board?

Suspending Pryor is ridiculous. Many players have left for the NFL because of rules violations, eligibility issues, or loads of other things, and they haven't been suspended.

"The league informed clubs that Pryor “made decisions that undermine the integrity of the eligibility rules for the NFL draft.” Among those, the league said, was his failure to cooperate with the NCAA and hiring of an agent in violation of NCAA rules."

I'm not sure the NFL can suspend him for stuff he did in college but if it conflicts with NFL rules, they can hit him. And he deserves it. Not only as a player but as a person. I hope the Dolphins draft him and him and Lebron go nuts in Miami together. :p

Ah, but they're not just suspending Pryor; they're suspending him for five games, meaning they're carrying the NCAA's penalty forward quite explicitly. As for "eligibility rules for the draft", Tressell left at the end of May, Pryor shortly after, which is well after the NFL Draft. At that point, Pryor had the option of (A) sitting around for a year or (B) going into the Supplemental Draft.

Pryor is a cheating douche, but I suspect a large portion of college players are cheating douches, and none of those previously caught having accepted benefits have been suspended for any reason. Now, you can argue that Pryor was planning on leaving school this year and skipped the NFL Draft on purpose, but the timing of things suggests otherwise; he didn't leave OSU until Tressell was gone and the bottom fell out, at which point he had no other options. Add to that the fact that the NFL is suspending him for the very curious number of five games (equivalent to the NCAA suspension), and this is really, really suspicious. Again, if this is a precedent that the NFL will suspend players based on NCAA allegations, then it needs to be consistent and NFL players better start getting suspended left and right.

Just pass a rule that a player under suspension in the NCAA will also be suspended in the NFL. I think it is a fair policy, no matter how unfair it is being implemented right now.

Agreed. A blanket rule would be fair. As it stands now it looks like Pryor is getting singled out when lots of other cheaters get off free.

Reggie Bush's heisman is gone and USC is on probation, but he didn't miss any NFL games. And that was just the first one to come to mind, plenty of other cheaters out there.

I didn't know that Mr Goodell was allowed to convince players where to sign, I don't believe that's in his job discription.

Mr. Goodell and the NFL has some explaning to do. Vick can rant all he wants that it was his decision and his alone, but this does seem fishy. Make you wonder how many other times a player was lead to a team by the NFL.

Definitely, Palmer was still the man there. Buffalo hasn't had a good QB since Jim Kelly.

*EDIT*
I agree with the ESPN article, that Vick would not have started ahead of Carson Palmer in 2009, but I think plenty of Bills fans have the right to be very pissed off at Mr Goodell.

On a side note, it took me 4 days after proclaiming I was boycotting the NFL that I caved and welcomed it back with open arms. Of course, the NFL ended the lockout the very same day

Talk about hindsight. If you would have polled fans in either city I would guess better than 90% would have wanted nothing to do with Vick. Which was exactly the same feeling in Philly. We wanted nothing to do with him firmly convinced that Kolb was groomed as the future. And guess what it might still yet blow up in our faces. One year doesn't make a career. This year will tell us a good deal more about QB Vick 2.0

Vick's really improved as a pocket guy (it wouldn't have taken much, compared to the Atlanta days), but he still gets hit an awful lot. 31 is relatively young for a QB, but he's a QB who still pretty regularly gets the snot beaten out of him, so he's got some "RB-ish damage" on him. It's going to get harder and harder to get up off the turf as time goes by.

It was nice to finally hear some reporters call out Vick instead of the constant media praising of him for years.

Forgot to mention it here the other day, but I think it was last week's Sports Reporters, they were discussing all the "superteam" Philly stuff, and one of them wondered why so much focus is on a QB who has only won one playoff game in all these years?

Been saying the same thing myself for a long time when everyone talks about how "dynamic" he is or some other BS. The only thing that matters is winning, more importantly playoff winning, and in that regard Vick is a loser.

And with all that superteam nonsense he's sliding right into the LeBron role for this season. Going to be fun watching him lose.

Yes, hindsight for Buffalo fans, and I agree with your point. That still doesn't excuse the fact Goodell is telling suggesting to a free agent where to sign. Now the question that needs to be asked is, has he done this before, and what is HIS punishment, if any.

I think this quote says it all:

In Vick's opinion, his redemption would not have been successful in those cities anyway.

That was exactly my thought when I read Kush15's post. I saw a video (documentary?) about Vick's comeback a while ago and he specifically cited what a good influence Andy Reid was on him and how important that was in his comeback. I don't find it hare to believe that smart people like Goodell foresaw this as well and advised him in that direction. I highly doubt that anyone forced him to go anywhere but have no doubt that Vick received plenty of opinions, both solicited and unsolicited.

Wow, glad to hear Maclin is doing well. I visited my parents this weekend and we were worried what was going on, since facts were hard to come by. No wonder they kept it quiet, a cancer scare would cause half the city to panic.

True, but it's also opinion, one can never tell how and what would have happened if he signed with Buffalo. Granted, I agree with him that he probably wouldn't have been as successful, but at the same time, I don't think it's Goodell's place to suggest where a player should and shouldn't sign. Vick's got enough people telling him that. And the only reason I am being ultra tough on Goodell, is because he is ultra tough on what players do, and should really be held by the same standards.

Ugh, its preseason but Pats embarrassing the Bucs.

Crap, there's football on. And I was playing [b]BFBC2.

He sounded like that for the All-Star game too. So, hopefully.

I'm definitely still in the skeptic's column on Vick. His performance skyrocketed in the first third of the season, then followed a gradual yet steady downward glide from there. I think the expectations for him may well outpace the reality, although partly because those expectations are at ridiculously high levels.

I'm pretty sure he was suffering from some kind of bad throat infection. If it had been surgery for some kind of tumor, then you'd guys would look like dicks. Lucky you two.

Couple points.. It was Vince Young who proclaimed them the "DreamTeam" not Vick... the only people trying to make this a big deal IS the media. There isnt a single player or coach on the Eagles (or any Philly fan) that is continuing to carry on this Vince Young proclamation. From your post it doesnt sound like you actually need any more reasons to dislike Michael Vick so why bother trying to continue to hype up something said by a loser backup QB that no one really even cares about?
