Horrible news stories Catch All

Pages

This is just horrible beyond belief, whether or not you have kids. That poor family.

Not safe for those prone to nightmares.

That's pretty bad. I am curious though, why did she not call the 911 equivalent? I'm guessing shock?

OMG, that's awful beyond comprehension.

Shock most likely.

I've heard that this is becoming a problem in Eastern Russia. I read an article about a large group of bears overpowering power facility security and eating everyone.

That's like something from a horror film, just horrible.

I'm horrified by the thread title. No freakin' way I'm clicking on that link.

Awful.

This.

There are too many things on the internet. At the least, one too many.

Maybe we can make a "Horrid things you don't want to read" thread?

I avoid the mainstream news sites because I really don't want to hear how sh*tty human beings are to one another, or the horrible ways they die. I realize a certain percentage of people really enjoy the whole "watch the train wreck" bit, but I'm not one of them. Just reading the (overly thorough and descriptive) thread title was enough to spoil the end of my dinner.

I'd support this. This is the second one of these I've seen on here today. There's lots of real-world horror out there for those who want to read about it. Concentrating it into one thread would help folks avoid it if they don't come here for such stories.

My day ain't so bad.

Reminds me of the story years ago about the guy who was studying bears, I think it was in Alaska. He had become familiar with most of the grizzlies in the area but both he and his wife were killed when a rogue bear came to the river where they were camped. I think they've got the entire audio on their camcorder. Bears aren't natural "maneaters" but if you get between a mother and her cubs or surprise them you can be in a world of hurt.

We had a black bear walk through camp this summer. He/she got into the cafeteria and shredded the coffee machine then took a huge dump by the showers. There were probably 400 people in camp and no one ever saw him/her.

That's really really sad. Looks like she survived being eaten, and got one last call in. Well, I'm not sleeping tonight.

Seriously, can you change the thread title? I really really really didn't want to know that. I come to this forum for light and bubbly, not this crap.

Way to save this thread: Have everybody try to invent a 100% fictitious headline more depressing/horrifying than that actual headline.

Future Bear Feces Speaks From Dinner Table: "This Time They Didn't Forget The Gravy"

*edit
oh you said "more depressing"

I'm not going to click the link, even though I'm posting in the thread. Anyway, I'd argue against having a 'horrible things' thread, since it's nice to have a forum where f*cking horrible stuff doesn't get posted frequently.

This isn't working at all. THink of what the rest of the sentence could be:

...have a picnic.

...ride a unicyle and juggle.

...do incredibly cute things.

Thinking about it, your first post takes on a really weird aspect when you imagine what lies after the ellipsis.

Maybe try

Spoiler:

Girl phones mother as bear & cubs... (It gets bad, like, really bad)

That should help a little.

I thought I was having a rough day. Until I visited this thread.

Sorry guys, I should have made the title a bit less descriptive. Changed it.

edit: fine, you pansies Changed it again.

I think you're referring to Tim Treadwell, profiled by Werner Herzog in Grizzly Man. He believed himself to be protector and friend to the bears, spent several summers camping in their territory, and seemed to be schizophrenic. After some manner of confrontation, he returned with his girlfriend in the fall when food was scarce, and both were killed.

Dude. What the f*ck.

I srsly hate you.... sleep not happening

I feel sick How awful.

I saw this thread (with the new title not the old) and knew exactly what the post was about. It is just so sad. My god.

Guys, I'm regretting posting this thread. When I read the story I had nobody to discuss/process it with, because there's no way I could go over it with family or real life friends. I'm having trouble sleeping too, and if there's no value in commiserating about this tragedy I (or someone else) can delete it. It wasn't my intention to upset anybody else, I was just hoping to bounce some impressions around, sometimes that's a healthy way to deal with life's horrors.

Am I the only one anticipating a SciFi Channel made for television movie about mutated Russian bears?

To be honest I feel like this thread's existence is justified. A lot of the time these depressing news stories are too grim for the 'Post a website, entertain me!' thread, and too impersonal for the 'Random thing you loathe right now' thread. As sad as it is, I am fine with this existing (though sad that I know the world will make sure it has content).

Yeah, in spite of my negative reaction, I have no problem with this thread existing, and completely understand your reasons for starting it. I just might not visit it much (and yet, here I am...).

I'm fine with the thread. Personally, I'm fascinated with bear attacks and human bear interaction.

Man-eating bears are becoming a problem in Eastern Russia, from what I've read.

A few days ago a man was mauled by mother bear (black bear, I think) after he accidentally got between her and her cubs. He survived and was able to call 911. She was killed. The three cubs were hidden up a tree and are now in a rehabilitation facility. The worrisome part of the story was that t e mother was teaching her cubs how to search garbage cans for food.
