Pandemic/Forgotten Island - Very similar mechanics. Co-operative games where the players are working against the game system. I like the theme of Pandemic better (fighting off diseases spreading around the planet), but IIRC, Forgotten Island's mechanics may be slightly easier to learn and teach. Pandemic as least (don't remember about FI) has the ability to adjust the difficulty.
My 8-year old son loves Forgotten Island. Unfortunately we recently lost two of the flood cards (long story) and are waiting on replacements from Gamewright. Recently introduced him to Smallworld, and he enjoys that as well.
And you can adjust the difficulty in FI by setting the water meter to a higher mark at startup.
Great tips! Thanks all!
So over on SpielbyWeb, there are a bunch of other games that one can play on a play-by-email-type basis. Is there anyone interested in starting up one of those? Are there other sites that allow for it that someone is willing to start up a game at?
Invite to the Steam Group please (link in sig)? I'm going to try and get in this Wednesday with y'all. What's on tap? I like german/abstract games like Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride, Smallworld, Weinhandler, Can't Stop, Pandemic. Anything super complicated with a lot of attributes and chits etc. doesn't really appeal to me (yet?).
Tagging for later. Could I also get an invite to the steam group?
I don't think I'm going to be able to make the Euro timezone games tonight as something has come up at work. Next week! I hope.
For tonight -- note, the Brettspielwelt interface for Stone Age is also excellent.
So what game should I learn quickly before we play tonight? Stone Age?
I'm also joining you guys tonight so I have the same question as carrotpanic.
Stone Age is the game for tonight. I /think/ I get it; I'm looking forward to giving it a shot.
According to the original post, tonight is Stone Age. There's a link to a podcast in the original post. I also linked to a YouTube and the original video on Page 7.
Thanks, guys!
Carrotpanic and I just had an impromptu noobie v noobie (w/ pubbies) showdown. I walked away victorious. The sweet taste of victory. How does failure feel to you, carrotpanic?
Cyrax and I played half of a practice round of Stone Age...it seems really cool!
Edit: Didn't realize Cyrax posted before me. Tannhausered! Also, Cyrax won by default when the game wouldn't let me place my guy or do anything.
Protip: Don't go willy nilly clicking in an area to fill that area up with guys. I think that's what broke the game.
I'm going to miss this week's meetup. Hopefully, I'll make next week's.
Lots of fun tonight playing Stone Age; what a great game!
I just heard about this on the podcast, and I definitely want in on this if at all possible. My steam name is jamiltron. I only have a kind of bi-monthy board game meet up in person, so I'd really like to be able to play some more online.
could I please get an invite to the steam group. Username: mmockus

Two more great games of Stone Age. Neither of my strategies worked. Here's a list of people to avoid if you're looking to join our group.
Really fun game of Stone Age tonight. Long game, but never bored. Multra took it with a landslide victory for his first game.

If this was a team game, we'd make excellent village leaders. Our budding cave people would always know exactly what to do. But unfortunately, only one of us could make those moves, and I came before you on the turn order.
But how can you hold that against me after all the fabulous gifts I gave you?
Caveman Santa!
GGs!
I had more fun in my first game where I felt I had more control. With 4 people instead of 3 my moves were more readily blocked, and getting the first turn for the next round was a rare commodity. Game turned out to be fairly close in the end because of multipliers. Grats to Multra and Chumpy for their first game wins, nicely done!
I am a little disappointed Rabbit tried to cheat by reproducing more than 10 workers, but sometimes being terrible at games can tempt the best worst of us.

True, that was one great stick...
Sorry I missed the event last night. Hopefully things will eventually start to stabilize with house work for me and I will be able to make next week.
I'd be down to get another game of Stone Age together again tonight.
Definitely interested, but I don't get online until about 8pm Pacific. Is that too late? Please send me a steam invite. Username Fuzzmaster. Thanks!

If it's at 8pm EST again, sign me up.
