DCS: A-10C Warthog Catch-All

Got 100 pages through the flight manual last night. Getting closer to actual flight!

It's friiiiiiday! Time to hit that training mission again. My goal for the evening is two-fold.

1. GBU on a ship without taking a missile up the exhaust.

2. Aerial refueling. Preferably not running into "Shell" and scattering burning wreckage and jet fuel everywhere.

I may join you guys tonight. What time do you usually meet up?

I'm usually on around 9:30 EST. I may be a bit later tonight because my roommate needs a ride. Nyxs is usually around to get the evening rolling though.

How does the MP work? I've got effectively 0 flight hours on this still, but was about to start tooling around. Can I participate in the world without effecting things or does that fill spots or what? May be moot as I'm not for sure what's going on at the house tonight.

Yup liquid it's basically a central airfield we all take off from, then each waypoint is labeled according to the objective (easy, medium, hard, Ships, etc). There's also a tanker for refueling practice. It's a good way to get some air time and to get any questions you have answered.

So then, dammit Chappy, I can do it my way and just hang out with the cool kids? I also jumped on Black Shark while it's on sale since you can combine these different games. Might be cool to grab LockOn to provide air support too.

Server is up - GWJ Flying Follies - 'goodjer' password.

All are welcome

On private vent server - can give you that info in game if desired.

You'll need Dragon's training pack ... somewhere linked in this thread..

Cheers!
Nyxs

Can everyone make sure they have Dragon's Training pack from this link:

It's only a 4 Meg Download. - Files should end in: ***_V16.miz (I had on older v12 copy installed)

I have mine installed to: ..drive letterDCS A-10C WarthogMissionsDragonsTrainingPack*.miz files

I'm not sure if it makes any difference at all. I believe the *.miz files just need to be somewhere in the Missions folder.

So I joined the MP server, fumbled mostly through a RAMP start, but didn't catch everything and then crashed on take-off. Decided to go back to flight school and go through the start up procedure again. I took off from that and tooled around for a bit, went inverted, but after a few seconds of that my engines died. I went batsh*t trying to do an in-air restart and could sorta get my left engine to spool up but my right never fired, at least until the whole bird fired. Can A-10s not sustain inverted flight?

it actually has a small fuel reserve and a pump which forces fuel for up to 10 seconds of inverted flight. in general you will want to abstain from negative g maneuvers though

Sorry I couldn't make it last night, by the time I finally got all my crap done for the evening it was already 12:30 :/

I'm in for this Friday for sure!

Are Ramp Starts a must for this mission?

This weekend I got stands whipped together for my HOTAS. Desk is a mess right now while I recable a bunch of stuff so I close cropped to help hide my shame. I didn't get the throttle stand painted yet. That'll probably happen this weekend. Folders are my flight manual stuff. Stick stand is 4" pipe, filled with concrete.

FTW Liquid, for the F#$*KIN Win.

Can't wait for Friday.. I'm going to start prepping, but do I need to have ramp starts down?

Liquid that is freakin' awesome. 3 monitors really seems the way to go for sims, wish I could afford it :/

I always use the cheat start in MP because it's pretty fast. You need to tweak parts of the startup though, to make sure if you are taking off before gps is aligned that it is set to align in flight. You can usually get in the air in about 4 minutes.

Thanks Stylez... any hints on how to do that?

Sure, RWin+Home is the keybinding for auto-start. Once you are warmed up and your MFDs are on, you will see on the right side NAV Align or somesuch. It will have a few options, and the auto start defaults to "ground". Just hit the corresponding button to "inflight" and it should allow your nav stuff to calibrate successfully. We ran into an issue where if you take off before aligning your GPS guided bombs will not be in "ready" state, this solves that.

Awesome, thanks!

One more question about Friday.

Is it an ingame server browser? Are we on GWJ teamspeak?

in game server browser, Nyxs has the vent server info. you'll see "GWJ Flying Follies" as the server.

Holy !@#!@ that is a beautiful setup

Damn man, that is simply fantastic.

Ok, finally got about 5 hours of stick time in tonight, even though my Track IR is still not here.

Got basic takeoff/landing/navigation down, and can operate the Mavericks and Guns without looking at a checklist.

Amazing how much stuff from other sims translates, at least terminology wise. I think what's most difficult about this sim, is that the controls are named as they really are, i.e. coolie hat, china hat, etc.

Can't wait for tomorrow night, we should mess around in the training mission for a while, and then is anyone up for an actual mission?

I found this simple 4 ship SEAD/Base Attack mission which might be fun.
http://files.digitalcombatsimulator....

I'm still way behind on learning this as I'm still fumbling through the manual and my office has been an oven lately (no AC and my window fan died on me. Replacement one coming today, yay!) But I probably can't make tonight anyway. It's "pass holders' night" at Elitch Gardens, the local amusement park, and the wife wants to go to that.

Is this happening tonight? I finally get a friday I can play.. don't leave me hanging!

Not sure El-Producto, I'm home and interested in flying if anyone else is!

Dude.. I've been waiting!

Sent you a steam request.

I'll be in GWJ vent waiting.

Anyone interested in flying tonight?

Just stunned...

I think I either hate you or love you, not sure which.

OMG , Mantis !

Do you still have your old setup collecting dust in the closet? I'm willing to pay the S&H ;).

Just the Warthog Hotas cost 770$~ locally . I can't afford 160$ (find the markup unreasonable) for x52 but I bet whatever LiquidMantis upgraded from is worth it.
