FF2011: Official GWJFFL (non-keeper) signup and discussion thread

In it to win it!

Or at least not to lose it.

In it to lose it!

I mean, I can't do much worse than I did last year. Hopefully.

Would love to join as well if you are still accepting rookies (just to the GWJFFL, not to fantasy football).

It sure got quiet in here.

27 spots locked up + 1 rookie (who's in unless the rest of the veterans show up in the next two days)

Figured you would add an event to the Steam group? Or a couple events, so that they pop each day. 2 days left to sign up, 1 day left to sign up, with links to this thread. Or something.

Of course if everyone in the Steam group is already signed up, then I guess it doesn't matter. But I didn't bother to cross check the list with the members. Above my pay grade to do leg work like that, all the extra mouse clicking.

Heh, I forgot about the Steam group. It never got much traction anyway.

I'm in as well GWJFFL 3, unless I got bumped up for making playoffs.

(28 +1) / 33

This thread is quiet. Let's change that.
Preseason starts tonight, which means it's going to be time to draft soon. Hooray!

Excited!!!!

This year's draft is going to be so crazy, and regardless of hype it's going to be so much harder to judge the manager's relative success post-draft that other years. All around it spells a very exciting season!

I'm in again.

Thanks for posting a message in FF... which alerted us that the new post was up.

It is *greatly* appreciated.

Yeah, it will definitely be a weird draft with shortened camps and so much player movement.

Re: the relegation procedures

"Relegation will be determined by comparing post-season performance of the bottom two teams"

In the consolation bracket of GWJFFL, the teams ranked 11th and 12th defeated the teams ranked 9th and 10th in the first round.

So, does that mean the first round losers (the 9 and 10 seed) are up for relegation?

Sorry grump, I'm too tipsy (read: lazy) to look this up. Do Keeper teams count in terms of not moving up because you have two teams?

Nah. GWJFFLK is _totally_ separate. (It even gets its own thread.) Landshrk83 has (though "had" is most likely to be more accurate) a team in both GWJFFL2 and GWJFFL3.

In the first post, I wrote:

Special note: As mentioned here, the relegation procedures in the current version of the rules are the ones that will be effective at the end of this year. Should we need to utilize relegation this preseason, we will use the process described here. Last year, in week 14, I wrote:

Promotion happens based on year-end rankings and so relegation will do so as well. The top two teams have the option of going up. If and when necessary, the bottom two teams will do down.

Now for the spice:
1) Since the two participants of the "Super Bowl" are eligible for promotion, the two final teams in the consolation tournament (aka the "Toilet Bowl") earn immunity from relegation for the following year.
2) Should the commissioner be one of the bottom two teams, or should one of the bottom two teams earn immunity, the #10 team becomes at risk for relegation.
3) If the commissioner is one of the bottom three teams, AND one of the other bottom teams earns immunity, #9 becomes at risk for relegation.
4) If the commissioner is on of the bottom four teams and BOTH of the bottom teams make it to the toilet bowl, the #8 team is at risk for relegation.

Remember that relegation is not guaranteed. It will only be utilized should positions for promotion not come available through natural attrition.

I'll figure out what that means in practical terms if we don't have promotion slots open up through natural attrition.

The championship of the consolation bracket was #7 vs. #8 in all 3 leagues so since they didn't win immunity, #11 and #12 are the current relegation candidates for GWJFFL1 and GWJFFL2.

Edit: Though "The Rat Pack" (GWJFFL2, #11) is safe because, as mentioned here, the winners of GWJFFL3, "The Walking Dead," are not eligible to move up since it's Landshrk83's second team.

Change of plans... please count me out.

The "priority registration" deadline has passed. All 30 29 teams who have signed up are in. Check the list to make sure you're on it. Once we have the full 33, I'll see where we are regarding promotion and relegation.

Edit: 30 -> 29: Dan Kelly changed his mind.

No! What are we going to do without two Saints homers this year?

Seriously though, sorry you can't make it work Dan, you always participated in the threads.

Based on offline conversations, I've hopefully clarified the rules for relegation that take effect next offseason. If you have any questions, please post them here. If you have suggestions or complaints, please take them to PMs. Thanks.

  1. Promotion: The top two teams, as determined by post-season performance (basically, the two teams in the Championship Game) in each of the lower divisions, will be given the option to move up to the division above (e.g. GWJFFL2 to GWJFFL1).
  2. Relegation: If positions for promotion do not come available through natural attrition (i.e. teams leaving the league), the rules for relegation from the upper divisions will be implemented. While the simplest solution would be to say that the bottom two teams (#11 and #12 at the end of the regular season) will be relegated, we like to make things a little more interesting here in the GWJFFL. Essentially, two of the bottom three teams (as determined by the final regular season rankings) will be relegated, based on their post-season performance.
    1. Since it is possible, due to various factors, that only one team will relegated, we first compare the performance of the bottom two teams (i.e. #11 and #12). Whichever team has the worse post-season record will be relegated. Ties are won by the higher-ranked team.
    2. Should a second team need to be demoted, we then compare the post-season records of the remaining two teams (i.e. #10 and whoever is left). Ties are again won by the higher-ranked team.
    3. In practice, this means that the following is usually true:
      1. Winning the consolation tournament will guarantee immunity from demotion but is not necessarily required to avoid it.
      2. In the scenario where two teams have to be relegated, the #12 team has to win at least two games to have a chance of being completely safe while the other two teams might be safe after winning only one.
      3. The loser of the first round game between #10 and #11 will be at least the second team relegated, if not the first.
  3. Exceptions: Since the commissioner is already in all leagues due to administrative necessity, the commissioner can be neither promoted nor relegated. This means that...
    1. Should the commissioner finish in a position that makes him eligible for promotion, the next-highest team (i.e. #3) based on post-season rankings will become eligible for promotion.
    2. Should the commissioner finish in a position that makes him eligible for relegation, the next-lowest team (i.e. #9) will be considered for relegation, if necessary, according to the process described above.

Complete rules document.

Is there a slot left? I'd like in ...

I am also back in 3 if possible.

One week to go. 2 slots left (after rabbit and Cobble).

Cool a podcaster. We can sit at the cool kids table now guys!

Sweet. Can't wait for draft. This if the most excited I've been for football since He Hate Me joined the XFL.

OK, count me in if there is still a spot...
