GWJ BCS League - NCAA 12 (360): Season I, Week 3

I'm ok with an adjustment and starting over. I thought the 2 star league had it pretty good last year. I'd much rather have real names, too.

I'm with the majority since I'm at work and skimming!! haha

We have a solid group of players, and I think that no matter what we'd still have a competitive league and could win without slider adjustments (once we got used to the settings).

Starting over is always fun too once we feel like we got it "perfect" and with names.

I got smoked by Purdue. I think human pass blocking needs to be adjusted, as well. There's no way that D-linemen should be getting to my QB with the frequency they do.

I have not had a real issue with that. Pass Blocking is set at 70. But CPU Pass Rush is at 100. So there is room to tweak.

well,
my two cents worth are that we should start over. I dont mind continuing, but given the choice, I wold vote for a start over. I also like restucturing the division since my team just isnt that good. True names would be great as well.

In terms of sliders, QB accuracy could be jumped a notch or two. RB's dialed down just a tad. The tackling needs to be boosted, because against stanford, I did have a MLB hit the rb, who just bounced off, then (mid spin) get hit by a CB and safety and still kicked out and ran for 30 some yards...it was stupid.

I vote we tweak sliders until the patch, then restart. Thats just me. I will play though, no matter what happens.

No matter what, once we get it resolved or otherwise, I vote for 'no slider talk' afterwards!! It loses the "fake" reality of being a coach if I can change the sliders and not try to tweak my recruiting (getting better OLinemen) or my style of play (practicing). Once we're set, we should be set even if we start getting blown out!!

i can agree with that

Hawaii beats Pittsburgh 31-21 (unless it freezes).

I've noticed when I try to establish the run early I do better at the end. I take the 2, -1, 3 yard plays.

My punter was the player of the game with 4 or 5 inside the 10 (I've never been that accurate before).

I played a Play Now game against OSU....

Boom Herron 31 carries 290 yards. rofl

Any thought on just increasing human tackling to 50? Maybe folks could try that. It seemed to help in the one game I got to run with it.

Anybody consider going conservative with Big Hits and Strip Ball? Are some of you going aggressive? I also switched to a 4-3 from the 3-4 that I ran in the first two games. I do think defense is tough, as I mentioned my troubles with it.

Not that my input means anything league wise, but I am running the same sliders you are in my Georgia dynasty. I'm getting some good games out of them too.
W vs #10 Boise St 35-14
W vs #15 South Carolina 27-20
W vs FCS SE 63-7
W at Ole Miss 24-10
W vs Mississippi St 26-7
L at #22 Tennessee 53-50 (2OT) (2120 Greatness score) (UGA QB 20-36 434 yds 3 tds vs. Tenn QB 36-57 546 yds 5 td)

In years past I've always favored the 3 man front defenses, but I don't like the changes to the play book for 3-4 this year and haven't tried the 3-3-5 yet, so I've been running a 4-3. I've also had to use the conservative adjustments for Big Hits and Strip Ball as Jayhawker recommends against every team except the FCS school, and I started on aggressive against them and went to balanced after the HB bounced a 70+ yd TD against me on their first drive. I had been in the top 10 in total defense up until this last Tennessee game now I'm like back around 70 something.

The thing I'm having the most trouble with is getting pressure on the QB, surprise, surprise. I think the most I've given up in a game rushing so far is just shy of 150 by Miss St.

Redhawk: I actually love the sliders too in my offline dynasty. I've worked my way up as HC of Northwestern. I lost to Vandy by 6, and just had a great game (loss) against Ohio St. 35-21 (but I had chances to win).

I do well on Defense running basically against how the offense lines up: 3 wide = Nickel, 2 wide = 4-3. If they throw a lot to the TE's or in the middle I switch to a 3-3-5 and user the MLB.

Alway on 3rd down I switch to the DE and rush the QB to get sacks. Overall fun and very realistic!!

Hey League: Since it looks like we are in the process of restarting once the patch comes out, I'm gonna drop and focus on my offline dynasty.

RedHawk or Spy (based on the Waiting List) will be awesome additions!

Thanks for including me.

Are you coming back if we do start over?

And the plan is to test these sliders out, if they look good, restart the league after the patch and roster sets are available. Looks like we will need to fill the 12th spot again, which means Ihaida is in if he wants it. Then again, if Redhwk is interested in coming back, the spot is technically his, since he was a member throughout the NCAA11 run.

I will get my game in tonight. Hoping for a different result than the previous two.

I posted a link to an interesting discussion over at OS in NCAA 12 thread. Basically, using LT while passing adds elevation to your pass, including on bullets. The caveat is that it also produces longer wind-up animation. This could help avoid a lot of those batted balls over the middle.

Tried the LT in yesterday's game, WR has Safety beat by at least 7-10 yards, running toward corner of endzone. Pass 40 yards downfield to open WR (using LT), and safety still gets hand on the ball to knock it away. For whatever reason, I wasn't able to look at highlights of incomplete passes in my game. Freakin weird. Also, not saying it doesn't work, but it didn't work there.

Also, I picked off two pitch attempts in my game for TDs, but early in the 1st quarter, the QB ran an option, and pitched the ball into the hip of my DE...............for an incomplete pass.

Only 2 TDs Navy scored were big runs. Couldn't bring the halfback down on one, and the other, the QB sat behind a lineman for a couple of seconds, waited for my defense to open a giant hole for him to run, and then (untouched) 67 yards for a TD. On another play, their QB took a giant hit from my MLB (head on) while running toward the 1st down marker, and it barely affected his stride.

I practiced the LT a few times and noticed a huge difference on curls and outs.

I still think a bump in QB Accuracy or WR catching would be useful. It still seems like teams are failing to complete 50% of their passe, even if games they win.

One thing at a time. The biggest crisis right now is having computer running backs average 250 yards a game against us.

I was just entering the new sliders, and I saw that INTs are up to 40-45. Is that right? I thought they were 10-20. You don't show a change.

I have INTs really low too on my offline stuff

I just looked at the OD, and it looks like they have been 35-40. I think that seems right.

Yeah, I think after you posted the sliders, someone mentioned a bump in the INT department. I couldn't remember exactly what I set them for, but looks like I came close in my guess, lol. I adjusted it above. I agree with Shag, we will hold off on adjusting the QB Accuracy/WR Catching for now, but my reasoning is a little different than his. I think with more practice, those comp % should go up. Of course, if it doesn't, we will make some adjustments. Which is why everyone should keep playing as if we would complete this season.

Speaking of which, Shag and Shonuff are left on the schedule. I will roll after they play, or Wednesday before work, whichever comes first.

LT doesnt really work on the long ball - deep pass (over the shoulder stuff). Not sure why but lobbing it up is a much better for that type of route and heaven forbid you actually try to throw an angle to where that WR should be, corner of end zone, sideline etc... that CB/safety will stop and pick that pass every time, every scenario. I have seen a safety be on the left side of the field covering the deep left and break off and run 20 yds diagonally to pick a pass off from a wide open receiver - I almost broke a controller type moment.

Still gonna pass on the invite to the league, but I'll update my offline dynasty with your new proposed sliders and get some testing in for you.

This is the most glaring problem I have with the passing game right now. You throw to a guy who looks open -- because he is! -- only to have a superhuman safety come over and swat it down or intercept it.

I have no idea what Firesloth is referring to.

I know of only a couple of routes that actually work for deep passes unless you are incredibly proficient at the manual catch. The streak route by the wideouts along the sidelines especially off the bump and run. The seam route is more likely to get picked by super safety. The C routes can work pretty well but you need lots of time because it takes forever to develop. I have had to work really hard on route combos against specific coverages. The Cover 2 Sink is a MFer to pass against.
