Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO) will expand upon the team-based action gameplay that it pioneered when it was launched 12 years ago.CS: GO features new maps, characters, and weapons and delivers updated versions of the classic CS content (de_dust, etc.). In addition, CS: GO will introduce new gameplay modes, matchmaking, leader boards, and more.
"Counter-Strike took the gaming industry by surprise when the unlikely MOD became the most played online PC action game in the world almost immediately after its release in August 1999," said Doug Lombardi at Valve. "For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most-played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise. CS: GO promises to expand on CS' award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the PC as well as the next gen consoles and the Mac."
CS: GO is being developed by Valve in cooperation with Seattle-based Hidden Path Entertainment. The title is targeted for release in early 2012 and will be playable at this year's PAX Prime and London Games Festival.
Cue tons of old CS people crying it's not exactly like an old variant of CS. Hopefully this will be to CS what TF2 is to TF/TFC, a clean attempt at making a new version of the game, and not just a copy with 2012 graphics.
I'm really excited.
Sweet!
Also, why does the sniper guy have the lens cap on one end, and open the other end? This bothers me.
Color me excited (what color is that, again?).
Something that's going to be interesting is how this performs on the consoles. When COD1 came out, my first impression was that it was WW2 CS, so I wonder how it will go down on what's now COD's "home turf".
hm It's from Hidden Path, and they were the guys that worked on CS:Source and Defense Grid: The Awakening. Which is the only other stuff on their website under the games section.

Pretty sure it's a combination of red and white in concentric circles on your head.

The away end of the scope can produce a reflection which could be spotted, therefore the cap on that end. No reason to cap the other if you have a chance of engaging therefore leave it up while weapon is unholstered.
Also, they better include piranesi.

Wrong, it's Non-descriptive Call of Duty Brown #376

I'd rather see them try to do what Blizzard did with SC2. I'm not going to cry if it's not like 1.6, but I'll be disappointed if it carries over all the sh*t from CS:S. They said they want this to be an e-sports title and CS:S was a complete failure in that regard. I'm not going to get my hopes up though, they invited CS:S players to their studio and not 1.6 players, and Valve tend to do what they want not what their community wants.
But will there be hattes?
But will there be hattes?
Undoubtedly. Valve is going to microtransaction the hell out of this game.
It looks like it is definitely NOT a major overhaul, but mostly a graphics update with some gameplay tweaks.
F2P! F2P! F2P! F2P! F2P! F2P! F2P!
I'm actually glad that it is.
I cant wait!!!!! The inner awp whore is very very giddy.

And on the 6th (Valve) Day Gabe said there would be hattes and there were hattes and it was good.
I am so there.
Meh, Valve destroys every independent mod they touch.

Why did I waste my time clicking on that link?

Uh, is it? Everything I've read from the dudes who went to playtest it is that it will be something like a $50 retail title.
And here are some details: http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comment...

Because it's not as though CS/CSS/TF2 are the top playing games on steam at the moment. Oh wait.
Or that the many other versions of CS/TF over the years have left Valve's in the dust with a rock solid player base. Hang on a moment that hasn't happened either.
And those digipen projects never went anywhere, it was a waste of time hiring those guys. Errr...
Whether you like them or not, there's a whole load of people who do decide what Valve produces is worth their playing time. And it's not as though your choice is limited in TF/CS-like games.

Yes because top played = good game...
TFC was a better game than TF2.
DoD has become a pile of sh*t.
CS was more fun during beta.
Portal was a neat tech demo but the puzzles were simple and boring, humor was decent but the community ran that into the ground.
I cant wait to see it at PAX this year.

Ah, i just re-read the RPS article. I thought they were saying it'd be F2P, but they're just wondering if it will be.

You're funny.
Oh, you're serious? Well sh*t. You sure chose the right thread to subscribe to!
TFC, incidentally, was also a Valve game. Did you ever play Quakeworld TF? Because I did. And, uh, I like TF2 better.
