Neverwinter Nights 2 rocks!

Count me in for some multiplayer if it gets started up.

DuckiDeva and I grabbed the steam sale too. Might be up for MP.

The original campaign is pretty badly paced. Once you get to Neverwinter, it turns into something of a slog until the end of Act I. It picks up a whole lot in act two, however, so I'd say it's worth gritting your teeth and putting up with the detours. If you do bail on the OC, don't -- don't -- give up on the game, but fire up Mask of the Betrayer instead. Nominally it's a continuation on the OC, but the plot's almost completely unrelated, so you won't get lost. It's one of the finest RPG experiences of the last ten years.

Here's your chance.

NWN 2 performance has increased; certainly since launch. Then, it was a really big problem. Now it's just par for say, 1990's gaming level of problems. I kid. It's pretty stable for me.

They went through a period of problems with the Nvidia Geforce Drivers. I had to roll mine back at one point, but recent rumors are that the Nvidia driver problems have been fixed.

have they fixed the camera issues? Because thats why i refused to play it anymore or buy expansions. I'd rather play the first one over 2.

I found I was able to get the camera to behave a lot like NWN1; though it's been a really really long time. I don't recall what the camera behavior was like exactly.

You have to play with the camera modes a little. The have about three modes. I can't recall exactly what the one was that was most like NWN1.

With some luck, having left off of it for a long time, and having played many similar games in between will have helped you forget your camera preferences and you can sort of go into it ready to make the best of what it is, instead of expecting it to behave like a previous version or similar game. [please be careful with tone of voice on this one, it could come off as really snotty, it isn't intended to sound that way. More like hopeful]

Not really i have over 200hrs in NWN so the camera mode is pretty much dug in. The one thats even close isnt close enough.

Want to start an NWN diamond campaign?

I'll delete the "2" off the thread title.

If you didn't feel silly re-buying the game, it's only a $9.99 and DRM free download away over at GOG. (/shilling)

I'd volunteer to join a campaign, but I've got an internet service provider that won't allow for much (or any) online gaming.

Ranalin, what exactly were your camera issues?
I know I had an issue with the rotate speeds being way to fast in stategic and exploration modes. I was just able to go into my nwn2player.ini file and set the minimum and current rotate speeds to 0.050000

This has significantly improved the camera handling.

Have you played with the values in that ini file? Does that solve your problem?

Not only did I finish, but I won. Thanks Hobbes.

Necro, because I found this with some camera mods. If it's not what you're looking for, you might find some insight into modding things to be as you like.

I know I missed the sale but I decided to pick up the Platinum Edition on Steam for $20 and it has been well worth the cost. I'm happily playing through the main campaign with my Pally am having a grand time. The story and game mechanics are solid and the engine has been rock solid for me. The graphics are 3-years old but this is not a FPS so I consider them very passable for this type of game. Even at $20, this is a steal, and I haven't even touched the two expansions.

Has anyone else had the problem of not being able to leave the crossroads keep after garius dies? I spoke with Vale and told him i wanted to loot the bodies before leaving. Now i find that Vale is dead so i can't talk to him and i can't get out of the keep.

Anyone still playing this? I picked it up over the summer sale and I just started the campaign as a wizard. I've only played warriors and rogues in the previous NWN games, got bored with the main campaign in the third chapter. Finished SoU but never touched HoTU.

The game is pretty old at this point, but are there any persistent world multiplayer servers still around? I sunk a bunch of hours into one called Nordock way back in the day.

I've not even had a chance to start the game thanks to so many others. I've seen Awkward in it the past night or two so might fire it up. I had a Dungeons of Dredmor moment last night which kinda made me mad so I need something else for now

I'm enjoying the singleplayer but it keeps crashing on me. It only happens when I initiate a conversation and it hard locks my PC. The screen freezes, but music keeps playing in the background. Probably graphics related. The game doesn't run very well and people with beastly rigs still get 20-30fps, apparently turning shadows on kills performance. Good job Obsidian...

I just updated my drivers, hopefully it will run better.

Are there any goodjers still playing? I know we had some interest in multiplayer a while back.

It's still installed, but I don't really play it much anymore. I'd be down for a storyline playthrough if someone decides to start one, though.

Argh! Well the drivers sorta helped. The graphical performance is about 10X better. I also discovered that turning off point light source shadows helped a lot too. Problem is it still crashes. Instead of locking up my whole computer, it just locks up the game. Pretty much the only difference is that now I can move my cursor. I can tab out and bring up the task manager, but my screen doesn't refresh anymore so I can't actually see them. I only know they are trying to display because my cursor changes.

At this point another patch is probably out of the question so I'm stuck with it. Its a real bummer because I like the game and I can tell that its quite long, even before you factor in the expansions.

I started playing this (and bought it for $20) right before the Steam sale. I'm currently away from my gaming PC for a while, but I may be up for some multiplayer. I got to about chapter 3 or so with my first character. So far it is a very fun game, but as Tamren mentioned, it's a bit silly my i5 2500, and Radeon HD 5770 chugs during certain sections of the game.

The multiplayer seems a bit wonky though. From what I remember, everyone has to start at the same time otherwise non-host players don't progress the same as the host.

I heard the Mask of the Betrayer add-on is the best part, so I'm working up to that myself.

Wow, it looks like whatever code is responsible for shadows is really lacking. I turned shadows off completely and immediately raised my framerate past 60. Vsync works now and I don't see any slowdown.

Whats more I used GPUZ to log some temperatures and with shadows off my video card runs a good 10-15 degrees cooler, down from idling at 77c.

Whoa. NWN2 modders have put the entire Icewind Dale game into NWN2.

Get it here: http://neverwinter.nexusmods.com/dow...

Wait what? Must re-install NWN2 and check this out.

Hunh. That's... interesting. The IWD series, to me, was always characterized by the heavy tactical combat. I don't see how that would really translate.

Yeah, IWD was a D&D combat simulator, it wasn't really a story, per se. Not sure why you'd even want to translate that one.

Neverwinter Nights 2 is back on the internet! The full game and all three expansions are available on GOG. GO GET THIS!

Ohhhhh. That's cool!
