GWJ BCS League - NCAA 12 (360): Season I, Week 1

Crazy game against the Tarhels last night. They returned the opening kickoff for a TD, I came back and on my first play from scrimmage ran one in for a 70 yard TD. After that they got ahead of me on some blown coverages to end the half 21-7 NCU. The second half I got some key interceptions and managed to win it 31-28. The game is so much more balanced this year. I really fear my CPU opponents as well as my human ones now.

And that's what we're going for this year. Last year, 95% of the time, the humans beat the XBox. Sometimes, it was in rediculous fashion, with top 10 schools getting blown out. Not that it shouldn't happen, but it happened too often. Jayhawker did a great job with supplying the sliders, he should really be committed.

Commended, I meant commended

My only issues with the sliders so far are the run blocking and the offsides/false starts. I played a couple of games and I completely gave up on running. My OL was barely holding blocks and and on the defensive end, I was getting stuck on blocks and the player switching doesn't always switch to the player you want. I also stopped using fake hikes since the same player kept false starting. I find the computer to be very successful in jumping the snap count unless you throw in some fake hikes to draw the offsides but too many consecutive false starts stopped me from doing that.

It is my goal to take the Stanford QB out when I play them so the rest of you have an easier game!!

I feel there should be a nice mix of offsides on both sides of the ball, since it more commonly occurs in college football (so does punt blocks, but we never see any of those). However, if after Season I, it looks like there are too many 1-sided offsides penalties, we will adjust accordingly. I think we'll get together every offseason and discuss sliders changes.

For instance, I went with 7 minute quarters for Season I, even though Jayhawker went with 8. I want to see how 7 goes before bumping it up a minute, so we will definitely discuss that in the offseason. I will be looking at stats as well to see if we need to stay or increase.

Also, and I wanted to put this in a seperate post, I said last year how I loved the group we had, and the NCAA12 group looks just as tight, and I like the fact the thread is 3 pages long for Week 1, there's definitely a lot to talk about, and I hope we can keep the comradery and trash-talking going.

Like I said before, this is the funnest time I've had in all the years I've been playing NCAA

We'll see how much fun you have after tonight's game

(Actually, we'll see how much fun I have after tonight's game. I think my defense tonight is going to consist of everybody on defense hot routed to QB spy. )

LMAO!!! This is going to be an interesting game for sure. We both run a spread offense...ugh.

My take on the sliders. I knew about the sliders and I have not really played that much with them. So I say my beating by the hands of Stanford was justified. My goal this year was to go 7-5 and build this team up to where I beat the system handily. I am considering it a challenge to myself to win more games than the year before. So, I am OK with the sliders the way they are and hope my team can tackle a little better than what it did against Stanford.

Stanford is a 95+ overall. They are going to give everyone the business.

The sliders are indeed quite tough. I'm playing an offline dynasty set up to mirror this one, just to practice against teams on this slider set. As Notre Dame I beat Michigan (as should always happen) with a FG as time expired. I got spanked by TCU. Subsequently it took a lot of effort to get by Iowa (the difference in the game was a safety!).

So, this is going to be a tough season for all of us!

Just like a Michigan fan to make up words.

Quiet you. I will slap you more quickly than you can know....

LOL!

Leroy, I also agree. I don't care if I lose 80-0 to Stanford. I'm blitzing the whole time and diving at knees.

And Kush, I agree with you also, this is awesome!!!!

Good luck. gdawg is tough.

Thank you. I think we played a game last year. He's a handful.

So, I leave town a week from Saturday (Aug 13) for a week. If we get lucky and roll fast through week 2, I might be able to play my week 3 game against Iowa. If not, I can have it simmed.

I think we can manage that.

You and Hansome both will be out of commission (he is gone until the 22nd I believe), so I think we can wait for you guys. Hopefully we can get to Week 3, you both can play your games, and we will be in Week 4 when you both return. Someone else is out for another stretch, I have to go back and check, and I will be out of commission(er) for a week in mid-September.

Also, found this funny, since we already do this!!!!! I CAME UP WITH IT FIRST MOTHER F*CKER!!!!

Speaking of Hansome......................WHERE YOU AT SON?!?!?! Just give me a shout out that you're ok, no rush on the game.

well...I think I need to practice...my problem is that Marshall is lucky to get 3 star prospects at this time..and I didnt realize the sliders were set that way. I am going to practice tomorrow and tonight with both WVU and MARSHALL and see what the issues are. I want to try to stick with Marshall, but being that they are so underpowered at the current time...I might have to switch. Let me ask this...If I stick to Marshall this season and end up with a horrible record. Would anyone have an issue with me taking a job at WVU next season? I am a Marshall Alumni but I want to be competitive with the rest of the league and I am concerned that I wont be with the Herd.
Thoughts?

Zell,

I think if you want/think you need to switch, and Kush sees a way for it to work within the schedule, I'd do it now before you play a game with Marshall. There's no sense being bummed/not having fun just 'cause you underestimated the sliders.

..And if you beat me with WVU, I will cry and say you cheated!! (just joking).

Zell, I'm fine with you grabbing WVU now. But you have some time to decide. If you do take WVU, you don't have a game Week 1, so you can recruit and we'll be a step closer to Week 2

GG Leroy. I threw 5 interceptions so there was no way I was winning. In '11 I might have caught a couple. Have to change my style of playing. I was worried about Michigan's speed the entire game. They're a fast team.

Once I lost Robinson(Pollack), my offense sputtered hard. Thankfully I only lost him for the game. And lol @ my int right before your second TD. I was mashing the A button to get the play off and he ended up just tossing a soft ball over the middle for anyone to catch.

You started getting a little predictable at the end there and that's where two of those ints came from. You gave me a scare though, your running game is good. You had a lot of solid runs where I thought I had you but you cut just right and got 5-6 yards extra.

Yeah. I was leaning on my TE too much however I was banking on some user control to snag some receptions and from my end it looked like I was about to catch them. Also one of the 1st interceptions was bizarre. I think it was because I was pushing left on the stick and he threw it right to your guy. I have to work on my QB's touch on passing.

I need this patch to come out so my QB's are more effective on the ground!

EVERYONE WAVE AT ZELLBRIGE!!!!

(Just kidding buddy)

(No seriously, we're waiting on you)

(JK)

(Maybe)

I really think moving him to WV is the best answer. Marshall is a really rough school to start out with. Plus, it lets you roll the league now!

I sat down this morning and recreated the the league as an offline dynasty. Holy crap, Kush! That must have taken you forever! And then I only did a schedule for my team. I can't even imagine trying to nail all of this down.

The tools for customizing conferences works pretty well, but it would be nice to be able to eliminate an entire conference. I trued to make my dream Big East confernce last night, with most of the Big 12 North signing on. I wanted to then put the Texas schools into the Pac-12, and make Mizzou an independant, becasue who want that trash in their conference.

But alas, I had to keep the Big 12 with at least 4 teams.
