Just Cause 2 Catch-All

I started it up and tried to apply the BOLOPatch, but it seems a patch broke it. /sad
I don't really plan on finishing it, but I plan to do ridiculous things. A lot.

I finished the game and had a blast with it. The combat and mechanics were fun and the world was fun to explore. Fun for a while anyways. The collection process to complete a village or other location got really tedious, despite how fun it is to traverse the world. Once the main plot is finished, it suffers from a lack of a macro-mechanic.

I think it would be awesome to have more pronounced world systems operating - factories that tie into controlled population bases, produce weapons or power to military, transportation and shipping hubs, etc... Granted much of that gets quite complex, but imagine staging ambushes on supply trucks that weaken a military base, making it easier to overtake. The military base, once downed, weakens response and support in surrounding villages and so on. That kind of large scale strategy is something I wished for.

A slightly smaller world trading off for some more unique locations would have been fun too.

Still had a blast (pun intended, hur hur) playing it though.

That sounds great. To my knowledge, the closest they came to that was the communications stations reducing the heat response you would get for causing chaos.

Granted, there were lots of varying locations from deserts, to foothills, mountains, tropical, cities, marine, oil platforms, islands, and some crazy island in the north west. What sort of unique location would you want that could be realistically contained within such geographic proximity that didn't already make an appearance? An active volcano w/ evil geunius lair inside?

Tagging this thread for good times. I love this game so much.

Thanks to Hyetal, I'm now the proud owner of Just Cause 2. Going to be some fun times ahead!

My name is Bolo Santosi.

I had a response written up but on further reflection, I guess it boils down to me wishing that Just Cause 2 was actually an RPG on that huge, lush island. After 30+ hours, blowing up army base #27 or doing race #14 just doesn't quite do it for me.

It suffers from the same thing that GTA does - once you get away from the missions, the 'human' interaction isn't really there. NPC's squish good under your car and run away when shot at, guards shoot back and chase, but you don't get much more interaction. The cities, even as beautiful as they were and with a some folks walking the streets, felt empty. The villages are pretty much the same template, just a different skin. The hyper-realism in the environment hi-lighted the places where it was just a game (ignoring the whole grappling hook on a jet fighter bad-assery). I think though it's in part because of the pace the game was designed for. It wasn't meant to be walked through - it was meant to be strafed with a helicopter, guns blazing, or blasted through on a motorcycle.

I remembered back to points in Fallout 3 in the world where you'd happen onto some abandoned cot, a gun, and a few other sundries. Small, but told a quiet, unique story about some guy off in the wilderness. Made the world feel lived in.

So much was so good about Just Cause 2 that it really inspired me and made me want that last little bit to really bring the world to life. Man, with some decent mod tools...

I would play that game, Bob.

So I think I'm playing this game wrong...I got past the first mission, and started the second mission. Everything I do seems horribly clunky and awkward. I know there's probably a ton of creative things I"m not thinking of, but I'm just grappling onto high buildings, and gunning ppl down, shooting explosive barrels occasionally when I see them. I can't figure out any use for the tether option on grappling, where you hold it down and connect it to something else. I only managed to tether a soldier to a wall and made him fly a little, but he was shooting me while I was setting it up.

Also, does anyone else get motion sickness. I turned off motion blur but I feel mildly nauseated after 45 minutes and had to stop.

See my previous post, but I'm also getting shot a lot figuring out cool stuff. Or missing a jump or grapple or landing and ending up several hundred feet below where I should be, racing the clock to get back to my objective. Awkwardly.

But I don't care that much because it is still fun. Kinda like being in an episode of Burn Notice.

How many escort missions are in this game...I finished the first 2 missions, and I already had to escort the most flimsy car ever in "Casino Bust", which took me around 9 tries, and now I'm on the free world some weird priest dude gave me a infiltrate power plant, which I escorted a technician...which promptly got killed. I quit the game afterwards.

Which genius game designer keeps coming up with escort missions. I have never played one that didn't suck

Not quite motion sickness, but I was getting some eyestrain headaches. I haven't tried turning off motion blur yet...

That car Chase was funny. Try to grapple enemy jeep to stuff, miss, repeat, f*ck it, shoot guy hanging out passenger side, shoot tire. Repeat grappling attempt on next jeep, fail, tire shot.

And yes, that was one flimsy jalopy.

I didn't have any trouble with that car chase... I just stood on top of the car and tethered enemy cars to the ground. It felt simultaneously badass and completely cheap... and I was fine with that.

And yes the escort missions are a bit annoying, but honestly the dudes aren't completely helpless. They do at least know how to fight back, and they don't die in one hit (except for enemy rocket launchers or RPGs, but those are telegraphed pretty early so you have time to deal with them).

I hadn't actually done a mission in about 6 months. Decided to do one today and I had to grapple between buildings and diffuse some bombs. Fun stuff, but I wouldn't get to bogged down worrying about missions. Just log on, and blow stuff up. I spend most of my time flying jets between buildings in the financial district. I stopped for a bit and started to 100% the towns and bases. Took forever, but I managed to 100% the Panau Docks area. I missed a gas station that was hidden under an on ramp.

If you're not having fun doing the missions, then don't do them. Fly around the world, find the hatch from Lost, grapple/parachute up to the top of the tallest mountain (there's an achievement for it), or do one of the thousands of other things that the game lets you do.

The ones we are talking about are the intro. The casino towers with your black market contact introducer and the escape in his super crappy car.

Now that I've done the intro, I'm all for just doing crazy stuff.

Just be sure to find some communication stations when it seems like they're starting to send way too many things at you continuously. That seems to ease their responses to your destruction.

I've been playing through this recently and have been having so much fun. Well, I was enjoying myself but then I downloaded the unlock everything and unlimited ammo mods and now I feel like a kid on a pixie stick overdose.

I saw there is a flying mod but man, how has someone not made an Iron Man mod? That would be so sweet to fly around using a unibeam, photon cannon and repulser blasts! pewpewpew

Also, is there a way to "clear" an area so the military doesn't freak out if you fire one bullet?

Wait... there's a flying mod?

I really need to start playing this game.

Did you guys check out the thread? I just read it, and owenwilson1 was making good progress, then was quiet for a while, then let this note and hasn't responded since:

i gave up on it sorry noone was intrested. i tell you what if i can get people to message me pm and tell me how much they want the skin then it might be possible for me to carry on.

Kinda strange IMO. Oh well, it was a cool idea. Unfortunately that message was 7 months ago.

It met the same fate as so many promising mods - Loss of interest from the creator. Oh well, flying is still cool.

How hard can a skin be?

I played this game for the PS3 and it was a lot of fun. I miss playing it sometimes, and I wish I wouldn't have traded it off. I REALLY wish they would have added an only Sandbox mode. That would have been a blast. This could have been the Military GTA for us. Maybe on part 3 they can add this in.

Late notice but I just saw this on the daily Steam sale for about $5. Great sandbox game and totally worth it.

I'm a die hard Just Cause 2 fan. I've owned it on OnLive, on xbox360, and now on PC thru Steam.
I guess I'm one of those people they talk about on the show. The guy who plays one game all the time.

I love the feeling of movement through the world. Whether it's the grapple+parachute combo,
or the motorcycles, planes, etc...

It's just an amazing world and I love being in it.

I've been on a JC2 kick lately. Approaching 90% completion. Done with all missions and strongholds, no more collectibles, maybe a dozen locations need cleaning out. I haven't done a single challenge yet though.

Just remember, it's impossible to get 100% due to known bugs. Don't go crazy!

I didn't know. Glad I do now.
