From Dust

Speaking of Giant Bomb videos of the game, now there's a quick look: http://www.giantbomb.com/quick-look-...

I've been largely uninterested in this game, but that video did make it look a bit more interesting. I'll be trying out the demo, at least.

Well, now we know it will probably not be any fun. Too bad.

I'm saving you money. It's a valuable service.

Brad can un-fun anything no matter how much Vinny funs it.

Guess I should watch the quick look. As of now I'm very interested in picking this up (during a Steam Sale).

You know you don't have to buy it the moment it's released, so you can get the opinions of early adopters and have more information for your important purchasing decision.

I have only purchased 2 games day one-- so I'm certainly one to take in the opinions of others and wait for a good deal.

I would love to hear feedback from said early adopters.

I'm going to pick it up, but I'll be off the grid until Friday anyway.

PC version delayed a month. Sad now.

Ubisoft *will* find ways to make us PC gamers sad. It's become tedious. Not that I mind the new CoJ slipping, it looks terrible, but honestly.

I will be genuinely surprised if AssCreedRev makes it on time.

f*ck you Ubisoft.

The sad thing is that they say "screw you, PC gamers", and since I want the game and want to support the developers, I'll still buy it day one. I just wish they'd announced this a few weeks ago when they actually made the decision. I seriously doubt they just made the determination the day before release.

Gah! Ubisoft! Really!?!?!?!?

*sigh*

Yup, this is annoying as I'm really looking forward to AC:R.

Ugh.

Hey, PC gamers! Do you guys like video games? Trick question: You can't like things because you don't really exist. BOODLOOP BOODLOOP BOODLOOP.

Sincerely,

Mr. Caffeine

Happy now. Means I can hear feedback from the Xbox crowd before I get it.

Except that won't help if the problems only come up in the port. Still, I preordered for dirt cheap, so I'm not complaining.

It's placement was perfect for me as it was halfway between the mountain of stuff I got in the steam sale and DE:HR at the end of next month, now I'll probably wait for a sale on it.

Bill Abner's review is up.

His last line says that it's an 800 point game. I'm pretty sure that's inaccurate, unless it's been changed. When I saw the original list for Summer of Arcade, all games were 1200, except for Fruit Ninja.

PURE SPECULATION, but I hope they're delaying the PC version to add a pure sandbox mode.

It now says 1200. The internet fairies must have corrected it.

Abner also says that it's a puzzle game, not a strategy game, but that there's always multiple solutions to a problem. I'm really not a fan of 'one solution' games, so I'm hoping that early buyers here can talk about this.

Another review, less enthusiastic: http://gaygamer.net/2011/07/review_f...

It's kind of funny that both reviews I've seen so far make a point of calling out the pathfinding, one as good and one as terrible. I guess I'll have to see how it is tomorrow.

4 out of 5, says GiantBomb

For those on the fence between 360 and PC, here's a possibly important quote:

GiantBomb wrote:

My only major complaint against From Dust, and it's a big one, is that you just can't lay down your dirt and lava very precisely with the Xbox's analog sticks. You can control how fast you deposit them with the triggers, but the limited camera angles and clumsy stick-based cursor movement introduce a bit more randomness into your terrain-building than I would have liked. There's nothing more frustrating than trying to build a bridge up to the edge of your town with lava, inadvertently setting the foliage on fire because you got a few pixels too close, then having to scramble to grab some water to douse the flames (and flooding your town into oblivion if you're not careful). The PC version, due out next month, may alleviate these issues with its mouse control, but there's no way to be sure just yet.

There's no free play mode?

til dawn.

Apparently you can go back to any map in sandbox mode after you have beaten it.

Okay then, that's better. I would like a complete sandbox where you try and build something from scratch but having a level to start with is good enough.
