Rules and League Settings to follow

Oh man, I can't wait for Rules and League Settings to follow. hot. :p

FYI, please note:

LeroyOG (Michigan)
Firesloth (Notre Dame)
Big Hoppa (TCU)

We'll put you three in the same division, though I might still put Hoppa in another division, but definitely linking Michigan and Notre Dame for the natural rivalry

That's cool. I like that

Oh snap. Just saw the pm Kush.

I'm in. I trying to decide between UCLA and Clemson.

Did anyone else have any interest in either of those two?

I replied in the other thread as well (as well as a PM).

Thanks for your patience with my summer schedule (and appreciated persistence).

I will be the Hawaii Warriors...and we will win.

I will also have to recruit any players with really odd and polynesian sounding names. So if you find any let me know.

Hawaii also seems like a natural rival for Rutgers and whoever Jay picks!!

I'm just going to keep posting since I'm finally able to get on the Internet, and that I am now officially really stoked!

I hope everyone takes their 1st choice of schools. Like GDawg posted on the other thread, it will be fun to knock someone off as a 2 or 3 star school (I'm not sure what Hawaii is ranked for the '12 game).

Even if Hawaii goes 4-8 the first year, that will give me something to build upon. In the 2-star league last year we almost wanted to have worse records than we did so we could improve them, but we all dominated. In this format there will be some winners and losers, which will be awesome and give us some good trash-talking. Also, upsets are hugh in real college football, and if Northwestern defeats an undefeated Notre Dame in year 1, that would be cool (although from the previous league I remember seeing NWestern highly ranked a lot).

I'm also not going to run the option like I tried last time and you all need to get ready for the Hawaii-lag when you play me (my home-field advantage).

I'm going to take Michigan State.

Looks good.

I like it.

Yeah, that looks great so far.

11 of 12 owners signed up. Ihaida is ready to step up if Omega doesn't go. SpyNavy and Breadmanben are on deck.

OK, some ideas for the division structure with what I have so far:

Division A
Notre Dame (5-star)
Michigan (5-star)
Michigan St (4-star)

Division B
Hawaii (2-star)
UCLA (2-star) (If Hansome takes UCLA)

Division C
Rutgers (3-star)
Pittsburgh (3-star) (If Shag resigns with Pitt)
West Virginia (4-star) (If Zellbrige takes WVU)

Division D
Kansas (2-star)
Marshall (2-star) (If Zellbrige takes Marshall)
Clemson (4-star) (If Hansome takes Clemson)

I figured TCU can go just about anywhere. Division A is pretty much set in stone at this point, since those are natural rivals as it is, and those owners have made their decisions.

I added the prestige to the schools selected, according to my possible structure. I might decide to do this:

Place the 3-4 biggest schools into one conference, and they will have to fight for that conference. The 3-4 lower presitige schools will go into another conference. Everyone in the middle will be thrown into one 12-team conference with 2 divisions.

And the 2 big conferences will play each other in a major bowl. The lower schools will get a chance to play in a major bowl as well.

How does this sound?

Which rosters are you going to use?

Tough decisions on which team to take. Stay with Pitt or go with Tennessee or Air Force or someone else. As yuo can see I like to run!

Fairdale Kings. They seem to be pretty accurate from what people are saying, and I used them last year on my offline league. I will also go with Jayhawkers sliders:

Cool! I would heavily suggest that people spend some time with the sliders before the season starts. I'm sure Kush will be as open to changing them as we go, as I did last year. But any changes we get in before the season starts would be best.

I should warn you that there really are problems with custom rosters this year. For some glitchy reason, when you edit a player, it changes his tendency. Some are claiming that is part of the reason LB's have been so out of control. If you play a team with a pocket passer, his new scrambling tendency will have him running, even if he is slow. But a scrambling QB will now fail to run options well because he is now a pocket passer.

It's pretty annoying. I would hope they get this fixed in a patch, but I doubt it will be retroactive to a current roster. We may need the roster creators to build a new one rom scratch once the game is patched.

Finally, I think SMU (3-star) is the most likely team I will use.

So, does this show up as a change? Will Denard Robinson be listed as a pocket passer or just behave like one (when controlled by the AI)?

I've been using those rosters. I've played about halfway through a season and not really seen problems. Air Force's QB seemed about right. Cousins of MSU gouged me for lots of scrambling yards. Robinson of Michigan...well, he could have been either way. He didn't take off too much, but wasn't just a pocket passer, either.

I'm excited for all the changes/ideas. The weekend before the league starts I should have a lot of time to practice the settings/rosters and will offer insights.

I'll pop those sliders in and give it a whirl.

Still have some open spots in the Dirty Dozen league. Feel free to sign up, going to try and kick it off around 26 July.

Spy, try messaging Breadmanben, he might be interested.

Kush, with the divisions you have (A-D), you could conceivably put us in 2 twelve team conferences with a conf. championship game in each. Also, if you think it's fair, you could keep the similar/divisional teams in each side of the conference.

I thought that was the plan?

Kush, with the divisions you have (A-D), you could conceivably put us in 2 twelve team conferences with a conf. championship game in each. Also, if you think it's fair, you could keep the similar/divisional teams in each side of the conference.

For example:

"New Conference A"

Division 1

Notre Dame
Michigan
MSU
+ 3 more Big 10 type teams

Division 2

SMU
Northwestern
Clemson
+ 3 more Midwest/Texas former Big 12 teams

"New Conference B"

Division 1

Rutgers
Pittsburgh
WVU
+ 3 Big East type teams

Division 2

Hawaii
UCLA
TCU
+ 3 Pac-10 type teams

Jay, I read this as a 3-conference format, but I may have read it too quickly.

I missed that. I assumed the four divisions would be split into two conferences. then the two conferences would be assigned bowl tie-in game, where the first place team in each squared off. The only thing wrecking that would be one of the teams getting the National championship, and probably play a CPU. But most of the time, our bowl champion would be our OD champion in game played vs another Goodjer.

Heck, I would take a league with more human games to pull this off. We could easily have each team get 9 games with humans. It would be slower, but maybe that might be okay. Maybe that is a format for another league.

Another thing we can consider with the screwed up rosters could be generating random names, which might not break the rosters. It would be too bad that we woldn't have the real names of our players, but it would still make for an interesting season.

I don't think you read it wrong, but I do not think that was Kush's intentions. I think he was thinking 2 conferences, 6 teams in each and split those into separate divisions.

You could have 3 conferences, because you will have 4 Big 10 teams (Yes I am considering Notre Dame as Big 10) and if I stay with Pitt, have 4 Big East Teams. You could put everyone else in a third conference. For human vs. human games, it is probably easier for 3 conferences with 4 teams in it than 4 conferences with 3 teams in it.

I am fine with either answer: 2, 3 or 4 conferences.

The nice thing about having just two conferences is that it should be pretty easy to schedule 3-5 human v. human games in the regular season, AND you're probably going to end up with a human v. human match-up for the conference championships.

And shame on you for putting ND in the Big 10! The Big 10 thumbed their nose at us back in the day, so we're enjoying doing it to them every three years or so now!

Big Ten doesn't need Notre Lame anymore so it's all good.

You can set up a Bowl tie in game, so then the conference Champons could be more easily assigned. Heck, we could go on down the line and get most every bowl eligible team a bowl game vs. a human.

1vs. 1
2 vs. 2
3 vs. 3
And so on...

If we have three conferences, we can't guarantee nearly as well that our last game will be human vs. human.

I forgot about the Bowl tie-ins. That's a great idea. We can set many of the bowl games against ourselves as well. We can "steal" all the ones we like. I'm partial to the Cotton, Holiday, and the Chic-Fil-Et (spelling) as well as the Hawaii Bowl!
