NCAA 12 - League Organization - Xbox 360

So is there any room in the league or do those of us not part of the "in club" need to look elsewhere or organize a separate league?

Wow. Was Kansas 3* last year? I just looked and saw that Oregon State was 3* as well. Fair, but they've won 8 - 10 games most of the last decade. So they're being pretty ruthless with teams dropping off.

Yeah, Kansas was living off some hype and hope that Turner Gill was going to be a difference maker. But it turned out that niether Kale Pick, nor Jordan webb were nearly as good as they were hyped. Webb is starting at QB again, but he is rated much more realistically now. Kale Pick actually moved to WR, ala Kerry Meier. Two of my better offinsive players, HB Toben Opurum and WR Keeston Terry are both playing dense now.

So Kansas was overrated in the game last year. I think it is cool that SMU bumped up, as I really like their team. I am having a hell of a time running the run and shoot, but with I love a nice pass happy offense with a big bruising HB. Their defense got a boost, too.

I wish EA would go over the ratings through the years and use that to create a realistic algorithm for creating new players and realistically improving, or lowering, players from year to year. It can't be that hard.

Well since there is zero response to a number of inquiries into the league I will pitch starting a new one. Please see the new forum if you are interested. There will be no limitations on teams as a matter of fact I would prefer people picking from top 25 schools. If this league has a vacancy I don't mind playing in two.

Spy, Kush posted this on the previous page. Maybe you missed it?

I will come up with some structure for the league, I'm thinking 2 conferences, with two sub-conferences in each. We will have a conference championship, and then the winner of each conference will participate in a bowl game. You will have 2 rivals that you will play each year, and play two teams outside your conference. After 3 seasons, everyone should pretty much have played each other.

If we're going to have 2 leagues, I think maybe we should have everyone sign up now, and start filling the 2nd league. The main league already has 9-10 users, and if we can get enough people, we might be able to have 2 full leagues.

Spynavy, are you still interested in running the other league?

I don't think we know if the ongoing league is full yet. There's always a lot of interest in the beginning and then some people drop. It's impressive we kept the 12 we had for so long.

As for my team, I'd like to use Northwestern. As frustrating as it is to play against a top tier team, it's also very satisfying defeating one. I plan on controlling my recruiting more this year so hopefully I can get some better players.

Yeah I missed the post. Looking at the first page the league appears to be full. I am more than happy to play in multiple leagues. Most nights after 9pm Eastern are my own. Sleep is for the weak. :). I have started a thread for a top 25 league and we will see if it gathers any interest. I'd rather spend less time on process and more time playing, everything else can be handled by exception.

I kind of agree. Once again, speaking as an interested observer and not someone planning to play. I played a decade of an offline season of my own with NCAA 11 and really found it rewarding to build up a program. Assuming I don't get tired of 12 before this happens I am planning to do the same thing with 12, an offline dynasty. That said, I found the online dynasty building to be less rewarding. Mostly because it took longer to play, the sequel game was only a year around the corner. In my perfect world you'd get a new version of the game every 2 years so everyone would stay on the same version for 2 years. You could do a lot of teambuilding in those 2 years. Not quite as much in 4 - 5 seasons.

Funny you say that. Part of Kotaku's recent review alludes to the fact that avid players of NCAA 11 with significant investment into Dynasty mode could skip this iteration and not really miss out. Personally, I love the fresh smell of a new football season so I am deep into the new game, but I certainly see Kotaku's logic train.

That's a good call. If I were spending time playing leagues right now instead of hitting the gym / recovering from my car wreck I'd be inclined to play in the BCS league continuing the run from last year. It would be cool to build up a team for 2 seasons.

Hope you get better soon. Injuries and recovery sucks.

Yeah, if you are avid enough, the new game has a lot to offer. I don't know who did the review for Kotaku, but it sounds like the thing a casual football fan might say. I don't thinnk they always get what the avid fan is actually looking for.

Despite the niggling issues this, and every other football game to appear on a console, has the gameplay on the field is actually significantly better. and while I am not a fan of the custom playbooks, that might be one of th most requested features the game has had. I'm not sure I could go back to 11, at this point.

When is our expected start date for this? Do we have a consensus on the 12?

I could be convinced to take a 4* team in this dynasty and play ND in the Top 25 conference SpyNavy is running if that is what people prefer. (That being said, my preference would be to play ND here and see if there's going to be a 2* dynasty again...). Still, I'm flexible. I just wonder if we shouldn't update the original post to reflect committed players so we know how many we have.

I created a private dynasty to get a feel of what I can and can't do as commissioner. All I did was set it up at this point, but looks like I will need to find out who is taking what school before I set it up. I am looking at an August 1st date to start. Will add more to this tomorrow.

One other thing SpyNavy. The BCS league is not an exclusive club. I want last year's owners to have a spot, and then I want to invite the people that asked to join during last season, in the order they asked. To be frank, you had a spot last year, and left after 3 weeks. I am not holding that against you in the sense you are not allowed back in, but I am asking you to get back in line, which I believe you did at one point express interest to rejoin. When I figure out where and when people asked to join, I will let you know where you fall. But until that is figured out, I am going to gaurentee spots to those who were in the league for the long haul and kept it going. There are only 12 spots per online dynasty, which sucks on EA Sports' part, but that's what we're limited to.

No worries. I did leave after three weeks for a number of reasons. Feel free to be frank at any point, I appreciate it. I understand priority to previous players, that makes sense. I have no issue with any of that and I will get back in line etc... I have started a thread for another league and will start looking into the particulars of running it.

Like I said, I don't hold that against you, I just want to be fair. I should have a better feel of who get the invites today, and I think we will need a 2nd league regardless, and I think we can help each other to run a solid couple of leagues.

I'll take a 12 team full-on dynasty over a 32 team barebones crappy franchise any minute of the year.

Teams that come in to question:

5 Star Schools from last season:
Boise St
Notre Dame
Michigan
TCU

Now, for the record, I know Firesloth and Leroy's allegiance to Notre Dame and Michigan (respectively). I also think Counselar was looking into going another route. I want everyone to have fun. We can go one of two ways:

Plan A: If those guys will still have fun going with another team for parody sake, awesome
Plan B: We can keep those 3-4 teams, and place them in the same division

I'm cool with either way. Of course, maybe I should create the forum for the BCS League and then have the discussions officially, to see what everyone else thinks. I have no problem with Firesloth, Leroy, and Hoppa taking those 3 teams (and since Counselar played Boise St last year, I include him in as well, if he wants to keep that school). I'm just trying to avoid someone coming into the league and taking Alabama, when they're from Alaska

Also, things we will need to debate when I open the thread:
-Conference/Division structure
-Do we start out as co-ordinators, or as Head Coaches. I just thought of this, to even the playing field, we can give the lower starred schools the option of starting as coordinator or coach, and force the 5-star schools to start as coordinators
-Sim time, I am thinking of implimenting a 7-day sim period for those periods with a Human vs Human matchup, and a STRICT 4-5 day sim period for those weeks with only Human vs XBox matchups.

Time to go exploring for the waiting list!!!!

One other note, Michigan still officially belongs to Hansome. So if he gives his blessing, Leroy can take over. Here is the school spreadsheet that someone linked on the other thread, start thinking about which teams you guys want to take.

I'd say let's do head coaches with full control for this dynasty. We can start another doing the coordinator path...that might take the place of our 2* idea.

I'm fine choosing a 4* school, but I also think your compromise would probably do the trick. It may be that those teams aren't as highly rated on the field as some 4* prestige schools. Looking at it, at least Stanford, OSU, A&M, South Carolina, MSU, and Arkansas are all rated more highly than ND.

Handsome officially passed Michigan to me in this very thread. You will find that shortly as you hunt for the waiting list.

I'm down for getting put in the same conference as those guys. Fire, Counselor and I rocked the MAC in our 2* dynasty last year. Giving us a fourth will make the division/conference championships interesting.

I'm definately back in on the BCS, same team unless someone else wants 'em, then I could possibly be persuaded to look elsewhere for the right price.

It appears as if you will have to negotiate with him, that's why I wanted to make sure he is still willing to pass on Michigan.

HansomB1derful wrote:

I'm willing to pass on the maize and blue. Do we have official team lists yet?

This was from last week

BUT!!!! I will be Cincinnati in this dynasty and take Michigan in Spy's.

I think the key word on that is WILLING. I am fine either way.

I am thinking of Tennessee instead of Pittsburgh.

eww

I'll look at teams tonight, and I'll pick one, with Boise State as a backup plan.

Kush, no chance in you giving me Alabama because I lost 51-7?

Brilliant!

LMAO! Well played

Official Waiting List (Listed the date of request):

1. Airicc8 (Before 2/21)
2. Omega Girr (2/22)
3. Zellbrige (3/28)
4. Ihaida/Indiana (5/22)
5. SpyNavy (5/23)
6. Breadmanben (July)

There was another person that asked to join, but that was back in Jan/Feb, and he posted 3 times since joining the site, and they were all in reference to joining the league, so no dice.

*EDIT*
I'll send private messages to the league members and these 5 on the waiting list, to see if they really want in.
Estimated start date of BCS league: August 1, 2011.

Kush, thanks for the PM. It looks like since there is a 2nd league and your start date is when I will be back, I won't be holding anyone up. I will also reply to you personally. I will join as soon as I am back on Hawaii, and I will stick with my initial choice of building up the Hawaii Warriors. I will probably not be able to play before my first week in our league, so take it easy on me if I get a head to head game!!!! Thanks..

And as a side note, I've been sitting in a Statistics class the past week. Z-scores are for the birds. Hopefully I can start focusing on YAC and completion %'s sometime soon!!
