I wonder, if he'd have pump faked to the short guy, if the same play would've happened, leaving the other receiver wide open deep.

Maybe, but does it matter? The defender cuts as the offensive player does (and as the QB starts to throw). It's still cheating...especially since the game doesn't model where the defender is looking. If he was looking back, you could at least note that when making the decision to throw...

Wow! That was like Spider-man.

It also seems to me like the user receiver control is not as responsive as last year's edition. Maybe I have to get used to it.

Honestly I think this is a huge problem. I would have a lot fewer issues with coverage if receivers did creative things to get open or put themselves between the defender and the ball more often.

As an test, yesterday I picked up a used copy of NFL 2k5 to see if I was crazy that 2k didn't have these issues. There were batted balls by LBs, but literally the next game after waxing the CPU 112 - 14 with 1,000 yards passing I played a nice sane game in 2k5. I won 21-14, there were numerous punts, 110 yards rushing for Stephen Davis on 4 yards per carry and a 45% passing percentage. It was difficult on the default setting and not in a cheesy way. The receivers would beat their defending CB/LB and get space about a third of the time. Often they would then be picked up by a safety. So if you hit him with the correct timing you could complete the pass. Unlike in EA football games where that same pass is likely to be batted down by anyone within 10 feet of the path of the ball's flight.

So I tend to agree with what you're saying. The AI (offense and defense) is the big problem. That and I'm not convinced that the engine is flexible enough to support really good AI.

To be fair, the defender cuts as the QB releases the ball, not as he starts to throw. He is still running downfield while the QB is in his throwing motion. The video is bad enough without exaggerating.

If you watch closely enough, you can see the defender Tweeting that he's about to make a sweet play...

It seemed like he hesitated a little bit. Is that why? LOL!

"Pick 6 coming soon. U see. #crymoarqb"

Took me a little while, but I think I have a good grasp on the offensive mechanics and the right audibles and hot routes to mitigate the super LBs and psychic DBs. I had to move out of the spread for the most part and move back to compression to make some of the reads easier. Running isn't too bad from most of the pro formations, but I likes me some passing. I wish the runs were a bit better out of the shotgun, I should be able to blow up 3DL sets, but I don't get consistency. The game is growing on me though, omniscient defenses and all.

The best psychic DB video yet. This DB runs the in route the WR was supposed to run before he broke off the pattern and went deep.

Well, that looks like a CB guessing and getting it wrong. I don't find that as problematic as the last one...just dumb.

I finally got a chance to play two games tonight as ND vs. Purdue and USF, the latter the beginning of an offline dynasty. I didn't really see much in the way of psychic players. The defense does seem tougher than last year. They do jump on some routes they wouldn't have touched last year, esp. underneath routes in a zone. In particular, those short outs to the flat are less likely to be successful than last year. The running game is tough going right now. I had a good game against Purdue, but didn't fare so well against USF, although their defense is a B+ or about that. I had to work for the points I got against USF.

Noticed a couple annoying things. The art director for this game should be taken out back and beaten. They touted their HDR and all the other crap for this year's game, but they WAY over did it on the bloom effects and some of the HDR stuff. I played the USF game in the bright sunlight, and all the colors were very washed out. Plus, the bloom was over the top...and persistent. Ever notice how the bloom seen when kicking off sticks around in the lower left and right corners of the screen when the camera switches to the receiving team? If not, you will now. And you'll grit your teeth every time you see it. You're welcome.

Saw some funny glitches. During one of the cut scenes late in the game, where they gave a game summary or recap, it showed the ND players gathered around their coach and then breaking the huddle. What's funny about that? The fact that the USF QB was in on the huddle and ran back out patting an ND player on the back.

Overall my general impression so far (based on very limited play) is more positive than I thought it would be. I've even (mostly) gotten used to the changes in the play calling.

PS. Oh, and did I mention that even the text in many of the dynasty menu pages has bloom on it? CUT IT OUT!

Yeah, that's what I was referring to when I commented on the demo. I would have rather they left the graphics as they were. They looked fine.

In one shot of the opposing coach last night, the bloom from the lights completely obscured his face and much of his body. No self-respecting camera man would let that happen. I agree that the graphics mostly looked fine last year, but I guess you have to do this stuff for the bullet points on the back of the box...

Like the dreadlocks. The dreadlocks look ridiculous. On LaMichael James they look like something fake you'd wear for Halloween to dress up like someone with dreadlocks.

This has been my general take. I was replaying a lot of plays yesterday to see if the psychic thing was really going on. And to be honest, I just didn't see it. But then, I don't see it in either of the clips shown here. There are DBs jumping routes, but many times, when a DB is moving before the WR, he is reacting to the QB. But I also realize that all players are rated for play recognition and awareness. I'd expect a CB rated highly to read a play more often than a lower rated DB.

But the game is tougher. I'm definitely throwing a ton more picks. But many of them are to guys that would have been considered open last year, but DB's that used to stand braindead last year are jumping in front. I wish the WR's got coded with a little bit of aggressiveness. Too often they are willing to stand and wait for a pass instead of fight for it.

What do you mean you didn't see it? You didn't find it strange that a DB running with one WR, with his head turned from the play, was able to hit the brakes, turn, and intercept a pass that wasn't thrown to his receiver?

I think the second video I reposted from Operation Sports is equally damning. The DB runs a route, for pete's sake. He runs a route anticipating where the WR is going. He does a 90 degree turn to cut for the in route as the WR is adjusting his route.

I saw a CB stop as the WR ran out of his zone. He then picked up the guy coming into his zone. I might be totally wrong, but that's what I saw.

But more importantly, I don't see it it the game I am playing. It might happen occasionally, but even that can be attributed to play rec and awareness.

So when it does happen to you, you'll be ok with it then?

DBs don't stop on a dime when a WR leaves their zone. The AI is jenky. Is it so hard to admit that? That DB, if anything, should have stuck with the WR until...

A) He was sure he was picked up

B) Someone else was making his way into the zone

Or, he should never have run with him full speed. If he really was playing a tight zone he'd shade the receiver briefly then pass him off and wait for anyone else entering the zone.

Once again, the outcomes are better than last year in terms of realism, but the game looks weird. DBs turning on a dime and turning around to make picks while not actually playing proper defense. SpyNavy himself said that he's adjusted to it, but I'm assuming adjusting to it means understanding that this fake AI is the way things are going to be and learning to play around it. I've done the same thing. Obviously. I hung 112 points on a team. I rushed for 180 yards last night with my RB. It's possible to do damage against this defense. But it's just so wrong the way it plays. And the consequence of that is that you have to forget actual football and read the defenses as a broken video game.

To be fair as well part of my issue is that the defense is equally bad in other ways. I've been tempted to connect my 360 through a computer so I can record some of these replays. I'm seeing things like linemen standing in place while DT stunts them and not bothering to pick them up. I'm seeing DTs and LBs run inches past a HB and taking forever to turn around and pursue them. The AI is broken on both sides in ways that are discouraging.

I was able to play some RtG last night, and I am enjoying it so far. Granted, I only played 1 game in the High School regular season, but I enjoyed going back and adding schools I used to play football against, and getting a similar color scheme for their school as in real life. It really brings me back to the days where.............................where I sat the bench and watched my teammates play. It's hard finding playing time when you're 1 of 6 senior WRs, and your coach runs a wishbone offense, and passes once a game, if that.

But damnit, coach Bob Demarco was an awesome coach. Famous for many sayings, such as:

-Never get in a piss fight with a bulldog
-Real men piss in the shower

(And my all-time personal favorite):
"I DON'T WANT TO HEAR ABOUT "IF"s!!! "IF" MY AUNT HAD BALLS, SHE'D BE MY UNCLE!!!!"

Hah. Didn't really search for any teams before I started. Might do that next time. Since I didn't get the ironman 5* achievement or the "win high school championship" achievement (bugged, since I did win it ) I'll definitely do one more run of ironman football to try to pick those up.

What's really sad is they added this cool idea to import teambuilder teams and use them in RtG, but they still won't let you use custom rosters once you get to college. Especially since 4 years in college is the meat of the mode. Maybe next year, right? Another $60 and we'll almost get a complete game mode that started 3 years ago?

So, one thing that impressed me last night: my QB scrambled out a bit to the left, and there was nothing open downfield. One of my WRs had run a little curl/stop route and was downfield by about 8 yards just a bit inside of my QB. He had a LB playing zone standing slightly in front and to the outside of him. The rush was coming, so I flung the ball his way, but aimed it pretty far inside of him to stay away from the LB.

The ball actually went where I aimed it! My WR took a half step, reached out, grabbed the ball, and then took off for an extra 5 yards before someone brought him down.

I loved that I could aim the ball where I wanted it to go *and* that my WR went to it!

EDIT: Also, does it seem like they've nerfed screen passes a bit by making it harder to hit your RB in stride? I found my guy was often stopping, losing all of his momentum, and then having a hard time getting going again.

They have nerfed a lot of plays. The counters I used to depend on do not develop nearly as well as they did last year.

I have some sliders I am pretty happy with. They also seem to tone down a lot of the super pass defense we have been seeing. I've just played a few really good games with these amd the INTs are way down, and even the leaping LB's don't seem so prevalent. These are based on SN's All-American slider over at OS. But I have also adjust them quite a bit, as I did last year when we used them in the 2Star league. Would love to hear some feedback on these now.

Seen some slider posts that mention penalties seem a little skewed high on 5-min quarters if you turn them up to 90-100 like some of those settings. Might have to play around with this more for a quicker game.

I've been playing eight minute quarters, which seem like the sweet spot.

Part of the deal with penalties are that they are affected by your gameplan settings. If you go aggressive, it can cause you to commit more penalties. I normally roll pretty much neutral. I don't go aggressive until I get a feel for the game.

But at the settings I posted, there are still far fewer penalties a game than there are in real life. There just isn't any pass interference or defensive holding. But I do feel like false starts and holding are fairly relaistic this year.

PS3 rosters finally up, at least a version 1. Probably only posting this for myself, but I'm posting it anyway, jerks. :p

Probably more updates coming. Think they got tired of all the "when is it out?" questions and are just going to get it out there, let some people look at it, and then take corrections from the fans.

Can someone explain to me how to embed YouTube around here?

Use youtube in the [] with /youtube to close it. And I think just the part after v= is all you need between the brackets.

Yep.
