Portal 2 Catch-All

Just played Patent Pending. It's really fun. I wish they had more of a Little Big Planet for user created content. You have to jump through a couple small hoops to play custom maps. It's well worth the tiny bit of effort to play some of the puzzles people have created.

That's something that goes back to the days of quake, bringing down the console and typing 'map mapname'. It's one thing I'd like to see valve improve across all their games, a standard UI to manage and launch all the custom maps, and even assist in downloading/updating them. If you play any multiplayer game the server browser will put up as many custom maps as it does official maps, and I've little idea how good they are, I know there's a world of content out there but there's a little barrier to entry they could ease.

I kind of figured they would be doing this sooner rather then later with Portal 2. Given that the only way the game will be played much past beating the standard levels. I am sure it's schedule in valve time.

Even just lifting the challenges menu from Portal 1 would be a good step.

I've been playing through all the summer mapping initiative SP levels and they are all pretty awesome.

Awesome video! The chicken part at the end got me.

I'd like an invite to our fine group as well please. Will start this game right after I've finished Batman...

Thought this was a great little "Thinking with Portals" video

invite sent

Dunno, if I am in the Steam group yet. If not invite please. Also, I am looking for someone to play the coop campaign with.

I played it a little. It was fun but I got totally stuck in the room in the picture below. I spent about 20 minutes trying to figure it out and got nowhere close.

Haha! Yeah, there were a couple tough ones. I think that one took me 30-60 minutes. I tried quite a few things.

That's the exact puzzle that defeated me.

If you guys were wondering what the main gist of the solution was:

Spoiler:

From what I remember, you have to setup the lens cube down by the laser with two portals causing the laser to hit the first receiver. At least one has to be in a spot where you can hit it from the red anti-human killer thing (basically the viewpoint shown in that screenshot. Once you travel through the now orange tractor beam, and then walk through the doorway that removes your portals. If you go over to the spot where that screenshot was taken from, you can now hit the point where the laser is and hit the spot inside to get a second lens cube dropped. Leave the cube in the spot right by the red anti-human shield thing and head back to the main area. You can then use the tractor beam to get the 2nd cube over to you. With the 2 lens cubes, you can hit the third laser receiver.

I think that's all correct. I might have messed something up because it's been a few days and I tried so many different things.

Edit: Just checked some youtube videos for fun, and there were much more logical solutions than mine. I missed something really stupid. That may have been the wine's fault.

haha... this is how I solve it too.

I reckon that this is the correct solution

Spoiler:

all the videos on youtube that show the solution where you can jump and hit the upward facing laser receiver/target seem to be a bit of an exploit.

Just played Angry Bombs. It's a great single level.

Played another session. About 2,5 to 3 hours into the original game. Met my favorite turret again. Such a great game so far, although...

Spoiler:

... Wheatley going rogue was kinda disappointing.

I feel like they explain it in a more unique way than what I assumed had happened, though.

I started the game just recently as well and didn't have time to play too much (loove the first 20 or so minutes though). Here's the question: is it a good idea to play coop first and singleplayer campaign later? I'm planning to play with my brother and I like the idea of both of us exploring the game for the first time in tandem. Will I be missing some important things/skills this way?

No, either is fine.

GLADoS + Sniper + Banjo = Awesome.

Nerd chills

Either way is fine, but the co-op does take place after the single-player, and is more difficult. There isn't really much in the way of single-player spoilers in the co-op, though, but I would imagine the better experience overall is to go single-player, then co-op.

I would say just finish the SP before doing the last chapter (5 i think) of the MP there are a couple spoilers there.

Played another hour this morning (and almost missed a conference call because of it -.-). Encountered the gels and a certain gentleman. Sooo good. Unless they screw up the story royally during the last few minutes, there's no way this game won't end up on the top spot of my favorite games of all time.

I too just finished it a few days ago, and boy you are gonna LOVE the ending.

I don't recall seeing this before but could have missed it. The first video is of dialogue, presumably from the rat man, near a wall in a side room in the game. Don't watch if you haven't played, though I don't think this is really a spoiler so posting it here. The second video is where some has isolated the rat manish files-- still don't make any sense. Still, interesting.

I'm finally working thru Portal 2. I was wondering on test 12/22, if this is the only solve, or if others came up with a different solution.

Spoilers, only view if you've completed 12/22.

Spoiler:

after getting the cube, I took the cube to position 1, shot orange across (see the blue line) and dropped down to it, position 2. then I set the cube down, and lept off the position 2 bridge, and on the way down I shot orange in the spot you see it. I landed on the new bridge and was fortunate that the cube fell to final bridge without falling off.

I can't remember the puzzle exactly, Jeff, but:

Spoiler:

Why didn't you just shoot the portal nearest you beneath you and keep doing that do you dropped down with the cube in hand?
