X:Rebirth Catch All

Pages

Didn't see a thread created for this yet (tho the x3tc one is still going strong). I'm super hyped about this one, sounds like some interesting changes are gonna be implemented.

From the egosoft main site:

The space simulation X Rebirth heralds more than just an additional chapter within the X series, it is a fresh beginning bringing with it a number of gameplay innovations without compromising its successful origins.

In the distant future, the X universe faces a period of profound and irrevocable change. While the universe stumbles towards an uncertain future, countless adventures await as new enemies rise in search of power.

Enter a young adventurer and his unlikely female ally travelling in an old, battered ship with a glorious past - two people alone against the galaxy, playing a key part in the events to come.

The fate of the universe rests in the hands of the player...

X Rebirth represents a spectacular new beginning for the X series, offering loyal fans and newcomers alike a vast, vivid and extremely detailed universe to explore throughout the game.

Varied gameplay elements such as action-packed space combat, detailed trading mechanics and high-speed space exploration with fast travel allow players to experience a truly unique space saga that will keep them hooked for dozens of hours.

X Rebirth for PC is expected to be released in the fourth quarter of 2011.

I've read that there won't be much long distance travel through sectors, which I'm on the fence about. Regardless, I'll be upgrading my computer come oct/nov in preparation for this. One of the biggest releases of the year for me.

I hope they renamed the ship classifications for this. Also, I hope there are more fish people for Grubber to kill.

i read a post to where they are removing the ability to pilot capitol ships from the bridge. wonder if they will add some sort of on the fly 3d map of the sector and let u control your fleet from an interactive map?

I'm pretty sure the plot of the game is that the Boron have taken over and are the greatest rulers the Universe has ever seen. The actual game is a Boron hugging simulator. The enemies in the OP description are overhuggers. You have to kiss them to wean them off of hugging. You and your companion are the only people who can kiss, so you have to kiss all the Borons to save them from overhugging.

Actual kissing simulator hardware will be distributed along with fish slime packs for the full effect.

KGN Interview with Bernd Lehahn at FedCon XX

The transportation system will be much different. Instead of just flying from one place to another through the lonely void of space, there will be closer interaction and proximity with other ships.

Things haven't been left out just because they're hard to develop, rather we've concentrated on bring in gameplay features that are 'cooler'. Previously, for example, it was possible to pilot a capital ship from its bridge. No more. It took many players a long time to get to the point where they would own one and it wasn't a huge amount of fun to fly.

How trade is done is even different. There's no landing to pick up wares and take them elsewhere. You now overfly the station and see what's on offer. Scanning stations and ships (legal or otherwise) will be important in the game. It was the case before that it didn't matter where you fired. Now the player can identify critical systems and target them.

the targeting specific points definitely sounds awesome!

Previously, for example, it was possible to pilot a capital ship from its bridge. No more. It took many players a long time to get to the point where they would own one and it wasn't a huge amount of fun to fly.

This bodes ill. Part of the fun of X is the scale, the sense of accomplishment, and the significantly different play between the start and end-game; removing features because they were hard to get to is symptomatic of the ADD-driven, push-a-button-something-cool-happens bullsh*t that plagues the industry. It's as if Egosoft has forgotten who buys their games.

I'm not sure I like where this is going, but I'll wait and see.

A paraphrase from this video: "It's boring to fly in deep space in a straight line for a long time, so we are bringing the action down to the surface of space stations."

Sounds to me like big open sectors will be replaced by zones dominated by stations and ship traffic. Although his comment could be referring to a number of things. In the video footage I have seen so far, there appears to be large open areas, but most of the time there's an extremely large station dominating the scene. At the very least, Terran Conflict with its massive stations feels like a preview of this next version. It feels like their team is slowly going station crazy. Which will be ironic if we don't even dock with stations any more.

Anyway, that's all rampant speculation. Oops. I said I would wait and see, so I guess I should do that.

Looks shiny. Will give it a shot when it comes out.

I understand the reasoning behind not wanting to pilot capital ships from the bridge. I remember my Boreas was my flagship that I would only fly occasionally, but for general stuff, I would pilot my Skiron (M6).

Whatever. As long as there are fish people to kill. I hope piracy and terrorism is just as valid of a career choice in this game as it was in TC.

Edit: Also, I hate you Garrion, but that plot sounds like the best premise ever. Such a galaxy needs a man willing to get his hands dirty. Such a galaxy needs a hero!

Very pretty, might be my excuse to try the series.

Indeed.

Also, I always see two r's in your name; I need to work on reading more carefully. Otherwise the Boron could gain the upper hand!

PING! Hope I'm done w/ my stuff before this comes out. Really looking forward to it!

As long as you don't think of me as 332. That guy has really f-ed with my reputation around here.

What's the topic of this thread again? Casaboron? Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Boron? Twilight: New Boron?

X Rebirth: The Wrath of Boron?

Yeah we talked about this in the TC thread, but eventually it will need its own. TC thread is getting posts from all the new sale buyers last week.

Is there ANY chance that they will add multiplayer to this? That would make it a day one purchase for me, I think.

I'm playing X3:TC right now. Guess what I'm doing.

This project needs Derek Smart!

Don't contribute to Garion's personal Rule 34. It just encourages him.

I'll also give it a chance to release a demo, drop price to 20$ and release more gameplay trailers. I love X3TC but I've been suspicious of new releases games since I got Moo3 for full price:lol:.

Egosoft haven't released enough media to get me drooling so I'll wait for someone else to test it out for me ;).

Oh please please pretty please!

Pretty doubtful. They've repeatedly explained their stance as being that X is a single-player experience. Not that I'm not with you.

Seconded. While piloting the big capital ships may not have been as much fun for everyone, I had a pretty good time up to at least the corvettes. And the sense of accomplishment can't be understated once you get your first fully functional battleship decked out with weapons in all slots and a full compliment of missiles. Just being able to stand on the main deck and feel like there's nothing in the universe that can touch you(even though you couldn't catch up to a snail.) What they should be doing is improving the capital ship command and controls, but there's only so much budget I guess. I'm pretty confident though that even if they take capital ship control away someone will find a way to mod it back in.

It sounds like that's what they're trying to do:

on the Egosoft forums[/url]]Hi guys,

ok lets be a bit more precise about the capital ships then. Piloting a huge capital ship from the seat of the pilot is boring, therefore we left that out.

ON THE OTHER HAND: The player can own and can command ships and he can use them for a lot more different things than before.

Stations as well as large ships have a lot more ways to interact with them now and your own as well as other factions ships are much more interesting to play with.

Instead of sitting in the cockpit you will assign people to command ships for you.

Hope this clears things up...

I take this to indicate that they meant "flying destroyers won't be like flying fighters anymore", but said it in a way that sounded like Rebirth won't have player-controlled capitals, then had to explain a bit more.

That and the little bit I've seen about player-owned stations having managers suggests that they're trying to make running an empire feel less like sitting in front of a computer and more like interacting with employees.

I'm a little skeptical about how much it'll matter in play (will that just mean that some menus take the form of perfunctory dialogue with NPC's, without anything substantive changing?), but it's an interesting idea.

So, can I still command my capital ships from aboard a capital ship? If so, I'm sold.

I actually agree with what they're doing there. Commanding a huge capital ship should be nothing like piloting a small fighter. Just imagine the real-life difference between driving around a little inflatable compared to being the captain (commander?) of an aircraft carrier.

If they could capture that experience, that would be fantastic.

In X3, I find flying a new capital ship fun for the first fifteen minutes, but after that you just want to get somewhere!

As long as you don't think of me as 332. That guy has really f-ed with my reputation around here.

331 was pretty cool. Shame 332 got him. I hope you jumped on his corpse a couple times, maybe did a little teabagging.

We're never going to agree about the Boron, but I'm totally with you there. At this point, I'm hoping that Rebirth will let me be the admiral on the bridge rather than choosing between the roles of helmsman and gunner.

I liked flying my cap ships from the bridge. All the turrets would be on auto-targeting, but the main big-ass guns would be all mine.

Where did the X series land on HOTAS/joystick support? I seem to recall they were really going mouse-centric. I'm trying to justify getting a Warthog.

Personally, I think a joystick is a must if you plan to do any dogfighting. And if you're not planning to dogfight, what the hell's wrong with you?! Even flying cap ships I preferred a joystick.
