NCAA Football 2012 game catch-all

Boo, those are the only other two EA Sports games I have any interest in but just like with NCAA it's been a while since I played (09 for NHL and I think 08 for Tiger). From what you're saying it sounds like this only really impacts online which I don't play since I'm quite bad. I still don't like that they're doing it and it's probably going to come to mind every time I think about picking up another game.

The gameplay is the sweetness fans expect, but it's largely unchanged. That's not a knock -- you don't need to reinvent the wheel every year -- but it does keep NCAA Football 12 from feeling like a groundbreaking experience. Instead, it's more like a special edition of NCAA Football 11, which I'm more than happy to play for hours and hours.

Tiger is really bad, although you can avoid the biggest part (the courses) with the Wii version. It always comes with all 25-30 courses. But the PS3/360 ones come with only 17 or so, and then the next 10 are all DLC, between $5-7 a pop depending on which year you're talking about. Pretty messed up though.

Day 1 update
On my phone or I would copy the whole thing.

Some good updates there. I am loving the custom playbook feature. Helps get rid of worthless plays and formations and lets you concentrate on formations you like. I like being able to have ALL the plays of a certain formation without artificial limits. I also like being able to mix Pro and Spread. Should have some great applicability in D as well.

Going to be so tired at work tomorrow.

Out for delivery.

Got my bonus starter guide from Amazon already. 32 pages of PDF guide.

I feel my will crumbling...

A) Because there is a new NCAA game

B) Because I love football

C) Because there is a new NCAA game and you can now buy it off a store shelf

Quick question for anyone who does this. What kind of paper do you use to print off custom covers? I'm thinking of picking it up, but then covering up that terrible Alabama cover with Oregon State.

Man these rosters are a mess.

I saw some of the roster makers complaining, so I went in to check on Louisville. While the official roster on the UofLSports site lists 90 guys, obviously there are only 70 on the in game roster. Duplicate numbered players just don't exist. Some guys are switched around between positions. I really have a new appreciation for how hard it is just to do basic renaming and numbering and get guys in the right positions.

First time I've ever bought this series day 1, so I'm really not used to not having named players ready to go.

Tempting to try out Road To Glory since it randomized names last year anyway. Not sure if they fixed that but it might be fun to just play.

I can't start a dynasty with numbered guys or fake names. It just isn't the same.

Yeah, in the past I would always wait for one of the trusted rosters that comes out of Operation Sports. I don't remember the names but there's one guy who does rosters of players as they actually exist in the game. Just basically naming them. There is another individual who rerates players and changes rosters dramatically and is usually really good at it. I'll be interested to see how these turn out.

My recollection is that you can only take the renamed rosters into an Online Dynasty. So I will be curious you guys doing the online leagues (even if I pick up the game I'm not doing leagues for a while) are able to use custom rosters this year.

Fairdale Kings should get a set out in a week or two. I like his rosters becasue the doesn't ouch the ratings. You have to be careful as some guys want to "fix" the ratings, and really just make their favorite teams good, and players they don't like bad.

Rosters for the PS3 might take a bit longer, because know one really plays sports games on the PS3.

I think Fairdale Kings (from Louisville!) is the 360 one you're thinking of, just renaming.

Some guy at OS named buckeye02 did the PS3 ones last year that were pretty solid. I still ended up tweaking the depth chart a bit but it was mostly right.

They are currently both working on rosters, 360 thread estimate is Thurs, PS3 one is Sun. I think both had the games a few days early too, for an idea of how long this crap takes.

I was going to just redo Louisville today to get started but I'm not sure it's worth the bother if I'm just going to replace it this weekend.

I won't use re-rated rosters. I think the most fair way to go is to use what EA puts out. There is no "real" rating of players, anyway, as it is all conjecture. But unless you are going to actually fix every single player in the game, it just throws the balance off.

We all used Fairdale's roster for both leagues, and I thought they worked fine.

The only time I like to re-rate players is when there's a player who has a break out year. Sometimes freshman come out and dominate yet their game rating is low.

Looks like another renamed PS3 roster might actually be done today, over at gaming tailgate.

() break link I think.

Maybe QB Teddy Bridgewater at UofL.

Still doesn't officially have the starting job, but the kid graduated early, enrolled in Jan and participated in spring practice. The guy they put for him in-game is a OVR 73, only 2 points below the JR starter.

I know who I'll be tweaking and using for my personal dynasty anyway.

The problem I have with re-rating is that too often i misses the point. I think James Sims is going to be a beast this year for Kansas. Part of it is that his OL is going to be better. So if I "fix" the roster by boosting Sims, I screw any other RB that tries to run behind the line. Then I have to affect the right OL and maybe find realize that the kid is getting his yards to to an really improved RG more than anything else. If I just raised the entire OL, then I am screwing with the DL rating of all of the other teams.

I can see boosting your own players for your own private use. While I wouldn't, becasue I am nerd for sim, anything you want to do to make the game more fun for yourself is cool.

But when it comes time for a roster that a group of us will use, the most fair way to go is to just use the ratings EA came up with. You have to hope they are balanced. But it's not like anyone was rushing out to lower Georgia Tech's and Texas' ratings.

It's easier to consider a roster set an alternate universe where guys perform to the level EA's scouts have determined. As long as games produce about the right amount of stats for each team, I'm not going to get worked up over who gets them.

Exactly. For instance, I'm pretty sure Pryor is still gonna be on OSU and OSU is going to suck balls to recruit against(which now makes a ton of sense from NCAA11)

Stuff like that needs to be fixed.

I boosted Denard Robinson's speed. Anyone who thinks he's not a 97+ speed is smoking a ton of crack

Someone has already uploaded the NCAA 12 Starter Guide that Amazon gave out. It was just a .pdf document after all.

It's a pretty interesting read, points out some key plays for certain situations. Not sure how well they actually stack up in game yet, or against what difficulty. Still browsing through it.

I thought it was interesting that the manual is actually on the disc, to save paper. Not bad EA Sports, not bad at all.

Too bad I probably can't reference the manual DURING an actual game, lol.

Here's a google doc someone is working on of the playbooks for this year.

Guess that might help if you want to stick with a team, like last year, or maybe give you a good base to choose from for a custom one. Not as necessary though when you can browse the plays while making the custom playbook.

I got my copy. I might start an offline dynasty tonight, but I never got past the first couple of games offline last year.

I'm just waiting for the GWJ leagues to start.

I agree. I couldn't remember the name, but those are the rosters I've always used. For my personal dynasty last year, though, I used someone else's. Pasta Padre? Roman Caesar? Someone out there does a good job of re-rating. Mostly doing what someone else said and bringing rookies up a bit after the season starts or fixing glaring issues in the rosters. I like to use those for my personal dynasties.

If anyone wants to play a pickup game, let me know.

This is pretty nuts. I fired up a Road to Glory career, and it looks like it lets you play the entire senior year of high school, instead of just the playoffs, but it's highly customizable. I found a 2003 (my graduating year) season schedule from my high school, found the teams on that schedule in the teambuilder, and then imported them all, so I'm essentially playing that year exactly.

Many folks may think this is strange or useless, but I think it's pretty dang cool. The only complaint with the game so far is the dang glare effect they have on the menu screens.

Wow. I'd heard that Road to Glory strangely saw a significant upgrade. That's more significant than I would have expected. What do you mean when you say you "found" the teams in the teambuilder? As in someone else created them? I think it would be fun to at least go create teams and unis for my high school and then replay my senior season as well. Especially because I was a dumb lineman instead of a cool HB or QB.

Also because we went 4-4 after a promising 5-3 season the year before.

So it found all of that for you?

Yeah RtG is much improved from what I can tell. Working through that now as well since those high school names were going to be random anyway.

Having trouble getting any love as a Safety though. My WR career looks ok, but they just never throw near me as S. I get 1-2 tackles a game when someone breaks through to my level and that's about it.

Sorry, I should have clarified. You can search the teambuilder in NCAA 12 for teams that other people have created. You can also create them yourself, provided you can find good reference pictures on the internet. You get 12 team slots for free, which essentially means you can download or create 12 teams from the teambuilder. You can evidently buy more slots, but I have no idea why this is something they're charging for. I'm also not sure if this is something you can still use without the online pass.
