Freedom from the Pile!

Pages

It's summer, and the only way to beat the heat is to stay inside and play lots of video games in the air conditioning. That's how we roll in the dirty south...

If you're interested, m0nk3yboy, has the 12 month pile plan thread over here.

A quick reminder, in order to be considered "Pile of Shame" the game needs to be at least three months old. Otherwise, it's just a new game you haven't gotten to playing yet.

Also, if you are curious about some of the previous threads, Pick's of the Pile, etc... Please go here and check out the Google doc I setup.

Let's get on to the games!

This Month's Pick of the Pile is

[size=30][b]Clive Barker's Jericho

"Certain depictions and ancient scriptures dictate a being created by God in His own image before the creation of Adam and Eve; according to legend, this being was abandoned by its own Creator. Called the Firstborn. God was so disturbed by what He created that He banished it into the Abyss. God then started anew and went on to create mankind, giving the species two sexes, feelings, and love.

The Firstborn, too powerful for even God to keep from breaking into the mortal world, would make seven attempts to escape, each time taking back a piece of the earth to add to its domain and each time sent back to the Abyss. Fragments of time and space would form layers around this domain, linked to this world in the city Al Khali. These layers would entrap pieces of history within its walls, from the time of the ancient Sumerians to World War II. Over time, other great conquerors and civilizations would arrive to claim the city as their own. Eventually, the city was forgotten and buried by the sands of time.

The Department of Occult Warfare was created in the 1930s to combat the supernatural and unexplained. Another purpose was to meet Nazi Germany's own research into the paranormal. One of their most brilliant members, Arnold Leach, was recruited in 1962. However, his unscrupulous behavior and nature would eventually have him expelled. He was marked for assassination, and although the operation appeared to be successful, it seems that he may have survived.

The Jericho Squad is sent to Al-Khali to prevent Leach from opening the breach and unleashing the Firstborn upon mankind once again." (wikipedia.org)

Mark me down for Bayonetta (PS3 in my case). I'm two chapters in, and it's utterly insane so far. But fun - really, really fun.

Hemidal, please put me down for Fallout: New Vegas on the PC. I really need to start clearing out my backlog so I can play my upcoming games.

This is my first time chiming in on a pile thread Sign me up for Heroes of Might & Magic V (PC) please. I bought this damn thing on launch day years ago and never played it. Seeing it in the Steam sale today has reminded me of my interest and failure. Plus I think #6 is coming out soon.

*sigh* Once more, Clive Barker's Jericho. Once I've managed to actually dedicate a bit of time to this and get through the little bit of it that is left, I'll pledge more games to the pile.

Transformers is down. Not a bad little game. Enough fan service and "holy crap, Optimus Prime is awesome" to make me want a sequel.

Working my way through Spellforce at the moment (just the original campaign, for now).

You should be able to make it through that entire game in about 8 hours - and it isn't terrible.

Also - put me down for Final Fantasy 13 again, please.

Put me down for Infamous, please. I'm going to try to knock out a couple other small games also, but let's start with that.

I quite enjoyed it, and I'm not a big FPS fan (I know, why else own a 360?).

Pop me down for the Half life trilogy (HL2, HL2: Ep1 and HL2: Ep2). I got side tracked by my own backloggery, so I'll be dipping into my unrealised 147 title XBLA pile in the very near future... Man those DotWs certainly catch up on you.

I'll also (hopefully) be doing a six month look at how our 12 month plan is going over in that thread soon. Just a list some stats (number of goals achieved, etc). Thanks to everyone involved, and keep on chipping away at it all.

I am so ashamed to see Baldur's Gate up there yet again. Also, I hate werewolves. They are NOT fuzzy friends.

Uggh, another month of gamer ADD and nothing finished.

Bioshock is almost beaten - put me down for another month please.

In spirit of the Steam summer sale, I'm also putting myself down for Shogun 2. Almost to the Realm Divide so I should be able to finish it.

Anyone interested in helping me beat Left for Dead 2? I have one or two missions left.

After a couple of months away from the thread, it's time for me to tackle a few more games from my backlog. With that in mind, I'll try to get through Assassin's Creed (360) and I'll make an attempt to get back into the Strong Bad episodes with Strong Bad Episode 2: Strong Badia the Free (Mac). I've really enjoyed the other Telltale Series I've played, but Strong Bad just didn't grab me with the first episode. It felt too ... random or something. Like I had no clue what I should have been doing. I'll give it another shot, though.

Carry over Fable 3 and Puzzle Quest 2 for me, please.

Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed what I've played so far of Jericho. I'm at the end of the chapter before last, unless I'm mistaken. The problem is, lately, time for gaming seems so unbelievably scarce. So much so that I've had sacrilegious thoughts such as selling off my systems... but not too seriously

first time in the pile. please add me for Red Faction: Guerrilla (pc) :/

Please put me down for Velvet Assassin on the Xbox 360. It's a very flawed game but I'm still enjoying the sneaking around and the morphine and all.

Arrgh. I really need to swear off Warcraft and start adding some good SP in here.

*sigh*

Please put me down for Dragon Age. It WILL fall!

Coolbeans wrote:

It's a pleasure seeing that one through to the end, Coolbeans. I was ambivalent towards much of the Bioware Plot that DA:O lazily employed, but the last hour or two is worth the price of admission.

Fable 3 is done. I knew I was close. Thumbs up. I'll post more detailed impressions after the weekend.

Admitting you have a problem is the first step on the road to recovery....

(I'm almost 2 years clean from WoW/MMOs now!)

I'd have given it up long ago, but the wife liked playing (and then it became a time invested thing). I only play now to kill an hour here or there collecting things, but if it wasn't there to tempt me, I might make headway on Witcher or some of my PS3 games.

I can't agree on the "almost beaten" part, but I have made some good progress (about 7 hours in? - just entered Fort Frolic) on my laptop. It's ugly, but at least it doesn't CTD every few seconds. So, yeah, Bioshock for me too.

Let's also toss Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies (DS) up there as my long-shot of the month. I'm level 19 and almost 15 hours in, so it's going pretty well.

I also really want to finally get Back to the Future - episode 2: Get Tannen! (PC) off of my conscience.

Same here. I plowed on, though, and episode 3 is where I started getting into it.

Alright, this is the month that Hotel Dusk happens. I've got about four hours to go, maybe less, I can do it.

Put me up for Shadow of the Colossus (PS2). But with or without GameFAQs? Hmmm...

Itsathief wrote:

Without, the beauty of that game is the discovery of each Colossus...

Spoiler:

Unless you've been at it for 20 minutes+ without making any headway, if that's the case, FAQ away.

Itsathief wrote:

Still waiting for the PS3 re-release.

Hm no game to declare yet. Be back later.

I gots me some issues with concentration. Put me down for...

Edit: Forgot about the 3 month thing. I'll come back when I'm way behind.

Going to add another couple to the pile : Rogue Trooper and Clive Barker's : Jericho

I'm planning on finishing Batman: Arkham Asylum GOTY. I bought it on goodjer recommendations, and they were right, it's a great game!
