Steam Summer Sale 2011: Best community ever (every last one of you)

This is me. I may never play Might & Magic 2 again, but I have it if I ever do decide to.

Yep, same here. I think it's the same part of my brain that tends to horde useless crap because "I might need that someday..."

The difference is that this useless crap doesn't take up physical space, so while I fight the other kind of hording, I tend to sort of let it go during these sales.

Not that Ghost Recon is crap, but what are the chances I'll ever fire it up again?

Anyway, my realistic wish list is pretty small:

Civ V for $15
DA:O for $10ish
Fallout: New Vegas for $15 (would probably be without DLC for that price)
Frozen Synapse for $12 or so
Atom Zombie Smasher $5
Sanctum for $5

I now have 3 Iphone apps to help me watch the upcoming steam sale...

I really need to seek help

Hmm, what does it matter that people have big lists already? The point is, they are able to buy wanted games at a greatly reduced cost and be able to play them down the road.

I usually spend all my money on the $10 dollar or less deals and maybe one or two $25 deals on new games.

I missed the last time Far Cry 2 was the daily deal, so that's my wish list: FC2 for 75% off. I've finished it twice on 360, but I want to play it properly, as God intended.

Do tell! They should have a Steam iPhone app!

Count me among the virtual collectors. I've been getting better, though.

I'm hoping for discounts on:
DA:O - Complete
Fallout 3 GOTY
Fallout: New Vegas
Civ V DLC

I'm always a sucker for a cheap indie game pack or ten.

This is where it is awesome that my computer is so old (5 years about), and can't play the majority of games out there that will show up on steam.

I play everything I get on the sales. I may not finish them, but I certainly get my money's worth from them. But then again, I won't buy something I know I won't play, no matter how low the price. For example, if they were giving Splosion Man* away for free, I wouldn't even bother to download it - I know it's not a type of game I would enjoy.

* Apologies to all those who love Splosion Man, please don't tell me how wrong I am, that I am missing a great game, etc. etc. etc. That's cool and you are probably correct, but it doesn't matter.

Ding! Ding! Ding!

A game is overpriced at any price if you buy something you won't enjoy.

I find myself often with little to buy on some sales because I've already bought the games at a higher cost because I wanted them enough when they came out. A sale just lowers the financial threshold to buying.

Wow, and I thought I was silly for bookmarking their Twitter and checking it every day at noon to see the daily.

Edit... also, I can log in and buy games from my phone. Heh.

Even better, my friend set up a twitter feed that parses and posts just the daily deals:
http://twitter.com/#!/SteamDailyDeals

Tagging just in case.

That's nice but I also like seeing the other announcememts.

Oh dear... I better prepare my credit card.

Well, the first "deal" might be the fact that TF2 is apparently free forever now.

So, yeah. Do that if you somehow never purchased the Orange Box or TF2. All two of you.

Oh you.

Woot! Steam sale!

Hopefully they have some cool stuff for sale this time. At the Christmas Steam sale, I didn't buy a single thing.

GWJ should issue credit cards. Would be awesome to support this site this way

Let's see what they do for me. I really am not missing too many games on steam that I want.

Tagged,

But what about the games you Don't want, they need loving homes too...

Tagged, although I am nearly impervious to Steam sales. My fear of missing out on something compels me to at least see what the deals are each day. I could possibly go for a $5 Dragon Age: Awakenings.

I'm an accidental collector. I'm always sure I'll play the games I buy, but frequently the allure wears out long before I beat the game. On the other hand, for the most part I only buy games 'super-cheap', so I still usually feel like I've gotten my money's worth.

I mean tag.

No...no...NOOOOOO!!!!! I've barely touched my purchases from the Christmas Sale.

I still haven't touched games I purchased 2 Christmas sales ago >.<

Really, I'm just getting to a point where I understand the "Pile" less. What's the point in accumulating a bunch of a games in a sale if you're not going to have played most of them by the time the next sale rolls around? I would be shocked if anyone here had bought a bunch of games in the Christmas sale and actually played, or even installed, all of them by now.

I'm the data point you are looking for. To answer your question why I'm buying if I can't play them - Some games were bought to make up for having been a filthy pirate during my broke college-student/office Female Doggo days, others because I have basically no impulse control when it comes to digital purchases.

I'm hoping for X3:Terran Conflict for $5 and Civ 5 for $15

maybe Dirt 3 for $25 and Frozen Synapse for $12 and The Witcher 2 and... oh god it's a steam sale! HIDE MY WALLET.

I remarked about not having L4D2 in IRC earlier today, not 5 minutes later after I said that, Kurrelgyre sends over a copy as a gift ... and I got a free retweet from the Conference Call account as well for the following:

I officially love you fellow Goodjers, even if you are all a buncha filthy enablers sometimes

You need to post more. I like reading posts in the voice of the Professor.

Given that Steam region locks, I'm pretty safe from this one.

Do the region locks stop people getting gifted?

Nope. God Bless them.

I dunno, I'm out of the US and I don't remember any game being region locked...

Wheee! Server crashes abound, and I've got new items but can't access them, and I DON'T CARE! I'VE GOT NEW FRIENDS PLAYING!

Also, boy are there a lot of people complainin' about the new freeloaders. THEY DIDN'T LOSE ANYTHING! I'm more than happy with paying my $30 for 3 years of paid TF2, in addition to HL2 and Portal!

I think AnimeJ had some issues last time as his account was set up in the US, but he was "At an undisclosed location in SW Asia."

That miss match made for his earlier grief. Good to know we can gift him some Goodger love though if the opportunity presents (thanks for the tip Prozac).
