Steam Summer Sale 2011: Best community ever (every last one of you)

I need this guy, for real!

I wouldn't be surprised to see DA2 on there cheap, and there's DLC coming which apparently tests some of the ideas they're looking at for DA3.

Well, lets see how this plays out. There are a number of games on my wishlist that were already cheap at release, but I'm holding out for offerings of less than $5, and not just $4.99. I know it's unlikely for a few of them, and I'm ok and happy with that. I'm not totally opposed to adding games to the pile, but I do try to ask myself if I will get to the game any time soon before clicking the buy button.

Actually, that's a good point: What's on your wishlist for the sale?

Here's mine:
Dragon Age 2 (already own it on Impulse, but come on. It's Impulse).
Assassin's Creed Brotherhood
Dead Space 2
Call of Duty: Black Ops
Atom Zombie Smasher
The Witcher 2
Star Ruler
The Game I Didn't Know I Wanted Until They Put It On a Massive Discount (this one gets me every time)

Consumer despair is strong in this thread.

The Witcher 2 is my main hope but I'm actually hoping for a discount as part of the GoG sale which looks to be pretty disappointing so far.

I put $100 in my wallet so I don't overspend.

I won't overspend

I won't overspend

I won't overspend

On the one hand, I want to work down my pile. On the other hand, at 7 games, my pile is on the smaller side among the people in the 12 month thread, so I can justify getting a couple games, right? Right?

Have I mentioned how pretty/handsome you look today?

Really, I'm just getting to a point where I understand the "Pile" less. What's the point in accumulating a bunch of a games in a sale if you're not going to have played most of them by the time the next sale rolls around? I would be shocked if anyone here had bought a bunch of games in the Christmas sale and actually played, or even installed, all of them by now.

I do fundamentally agree with you - my point was mostly that people should try to buy less games in between these sales if they're going to binge on these sales, thereby accumulating less of a pile and leaving more space to play the games they buy.

It's like, if you're going to go to an all you can eat buffet, that's cool, but how about skipping lunch?

I do admit to having a few games from the Xmas sale left unplayed (DMC4, GTA4 Episodes) but I did give every indie game I bought a shot (and there were a lot). I also bit off a bit more than I could chew because I was on vacation and gaming deprived, so I gamed vicariously through cheap purchases. Plus, DAO Complete, my main purchase from that sale, took more FOREVER to play and beat, mostly because I had to replay the campaign. So it's not my fault!

As for my wishlist (50% off or More):

DA2
Bulletstorm
Drakenskang: The River of Time
The Winter Voices series
Cargo - The Quest for Gravity
Riven

And the last two that never ever go on sale but one can keep holding out hope
Dreamfall - The Longest Journey
STALKER - Clear Sky

Fixed for the inevitable!

I'm also hoping they do some group packs for games. Some awesome deals to be had for crazy small amounts of money.

I have a short with list but money is fairly tight at the moment, so I am looking to score one or two $5 bargains.

Damn you Steam, what don't I already have?!

Start your own store!

And I am still holding out to buy SCII on sale....still waiting....

Oh, not being sold here? Awwww

I'm going to pick up a sweet deal on Skyrim and Deus Ex 3. Yeah, baby!

By my count (using grep and wc against my profile) I'm at 39/213 played. Which gives me a pile of 174 games and played rate of 18%. Who's got me beat? I know I'm not the worst.

Actually, there are several games which I've played and actually finished which don't show up in the "on record" stats, so I'm not as bad at that. I bet I'm well over 20% played.

I just can't say "no" to that beard.

Railworks 2 and all the DLC.

So ignore the clocker and go nuts during sales - but also consume wisely when sales are not on!

It's not always about playing the games. I believe it kind of breaks down like this:

* Some people are natural "collectors"

* For some, there's an enjoyment that comes from the hunting of bargains

* Thrill of a purchase, and getting an item you've been holding out for, on sale

* Enjoyment derived from making the purchase, and ...

* Knowing the item is now "yours" -- and it's there when you want it.

It's not unlike amassing a video/movie collection. A lot of people buy movies they've already seen, and stick them on the shelf and maybe watch a given movie every year or two. But there's a satisfaction that comes from knowing you own something, and that it's there when you want it.

Just my 2¢ on this frequently brought up issue.

This is me. I may never play Might & Magic 2 again, but I have it if I ever do decide to.

Dude, AssCreedBro...Bro.

ENABLERS. ENABLERS EVERYWHERE.

I'm in this boat too. I would much rather give my Witcher 2 money to GoG than Steam.

Otherwise... Fallout New Vegas DLC maybe, but really there isn't much I want that I don't already have.

Subscribed for great justice.

Oh I am in. I have played the majority of the games I bought in past sales. I mean there are some indie games from packs that I haven't gotten around to, but I've played all the major studio games I've bought.

RPS is reporting that the Killing Floor "Summer Sideshow" event will begin on June 30th. So perhaps we have another week before Steam rapes our wallets and plunders our children's college funds.

I'm hoping for a Worms, Terraria or (a man can dream) a hefty discount on the Civ V DLC packs.

Thank goodness I'm going on vacation as this is happening. I'll only be able to check Steam once or twice, and spare my poor wallet.

I think I have 2 or 3 games left in the pile from the winter sale of a massive haul. The only new game I've bought since then has been Witcher 2, so it was a good deal for me. Looking forward to the summer sale.
