Steam Summer Sale 2011: Best community ever (every last one of you)

Maybe there'll be a summer sale this year, and maybe there won't. Maybe some achievements prove there will be?

In any case, discuss it here. And when Valve opens the floodgates and offers you Left 4 Dead for $0.34, knock yourselves out.

Will they do another TF2 hat, or will it be something different this time? A DOTA2 hat?

OK, I thing we've moved past speculation now.

From here.

In for this thread, in to rationalize buying the games I don't own.

No...no...NOOOOOO!!!!! I've barely touched my purchases from the Christmas Sale.

Isn't that how it's meant to be?

Tagging for future poverty, but trying to keep the pile to a minimal bloat this time around.

You could just not buy things.

But...but...cheap games? What is wrong with you?

Wuss.

I had to go light on the last couple sales, but this time... I aim to misbehave!

Oh dear God it hasn't started yet has it? *Checks website* Ok. I have another day to breathe.

The good news is I tend to only go after cheap games, there aren't a lot of games I am interested in, and I now make a lot of money with very little other things to spend it on.

Clockers gonna clock.

I have a pre-set wish list. If things on the wish list go to 50% off or below, they get purchased. I may buy the occasional impulse item if it's in the dirt-cheap category (1-5$), depending. That's my strategy and it tends to work well in terms of limiting my sale purchases to about 5 items.

I've also been trained to wait to buy things during these sales. I think since the Christmas sale I've bought Magicka, Portal 2, The Witcher 2, and Magic 2012 at full price. 4 Full Priced games in 6 months (2 of which were $10) means that I can afford to feed my family and binge a bit during these sales.

So ignore the clocker and go nuts during sales - but also consume wisely when sales are not on!

This would have probably been the perfect time to pick up Crysis 2, but since they pulled it from the store (not sure who "they" ended up being), I don't have much I need to buy. I'd like to pick up Magicka, The Tiny Bang Story, and Terraria. My big maybes will probably be DIRT 3 and FEAR 3.

/sigh

Let's see what they do for me. I really am not missing too many games on steam that I want.

I think buying games is also a form of gaming. How else am I going to explain my pile of shame?

Really, I'm just getting to a point where I understand the "Pile" less. What's the point in accumulating a bunch of a games in a sale if you're not going to have played most of them by the time the next sale rolls around? I would be shocked if anyone here had bought a bunch of games in the Christmas sale and actually played, or even installed, all of them by now.

I have installed everything and played the hell out of all but 2 games. But then ther...CHEAP GAMES CHEAP GAMES CHEAP GAMES CHEAP GAMES CHEAP GAMES

Somewhere there is a low level Goverment employee who monitors financial transactions who is about to get a report about 16 million one time sales in the span of seconds at some site called "steam".

I want really cheap versions of Fallout 3 GOTY and the original Dragon Age. Also, I want a pony.

I'm that guy. I actually installed and played the games acquired from the Christmas sale. I don't really get the concept of the pile - if I won't have time to play a game, I don't buy it. By the same token, I don't go around clocking all the time either. People want to pile games to the sky? More power to them.

tl;dr: Steam sale! Sign me up!

From the look of your tag, you do a fair bit of overclocking.

There is nothing left I want to buy. Or at least that is what I tell myself... then they always hit me with some sucker punch and BAM! Out comes the credit card again.

Clocky's trolling his own Steam thread ... when he hasn't been on Steam in how long? Gotcha!

Tagged for counter-clocking.

I'll be in for some cheap games, can't really spend a lot due to the missus wanting a second vehicle, to which all of my excess money goes to the car fund

I'd love a cheap DA: O complete (like, sub $15). I'm also very much looking forward to that game that is suddenly super cheap and I remember hearing good things about it here when it first came out. My guess is that I'll crumble and buy the other game that I don't think I'll like based on my lack of enjoyment in the genre, mostly because it's cheap and I'm - relatively - easily enabled.

And boy, who saw that indie game that came out of nowhere coming? Wow. It's great!

I want two of those things. One for easy achievements, because it is a pony.

When you spend it on the games, it's suddenly not excess money anymore.

Problem solved.
