New Netflix Format

+1

Agreed, it's atrocious. Heads-up: The best thing to do if you're a browser-based frequent watch-instantly user like I am; open a second browser tab and make sure it keep it on the 'Browse DVDs tab' You can sort of mimic the previous, far-superior iteration of watch instantly in the 'browse DVD' tab, while using the 'Watch Instantly' tab to fire up a title after you've determined you want to watch it. Thankfully, the CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+S streaming rate selection still seems to work in the new, lousy Watch Instantly interface.

Meh, I barely noticed this till you guys raised a ruckus.

I hadn't been to netflix.com recently, so I didn't know about this until seeing this thread. The new UI is indeed much worse.

For Netflix streaming movies/shows, which is all I have on my subscription, I would suggest using FeedFliks. The rating for each movie is plainly displayed, as seen here and here for example. No hovering or clicking needed to see a movie's rating and description, and you can add it to your instant queue or play it from their site. Plus, there are plenty of sorting options, including by rating and by genre.

I use the PC for Netflix so infrequently, it hasn't registered to me at all. And when I do, I am searching for what I want, not browsing. If I am in a browsing mood, I look at instantwatcher.com to see what's on Netflix.

I guess I thought the old one was kid of bad, too. But I access Netflix through my Xbox 90% of the time. And I find our own Hidden Gems of Netflix threadto be the best place to find new content.

But yeah, I guess stars should be added in. I can't see he benefit in taking them out. But I also never really look at the stars. Between my wife and daughter's viewing habits (they are watching a marathon of Make It or Break It right now), the star system for me is completely useless.

I do like the new tag that lets me know there are new episodes up. SGU is now complete. I noticed that on the 360 last night.

I like that too, but they actually added that prior to screwing up the interface.

Is there a workaround for the slow scrolling?

It seems designed more for console/touchscreen interactions, where you can control the speed with the interface. But with your mouse, it's a bit taxing.

I could live with the other changes if there was a gesture or something involved to speed it up.

I thought I would find out, but Netflix.ca on my iPhone is still showing the old site.

Also, why bother retooling the site for handhelds, when there's already at least a Netflix iPhone app? Sure it controls like ass, but why not fix that first?

iPhone isn't the only handheld out there. My android doesn't have a netflix app for it yet. Now that the site is pretty much useless on handhelds, I'm out of luck if I want to browse on my phone.

It's interesting that the Suggestions area is still using the old-style, while the Instant area shows the new-style.

Side-by-side, it's easy to see what you're missing, and what little you've gained, especially in performance.

Yeah, that's what I meant by "there's at least an iPhone app", I didn't know if Netflix had apps for other handhelds. Now with what you said being the case, that makes the site re-design even more nonsensical.

The lower-right of the hover indicates its queue status, letting you add it if it's not already there.
The title in the hover is a link to the movie's page.

The requirement to have accurate mouse control is very problematic. Miss the hover and leave the cursor on another title for too long and suddenly the hover info changes to the other one.

So this is separate from the interface change, but it's an issue I've never had until this most recent update so I have to ask... have any of you ever had issues with audio being out of sync with the video when you watch something on instant streaming?

It only seems to happen with specific things and only on the PS3, but no amount of restarting from the beginning or switching devices and then resuming back on the PS3 ever seems to fix it.

It's happened three times so far during my attempt at running through the entirety of Dr Who, and another time with a movie.

Anybody else? Or just me?

I've seen it before. I don't think there's much you can do about it other than to report it and hope they fix it.

I've had that issue with specific videos for over a year.

I get it occasionally on the Roku, but 99.99% of the times it's fixed by just restarting the movie. The only time it really didn't work was with Cool Hand Luke and then the audio was a good five seconds behind.

It happens to us rarely, but almost consistently once each episode of Coupling lately.

We just back out to the menu (Apple TV) and then resume.

Where's JaMarcus??

Thought I'd rez this thread.

It looks like Netflix is limiting it's categories to about ten selections.

I already felt like Netflix was hiding half it's content. Now I feel like, I'm back to playing search word guessing games.

At least add an option at the end of each category to say "show all documentaries".

Anyone else find this a problem.

I tune through my PS3. Is there an option on line that allows me to change this?

You just got hit with that change now? Man, I've been suffering through the bullsh*t banner arrangement for...man, I bet two years!

When I looked, the solution I found involved "inserting your streaming play disc," so I don't think there's a real fix.
