March 20th - March 25th

Section:

Sometimes, it's difficult to settle upon a single Game of the Week. Either there are no good candidates, or we're left with a couple of completely mediocre games that offer only a passing interest. Other times there are plenty of games to choose from, but nothing of any substance in the release list. Then, there are time like this, where if I were to choose any other game, I'm certain that great rabid and vociferous fan bases would mobilize into shambling, destructive armies to take vengeance upon me. The mania surrounding this game is palpable, and I do not wish to incur wrath, so, obviously, our GOTW is Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. It is, however, worth noting that there are a number of intriguing titles on virtually every system including Metal Gear Acid 2 and Me and My Katamari on the PSP, Metroid Prime: Hunters on the DS, Blazing Angels on the Xbox 360, and The Godfather on PS2 and PC. I hope you've saved some money.

I may just have to bite the bullet and pay full price for Oblivion, that and make my pc weep.

You should have made "CMT Presents: Karaoke Revolution Country" game of the week just to aggravate zeroKFE. :p

I got the call from EB today confirming that I would receive my copy on tuesday. I guess they had a lot of preorders. Anyways I took tues/wed off for oblivion. Tomorrow will be a loooooong day.

Wow... good release list this week. Oblivion, Metroid Prime, Katamari. Well, I choose Oblivion this week, and Metroid will probably be in April, after Kingdom Hearts 2 is done.

I rememeber a few years back when Episode 1 came out (and to a certain extent, episodes 2 & 3), estimates were released as to how much productivity and money would be lost by employers on those days since so many were skipping work. It looks like Oblivion fell under their radar, but I'm starting to believe that productivity will drop sharply this Tuesday and Wednesday.

Now I get to see how long I can hold out before I end up buying Oblivion.

Whoah - a new Suikoden game came out. And Metroid for the DS. And a new Worms game? Poor, poor non-Oblivion games...falling so far under the radar

I love my Athlon 1800XP. I'm not going to buy Oblivion.

My PC would turn green, start choking, keel over, and die if I tried to play this game. I guess I'll spend the next year or so playing Morrowind in hopes that it'll be upgraded enough by then.

Yoyo I am with you in the waiting department, since my order will not come for a while. I am tempted to drive to local EB to place an order though...

I've decided instead of running out and buying Oblivion on the release date... I shall buy Oblivion only and only if I finish G.R.A.W of Hard. <- I just want to see how long that would last... I'll most likely cave in by 3pm on Tuesday!

This is definitely a DS week for me. Oblivion doesn't really interest me that much so I will probably pick up Metroid, Worms and Tetris. Actually, my gf told me that I will get Tetris or my life will be forfeit.

Yeah, that is killing me. I've been agonizing over what to do about this fact for quite a while, but I've come to the conclusion that Suikoden 5 will just have to wait a while. Here's hoping it turns out to be more fun than Suikoden 4 was...

Screw you guys and your Oblivion. I am gonna go with Kao the Kangaroo.

I was at my local EB on friday purchasing a 360 specifically so I could play Oblivion and the guy ahead of me in line was trying to order a copy, the clerk said that they had already sold out of both versions for both the pc and 360. I live in a relatively small college town (which is why I can just casually walk into a store and buy a 360), so I was surprised that the game had already sold out. Lucky for me I ordered it two weeks ago.

I wonder if that blazing angels is going to be any good, the footage made it look like a WW2 version of Crimson Skies which could be pretty cool.

Anybody read anything about Blazing Angels? I can't seem to find much info about it and the official site has more flash animations than planes. If this game has realistic flight controls I'm there. (Shakes fist at Heroes of the Pacific's controls!)

No realistic controls, its an arcade flyer through and through. Theres a bunch of gameplay vids up at gametrailers if you want to see it.

Why is it so hard to include another setting to allow for realistic flight controls in flying games for consoles? I liked the idea of Crimson Skies, but couldn't get into using a seperate stick for roll and pitch. As a long-time flight sim buff (and pilot in training), I can't fly properly with the controls split like that. I understand it's not a true simulator, but at least other console flyers (such as Ace Combat) have the flight controls in the right places.

Why is this game getting so little love from the game "press"? I haven't seen much about it at all.

Gamespot Preview of Blazing Angel's multiplayer modes. Sounds pretty fun, has coop to boot.

My biggest beef is that realistic flight controls for the stick is the easiest control scheme ever. Any deviation from this makes the game harder. "Arcade" generally implies that something has been simplified to make a game easier for the sake of fun. As far as dials, throttle, and other simmish stuff goes I'm okay with arcading that up. But the stick? Why?

EDIT: After watching the gameplay video on Gametrailers.com again I ask why? Why do these people ever make you play Pearl Harbor? It's like forcing you to be a TIE fighter on the Death Star.

Then again, it would be kind of fun to blow up those pesky little X-wings and save the great empire.

Magnus FTW! Okay, I'm done with my internet jargon. I'm picking up Metriod hunters maybe worms (wallet unhappy).

I picked my copy up this morning before class, alas I wont beable to play it until sometime friday due to school and work

I'm not likely to buy any new releases this week.

What I am likely to do is buy PGR3 and DOA4 after I get my 360 on Thursday.

I already bought GRAW.
